I have 12+ years of experience in Financial Planning, Budgeting, Forecasting, Audit and Tax. I have worked with organizations like EY, Citi and Pfizer.

I always wanted to become a paella cook, but my path led me to spend 20 years in finance and tech - eventually becoming a fintech entrepreneur and a frustrated paella aficionado.

I did my time in Investment Banking across NYC, Sao Paulo, Zurich, and London. But I redeemed myself by pivoting to tech, where I launched four fintech products back-to-back.

Today, I’m the co-founder and CEO of Abacum, the leading FP&A automation platform helping finance teams in the mid-market drive efficient growth and deliver business impact.

My partner in crime, Jorge Lluch, and I built the product we wished we had in our previous finance roles. Solving a problem that used to make us bleed in the head has been a dream come true.

Quick facts: I practice Vipassana meditation. Fan of Stoicism, especially Epictetus. I journal daily. Vegetarian.

I enjoy mixed martial arts, surfing, and eating embarrassing amounts of chocolate. Originally from Spain, I’ve lived in India, Brazil, Switzerland, the US, and the UK, and I miss them all.

When I moved to the U.S. to build Abacum, Elisenda and our three kids came with me.

new country. new school. new friends. new everything.

My anchor in life, Elisenda, has taught me that attention is the purest form of love.

last week, we had dozens of team members fly in to work side by side out of our NYC office and the energy was electric.

great teams don't happen by accident. they’re built with intention, high standards, and shared intensity

we spent the week aligning on priorities, challenging each others' assumptions, and building the trust that can only be built in person.

we've been growing the Abacum team fast this year and every new hire has raised the bar. 

I've said it before and I'll say it again, a truly great culture isn’t about perks, it’s about the energy people choose to show up with. 

and this team shows up ready to win.

grateful to be surrounded by people who think deeply, move quickly, and push each other to do their best work.

i’m relieved 996 stopped making headlines.

young founders showing they are young.
investors that once preached “mental health first” now twisting their opinions to fit the tech tribe.

executives forgetting cycles, as if we haven’t been on this side of the pendulum before.

journalists chasing the next cliché.
people bragging about hours in the office instead of customer outcomes.

funny how we forget what’s always been the minimum expectation in other industries. (investment banking is 9/2/6, for instance.)

yes, people work hard when it matters to them. what’s the news?

at Abacum, we’re proud of what we call a culture of intensity.
it’s not about burnout or hours.
it’s about owning what we control, our inputs:
1. high standards
2. extreme urgency
3. 100% effort, always

not saying we got this perfect (we didn’t).
but the whole 9/9/6 debate reminded me how often we all act like little monkeys quite confused about life.

One of the things I value most about building Abacum is the people and communities we get to work alongside. 

Those moments are rare. 

Especially in the city that never sleeps, where there are a hundred events every night but only a handful that turn into real conversations and long-term friendships.

That’s why I’m excited to be teaming up with the FIF Collective on their holiday party in NYC next week.

I met Meghan Curtin McKenna 🔥 earlier this year and I immediately knew she was building something special.

I'm looking forward to reconnecting with familiar faces and meeting a few new ones!

I used to hate onboarding, both as a new hire and as a manager.

it always felt like a box-ticking exercise standing between me and the “real work.”

but when we started Abacum, that changed completely. 

I realized onboarding is the real work.

it’s not about logistics or tools. it’s about building alignment, speed, and culture at scale.

every hour you invest in a new hire during week one saves you 10 later. 
every unclear expectation compounds into frustration and rework. 
every strong foundation compounds into trust and momentum.

when someone joins Abacum, they don’t just learn the product. they learn how we think about customers, about excellence, about intensity.

we go deep on FP&A, our ICP, our mission, but most importantly, how we operate.

because in a fast-scaling company, the culture isn’t what’s written on the wall, it’s what new people learn in their first 30 days.

those first weeks are when people decide if this is just a job or a place they want to do their life’s best work.

I’ve led finance teams through stable years, hyper-growth years, and chaotic years. the chaotic ones taught me the most.

because that’s when your planning breaks.
your assumptions break.
your processes break.

but it’s also when you realize something powerful:

stability isn’t the default, adaptability is.

the best finance leaders today:
→ set direction early
→ create scenario playbooks
→ bring business partners into the process
→ design workflows that bend but don’t break

uncertainty isn’t the enemy.
bad planning is.

Planning season always brings back a specific memory for me.

We’d just closed the year, looked at each other like “this time we’ve got it,” and then…the model that felt airtight in finance completely broke once teams started executing.

Not because anyone was wrong.

Because the company had outgrown the planning system we were using.

I’ve seen that a lot in scaling orgs.

→ When you’re early, planning is about cash and focus.
→ When you’re growing, it’s about predictability and scenarios.
→ When you’re at $100M+ or IPO-prep, it’s about accuracy, accountability, and adoption. 

After talking to multiple finance executives who have seen this journey firsthand, I'm excited to share our new 2026 Finance Guide that consolidates these learnings.

If everything is a KPI, nothing is.

the best finance leaders don’t track 200 metrics, they obsess over the 10 that actually drive performance.

when people ask which metrics to elevate for senior leadership, my answer is simple: What does it take to win in your market?

in practice, the metrics you choose will differ based on your industry, segment, company initiatives. 

if your company’s focused on growth, look at the inputs: GTM capacity, new product launches, and pipeline creation.

if efficiency is the priority, look at cost leverage, margin expansion, and productivity by function.

usually, a business needs to achieve a combination of both.

the goal isn’t to show the full picture it’s to show the right picture. Metrics should map directly to the strategy, the levers being pulled, and the CEO’s top priorities.

finance is at the center of that conversation not as reporters, but as operators.

I had a manager who used to close the books for a Fortune 500 manufacturing company in one day...and this was 20 years ago.

His secret? They built a rock-solid reporting structure before building the budget.

Because if the budget is the goal, reporting is the mechanism that gets you there. And spoiler alert, building that mechanism takes time.

I learned this the hard way. 

I once evaluated performance across 6 business units. It started simple but soon we were knee-deep in 12 countries, 20 departments, and cost allocations no one even remembered approving.

Long story short, it was chaos.

Somehow, we still managed to produce a complex budget...but then came the reporting.

And everything we had ignored came back to life (coding errors, inconsistent formats, data discrepancies, etc). 

So here’s the lesson I wish I had learned sooner: invest in your reporting structure upfront.

Design it so that within two days of month-end, everyone is operating as a cohesive unit and the budget is built on solid ground.

somebody (stellar) on the Abacum team slacked me a quote recently.

she said it reminded her of our culture.
and that I should include it in our next Stoa.
(that’s how we call our All-Hands at Abacum)

and then it hit me

we’re becoming more and more like the company we dream of being.

when a 10x high-performer shares what fuels her to stay at peak performance,
and asks you to pass that fuel to everyone else,
so the whole team keeps raising the bar…

it means we got something right.
