I can help with that.---I studied media and communications specialising in script-writing, where my love for storytelling started. I worked in TV media alongside the London arm of global ad agencies such as StarCom, OMD, PHD Media and many smaller DRTV agencies. My portfolio stretched across global FMCG, (P&amp;G and Unilever) and automotive (Ford and Toyota) brands before moving to Turner Broadcasting (now Warner Bros. Discovery) to work on kids brands (such as Mattel and Hasbro). As the online world began to grow, I moved into Digital Marketing where I helped scale the Manchester office of a Bournemouth based media agency, going from media owner to client side, which consisted of a team of 20+ designers, marketers, copywriters and BDMs.Then after a short sales role at BT, I decided to start my own creative agency, to help start-ups to SMEs with with their communications online.This was almost 16 years ago. I'm proud to say I still run and I own that brand consultancy and design studio in the UK which has focused on serving start-ups to corporations over those years. Tried explaining my work to my dad again yesterday.


Him: "So you write posts on the internet for people?"

Me: "Yeah, basically."

Him: "And they pay you for that?"

Me: "Yes, dad."

Him: "How much?"

Me: "Dad."

Him: "What? I'm just asking."

Me: sighs

Him: "So let me get this straight. You write words. On a screen. And people give you money for it."

Me: "Yes."

Him: "Sounds easier than my job."

Me: "It's not as easy as it sounds."

Him: "You sit at a computer and type. How hard can it be?"

Me: "..."

Me: "I write LinkedIn posts for executives. It influences how people perceive them. It has a direct impact on their business!"

Him: "So you help them write better?"

Me: "I help them not sound boring."

Him: blank stare

Him: "Do they not know how to write?"

Me: "They do. They just don't know how to make it sound like themselves."

Him: "That doesn't make sense."

Me: "I know."

Him: "Your mother still thinks you should've been a doctor."

Me: "I know."


I've made my peace with the fact that not everyone will get what I do.

If you see a post that says "LinkedIn just changed their algorithm" without an actual source, they made it up.

Nobody knows how the LinkedIn algorithm actually works except the people who built it.

And they're not grabbing cuppas with random internet gurus and spilling their secrets.

Stop believing everything you read just because it came with bullet points and a confident tone.

Ask for a source.

If they can't provide one, they're lying.
