Two years ago, I came across a guy named Jesse Itzler and what he shared changed the way I approach my entire year.

He talked about two concepts that stuck with me:

1. The Misogi (Japanese Concept)

Once a year, do something  that is a year defining challenge. It is not about succeeding in it, but more about attempting it.

2. Kevin’s Rule

Try a new hobby or experience every couple of months.
Why? Because most people stop trying new things after their twenties. Life becomes routine.

I made a simple commitment: every 3 months, I’d try one new hobby or experience. It started as a way to shake things up but it’s become so enjoyable.

The rhythm of trying something new each quarter has added adventure, perspective, and a surprising amount of joy to my life.

Charlie Munger, legendary investor and thinker talked about the value of having a multi-disciplinary mindset.

He believed that by pulling ideas from different domains, you make better decisions, solve harder problems, and approach challenges more creatively.

I found trying new hobbies regularly like this embodies that, you learn small things from each new domain that give you a broader understanding of any new thing you do, as you've multiple frames of reference.

Planning these four unique experiences each year has been far more fulfilling than I ever imagined. The only downside? You'll enjoy so many of them, that you will have more hobbies than time.

What’s one new hobby or challenge you’d put on your list for 2026?
