Hey there! I’m Ash Ali, an entrepreneurial spirit who thrives on turning ideas into reality. 

Best known as the first marketing director at Just Eat, I helped scale it to Series A which then went onto become UK’s first tech unicorns.

But my journey didn't start in the usual boardroom. Without a formal degree, I carved my path through sheer grit, instinct, and a knack for seeing opportunities where others see obstacles. 

Today, I leverage my 20 plus years experience to mentor, invest in, and fuel the next generation of startups.

I co-authored "The Unfair Advantage: How You Already Have What It Takes to Succeed" which won Business Book of the Year.

Our book dives into leveraging your unique traits for success — something I live by and encourage others to recognise in themselves.

I'm currently leading Uhubs, a cutting-edge B2B sales performance startup that empowers sales leaders to define and measure excellence in their teams.

Third rotation within Colas Rail, working for Pullman Rail - Specialist in overhauling rolling stock wheel-sets and bogies.
- Managing the Introduction, Production and implementation of new Process Operating Procedures at Pullman Rail. 
- Supporting in the set up of an improved KPI system. 
- Production and process improvements within the Wheelset Overhaul Shop.

April 2014 - Sep 2014 Graduate Reliability Engineer. London/Crewe, UK:
Second Rotation within Colas Rail, Working for High Output Track Renewals Plant division. 
3 months in Crewe with the "Track Relaying System 4"​ (TRS) team followed by 3 months in (Willesden), London with "Ballast Cleaning System 4" (BCS) team.

- Root Cause Analysis on plant failures (RCA)

I hold a Master's degree in Robotics and a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from King's College London, as well as certifications in Project Management and health and safety. 

My core competencies include process improvement, technical project management, infrastructure projects and collaboration. I have a passion for solving challenging problems with simple solutions and building highly motivated and dynamic teams. 

I enjoy expanding my network and gaining new ideas through meeting professionals from different disciplines and backgrounds across the world. 

My mission is to bring engineering projects to life and create value for customers and stakeholders.

Last night’s GeN+1 masterclass reminded me why feedback is such a critical skill, and why so many of us struggle with it.

Whether you’re giving or receiving feedback, there’s often a sense of dread. But one idea really stuck with me:
feedback isn’t about highlighting what went wrong. It’s about enabling improvement and growth.

The event introduced a practical framework that I’ll be applying more intentionally:

Timely – address it when it matters, not weeks later

Specific – focus on observable behaviours, not personality traits

Impact – explain how the behaviour affected the person, team, project, or client

Inclusive – invite their perspective: “Can you help me understand your view?”
Future-focused – what would better look like? Ask them first, then add your thoughts

Commitment – agree on the change and express confidence in their ability to deliver it

What really made this session stand out was the approach.
Two professional actors played out feedback scenarios, with the audience directing them in real time. Watching the same conversation shift from confrontational to constructive brought the principles to life.

A good reminder to end on: effective feedback starts with good intentions.
Be respectful. Be honest. And approach the conversation as a coach, not a critic.
