At a London BNI UK chapter this morning and bumped into these lovely ladies from my previous chapter BNI Commonwealth

BNI Covent Garden Endeavour has one of the best breakfasts around, in my opinion. I mean, who gets to have lobster tails as a breakfast choice???

To anyone reading this post who's curious about BNI, it's the world's largest referral networking organisation.

Personally, I can't tell you how many fabulous businesses I've had the pleasure of meeting or working with. Smart, experienced, savvy and funny all at the same time.

I was #WFH last week and loved it

What I meant was "Working from Holiday", of course! I don't ski any longer, my family does and so when I do tag along, I snowshoe hike in the mountains, explore towns, join in the apres ski 🥂🍻⛷️as you do, and get some calls in and quiet work done in between

Never felt more motivated...

Waking up to this view every morning from my apartment is the icing on the cake too

REACH + ENGAGEMENT ON LINKEDIN HAS DROPPED SUBSTANTIALLY. IS IT WORTH SHOWING UP HERE?

LinkedIn has undergone quite a transformation in 2025.

According to an October 2025 report on the LinkedIn algorithm, I was surprised to learn that Company Articles, that feature that doesn't get much attention, is now experiencing a resurgence on LinkedIn

📊Engagement on articles? 
Gone up by 44.83% since the beginning of 2025

📊Reach on articles? 
Gone up by 47.92% since the beginning of 2025

In my conversations with businesses, I've been advocating LinkedIn articles because they are one of the few places on LinkedIn that can be searchable on Google

That is, if you pay attention to the SEO settings on these articles. 

Now that LinkedIn is really boosting this feature, this is a great time for business leaders to inject their thought leadership and showcase their company expertise there 

So there you go, LinkedIn articles don't just give you visibility on LinkedIn, they allow businesses to become more searchable elsewhere too!

Showcasing your Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trustworthiness is still an important indicator of how well your content is ranked and cited on Google and LLMs

LinkedIn and SEO are intertwined in different ways, and will continue to be so in the foreseable future. If you think SEO is about optimising your website, that may be so in the past, definitely not now.

Nice, you may be thinking, but does it bring home the bacon?

The answer is, well, yes and no

Does the site generate enquiries? Well yes it does consistently and we track these enquiries like a hawk to ensure they're not rubbish

WHAT'S YOUR IDEAL BUSINESS COACH?

I've worked with at least 6 coaches since I got into the agency business in 2016. Sales coaches, business coaches, 90 day coach, even a course-building coach. 

It's been a real minefield and not all have been good investments of time and money

I'd learnt something from each of these coaches. However, in hindsight, I should have approached my choice of coach in a different light. 

What do I mean by that? A certain level of awareness and honesty with oneself and the business is key, and will steer us in the right direction towards the kind of coach we need (not want).

Not doing this at the beginning meant I was more easily swayed by the sales and marketing spiel, and by how I felt at the time. 

Don't get me wrong, there's a great coach in store for each business, we just need to identify the right one for us. 

Each coach has their own unique skillsets, personal and business experience, sector specific knowledge so it pays to do a little homework and "soul searching" before deciding. Here's my list, for starters: 

🤝Be self aware and be honest with myself - what are my strengths, weaknesses, most pressing problems now?

🤝Understanding the stages a business goes through and identifying the stage I'm in helps me decide what's best for the business now

🤝Find out if a coach has experience with the stage of business I'm in i.e. are we a good fit? Some coaches are great for startups/solo founders, some are sector specific, others focus on businesses with large teams. 

🤝Check out the coach's reviews; better still ask for references from that coach. Does the coach's client have similar challenges to mine? What works for others may not work for yours

🤝Is it important for a coach to have sector specific experience? I'd argue if I needed help setting up systems and procedures for the first time, it won't really matter. 

In fact, fresh perspectives from a coach outside your sector can help

🤝Accountability - does the coach really hold you accountable to ensure progress? Or does the coach adopt a hands off approach in practice? I'd go for the former, everytime 

🤝Do you find a coach who share the same values, someone you can be friends with? Tempting if you find someone who ticks all the boxes not just this one, but I don't think this is priority if you're growing a business 

In fact, getting fresh perspectives helps ensure I think outside the box and not be entrenched in an agency "echo chamber"

I hope sharing my experience here will help someone. If you're reading this and have a different experience to mine, I'd love to hear it!

Backend commission-only requests for services from brokers

Have you seen them?

I’ve been getting quite a few of these 

All asking for the same thing:

SEO, email marketing, social media support to generate leads

All good, however…

They don’t want to pay for anything upfront till you generate leads for them

My answer to these requests is always the same

No thanks

The thing is, there is no magic bullet, no quick fix to generate leads with SEO, email or social media marketing.

The problem with these requests is that it usually isn’t a marketing partnership between client and agency. 

The client, in this case, is taking a hands off approach to the work that’s required. The agency bears all the risks, does all the work upfront without being paid. 

When the leads eventually come in but the client doesn't have a robust sales process in place and can't make that sale, where does that leave the agency? 

This is a desperate game with little or no trust in the working relationship

Agree?
