A thought about International Women's Day

Here's to all the women out there juggling family, business and life in general. 

It's hard, and sometimes it feels impossible. But we plod on. Women in general still have a long way to catch up on in the professional and business world

Don't get me wrong, this post isn't a women vs men rant, using IWD as an excuse

Far from it, as my agency business depends on good working relationships with BOTH men AND women. Personally, I thrive better in "mixed" environments and networking events where there is a diverse mix of people and gender. 

The data I've seen tells me that diverse environments usually encourage more balanced conversations, better decision making and less of a propensity for group think or to quote my fav TV series Stranger Things, the "hive mind".

I think we've seen and heard enough of the harm toxic echo chambers of voices on social media tends to encourage. Do you agree? 

Anyway, this year's International Women's Day theme is 'Give To Gain' - reminds me of BNI UK "Givers Gain" mindset, don't you think?

HOW TO NETWORK LIKE AN INTROVERT 😎 

I've been networking in one way or another, since 2016 when I started my agency.

I was totally out of my comfort zone at the time. Bored and terrified at the same time is how I'd describe it!

Bored by the idea of introducing myself over and over again to a bunch of strangers

Terrified because I had no idea how to engage with strangers. Small talk? I won't even go there...🙄😬 

To this day, I'm still learning....

But I'm no longer bored or terrified, as I've learnt a really useful skill.

So what did I learn? Here's my list (not in any order...)

🍷Be strategic with networking - who's there, what to say and why am I going?

🍷Have fun, explore, catch up. It doesn't always have to be about business

🍷If not sure about a networking "club" you've visited, try it a few times before deciding to continue/cut down/stop. 

Seriously, don't waste time with groups you don't vibe with, have an agenda you don't fit into or who don't fit your ideal client profile

🍷It's all about the follow up, if there's interest in a conversation

🍷Use LinkedIn to keep in touch - connect with those you chat with. Or whatever social platform works for you

🍷If you can, speak at events. I call it networking on steriods...

🍷Get to know the host/organiser of the events, obvs

🍷Offer to connect people who can help each other. Few do this, but an introduction can go a long way for someone

🍷I don't do enough of this - to do👆 well, listening and making mental notes helps me follow up and/or connect people 

🍷Keep promises - if you say you'll do something or share info with someone, do it! Talk is cheap, actions really speak louder...

🍷If you network to get new business, measure the ROI you generate over a period of 6-12 months or more. You don't have to just rely on networking, strategically executed Marketing can achieve that too!

Lastly, be positive, open and helpful, don't judge hastily. Be your best, in that room, even if you don't feel like it. 

You never know where or who your next new client, project, job, partner etc will come from!

What Is Searchable (If Public)

Web builders like Wix now builds your new website in seconds

Just like Lovable can, which is great for startups and entrepreneurs who aren't technically inclined and want things done, pronto

But are they reliable though??

In 2025 Wix acquired Base44, a bootstrapped AI startup, roughly 500 days after its inception which is incredible in itself

Now that Wix has AI under its belt, it now claims to not only build websites in minutes, it can create AI-generated content for your socials, web copy PLUS run SEO for you as well

However, Wix AI doesn't do or implement SEO strategy - in the hands of businesses who use it without prior knowledge of SEO, this can do more harm than good

In fact, if we're not careful, Wix AI can quickly unravel the on page SEO work that's been done. That means traffic and online visibility of the website will drop, and with that, the chances of getting mentioned, the number of clicks, sales or enquiries from the website
