I'm Apoorva. Born in Australia, and currently live in Silicon Valley with my wife.

I run Focus Founders, where I help tech founders scale their companies from $500K to $10M+ without burning out.

I had this debate with a friend the other day.

He claims when people come into a big chunk of money, their first thought is:

- fast cars
- bigger house
- designer clothes

I'd go a different route, if I had an extra $100K lying around I'd probably eat more caviar. More caviar and more seafood. 

Life’s too short for boring food.

We helped 5 founders cross $10M in two years.

They all used the same framework: Our 34 recommended systems.

We’ve proven time and time again these systems are essential to jump from 7-figures to 8-figures... But most founders are missing 60-70% of them.

I compiled all 34 systems into one simple audit for you.

There's a trap that most tech founders fall into between $40K and $800K MMR.

I call it the "middle class" of founders.

- Below $40K, you can live well as an “indie hacker.” 
- Above $800K, it gets easier. Better valuations. More profit. Less stress.

When you're in between, it's brutal.

I worked with a founder at $2M/year who couldn't guarantee payroll every single month.

Every month was a reset:

Find a way to hit revenue → Deliver for clients → Put out fires → Start over

How we stopped the cycle:

1. TEAM CONDITIONING
Weekly meetings to reframe reality. When you're that exhausted, your mind sees repetitiveness. We helped the team stay hungry for problems.

2. THINK BIGGER
The biggest problem: Delivery.  We found someone better than her at solving client issues. That hire freed up her mental load.

3. NOT A BILLION DOLLAR COMPANY
We saved hiring a CEO, COO and CFO for later. Right now she really just needs:

- Lower costs
- Fewer people
- Cash coming in consistently

14 months later? $10M.

Read that again. 

This phrase is why I actually enjoy my work AND my life.

I was on a sales call yesterday and could tell the founder had subconsciously capped themselves.

This is common. And why we teach LEVERAGED growth.

Most founders avoid scaling because they know:

More revenue = More headcount, meetings and chaos.

Doesn’t sound very enjoyable.

Leveraged growth looks like building:

Content that ranks and drives leads forever
Systems that automate what used to take 10 people

Growth without the chaos.

I find it comical that I run a company 100% remote. 

Me 15 years ago would be SHOCKED.

I used to scale companies in person. It was my strong suit. I went to as many events and in-person meetings as possible. And it worked!

Then... as the team grew and my California office expense was going up while the profit was going down, I had to majorly pivot.

Let me tell you, closing on zoom did not come naturally. (I can't be alone in this)

I couldn't buy the idea that people could build trust with me through a computer screen. 

Finally my business coach asked: "Why do you think that?"

I didn't have an answer.

I replaced the belief. Started closing at 80%.

I've learned that most sales problems are internal. It's a mindset.

Someone asked me for a book recommendation yesterday. Here’s my short list of MUST reads (business and life):

Hypomanic Edge: Why founders have more energy and production than most people. Removes the shame around being different as a founder.

Relentless by Tim Grover:  For when you need that Michael Jordan - level champion mentality.

Deep Work by Cal Newport:  Focus is everything. This book shows you how to protect it.

The Big Leap: How to get past achievement and find enjoyment. Most founders don't feel like they should feel good. This book challenges that.

Adult Children of Alcoholics and Dysfunctional Families: Almost every founder comes from a dysfunctional family. This book helps you understand those patterns.

The Road Less Stupid by Keith Cunningham: Great for decision-making frameworks.

The Creating Brain: The Neuroscience of Genius: For understanding how creativity and genius actually work.

What would you add?

I started running 5 miles a day... for work. 

I help founders get to $10M. It’s intense. My job requires me to:

- Think clearly
- Help people at a high level
- Constantly be on back to back calls

I found that movement kept me energized and focused.

I started by walking 5 miles a day and that evolved.

Your routine can look different. Your mind/body just needs something.

Here's some ideas (other things I do daily)

- Breath work
- Meditate
- Lifting 
- Bike

Try incorporating just one for 30min daily and see how your work improves.

We doubled our booked calls after I started focusing on me and my team's personal brand.

Prospects already recognize my name. They've read the insights. Trust is built before I send the first message.

If your personal brand:

- gives a glimpse into who YOU are
- adds specific value (insights, lessons, frameworks)

It's going to pre-qualify leads and shorten your sales cycle.

Here's your nudge to put the effort into your personal brand to propel your business.

Last week, I helped a founder navigate a turnaround.

If you’re not deep in the business world, a “turnaround” simply means:
Things aren’t going well and we have to fix the company while it’s still operating.

Revenue might be slowing.
Margins might be shrinking.
Pressure is rising.

But the scariest part of a turnaround is uncertainty.

Specifically, "When are we going to run out of money?"

Here’s how we eliminate that fear: A simple 13-week cash forecast.

It answers the question: "Do we have enough cash to survive the next three months?"

It shows:

- Exactly when money is coming in
- Exactly when money is going out
- How close you are to trouble before you’re actually in it

Without this visibility, founders are guessing... And guessing leads to panic decisions. (Random cost cuts, delayed action, emotional reactions)

When you can see your cash clearly, something powerful happens.

- Fear drops
- Clarity rises
- Decision quality improves

Cash clarity is often the difference between survival and collapse.

The gap between $500K and $10M:

Every business that scales has four foundations locked in.

- Focus
- Growth
- Finance
- Product delivery

GROWTH creates consistent demand → 
PRODUCT DELIVERY turns demand into outcomes people trust → 
FINANCE protects cash flow and decision quality → 
FOCUS keeps the founder and team aimed at the right problems.

You need all four. These foundations stabilize the company and the nervous system behind it.

My whole message is: Scale Happily.

What's wild to me, most founder problems trace back to the FIRST things we sacrifice.

- Time with family
- A real eating routine
- A consistent sleep schedule
- Not trading health for wealth

I was just telling a buddy about one of our fastest growing founders (Jan Rippingale, CEO of BluBanyan) 

She was in the mid-seven figures (growing fast, but drowning).

After a year of working with us, she crossed $830K/month and said she’s never felt CALMER.

Here's what changed.

The Problem:

- Remote, disconnected team
- Growing revenue, bleeding cash
- Jan was drained and unmotivated

1. INSTALLED CASH BUFFERS

I see founders sell their companies for $50K when they could have stuck it out and sold for MILLIONS. 

This is exactly why we mandate all founders in our mastermind to take 7 days off every quarter.

Being a founder is INTENSE. Most want to quit 10-30% of the time.

My advice?

Have those feelings on a beach. Take 7 days off with NO laptop.

When you're on the beach thinking "I want to quit," you realize:

"I'm not even at work. Why am I thinking about this?"

You can assess the thought clearly.

You’ll likely realize you just needed space to: 

- regulate
- process those feelings
- remember why you love what you do and where you’re going.

Be the founder who takes care of themselves. The one who pushes through the trenches and gets to see their business thrive.

Core reason a founder's business succeeds or fails: Storytelling

Strong storytelling skills build trust faster and attract the RIGHT people.

When a founder struggles here, it’s because they don’t know their WHY.

- What core purpose gets them out of bed?
- The reason they started this company.
- The problem they saw in the world.
- The thing that drives more sales.

All other stories in your business branch out from this reasoning.

I’ve seen founders overcome this and scale over nine figures.

These are the wins that matter most to me.

A founder in our community recently closed a $30M deal after doing the internal work we emphasize inside Focused Founders.

But none of it works without mindset alignment.

A tech startup founder just got started with us. He asked how to build a “winning team”. 

Here’s step one. 

At least once a month, you have to look at the entire month and ask:

- How many demos did we run?
- How many sales did we close?
- How many leads did we generate?
- How far were we from what we projected?

Then we have to go BEYOND the numbers.

The REALLY important question: What happened throughout the month?

- Were you going to too many conferences?
- Did you have to fix product stuff?
- Did personal problems come up?

You need to identify what's stopping you. Then take that stuff off your plate.

You don't want excuses stopping your growth.

Founders who make it to $10M+ are often highly creative people. The definition of “creative” in this case is probably NOT what you’re thinking.

The best form of creativity is actually a very functional type of person that follows frameworks and models.

Even the best artists follow frameworks. They learn:

- Composition
- Color theory
- Brush techniques

Business growth is the same. There’s no reason to start from scratch. 

Here's your framework:

- Cold outreach
- Partnerships
- Content
- SEO
- Ads

Then make micro-adjustments based on YOUR market. 

That’s the creativity.

I met a guy in Vancouver years ago.

He was past $1M. Needed to get to $10M.

$10M is actually simple. It's the same formula for everyone:

1. You already have a product that works
2. Position it so the market understands what you do/knows they need it
3. Get in front of as many people as possible
4. Deliver more customer outcomes for less money over time

Here's why this founder was stuck:

He said: "I can't sleep. All I think about is how am I going to do this?"

He was SO stuck in the "how" that he couldn't hear anything I said.

"I gotta figure it out. I gotta figure it out."

Analysis paralysis. Complete mental loop.

I see founders do this often. They overcomplicate it.

"What if I did this funnel?"
"What if I tried that channel?"
"What if I rebuilt the product?"

It's funny, but if you're stuck in this loop, humor usually gets you out.

I asked him: "What's your favorite way to waste time?"

He looked confused. "What?"

"Like, when you're procrastinating. What do you do?"

"I... I don't know. Watch YouTube videos about productivity?"

"So you're watching videos about how to be productive instead of being productive?"

He laughed. First time in our conversation. That laugh broke the pattern.

When founders get too intense about the outcome, they disconnect from reality. They stop seeing what's right in front of them.
