Have you got time for the 1 min story behind the Cyber Defense uprising?

I was always into cyber defense but never really thought about taking my skills to defend businesses.

It was only a passion which I played with.  

Sure I got some of the best training in the world but I just did it from a nerdy love.

One day however that changed forever.

I had a friend called John who had a wonderful business in the graphics industry.  

John was heavy on growing his business and from time to time we joked together about how he wasn't protecting his business from ransomware and one day he might get caught out.

We would sometimes read in the news from about a business paying £120k to get back their protected information, their finance data or the like. 

I started getting more serious about it but John still saw it as a half joke and kept saying he was "going to do something about it in the future"

You know what's coming right?

John got hacked - all his invoicing encrypted with a ransom  for £10k 

His business literally froze for months as he refused to pay it and yet still paid £1000's to get it decrypted with no guarantees. 

The whole situation was exhausting and by the end of it John looked 5 years older.

I felt terrible. 

I had let John down.  I could have prevented this for him. 

I chucked in my day job and started Cyber Defence Unit.  

The Mission: To nudge people past "thinking" about protecting their business.
