Technical SEO Tip: Implement "noindex, follow" to paginated landings
Otherwise, the core page could be considered less important

Is this case, the second page was considered more important than the actual core page for a given collection (Shopify)

Do not think your Shopify comes "SEO ready", quite the contrary, it has default features that are quite bad for organic search (atom files, duplicated landings, etc)

For this client, in the medical industry, we found out that the Page 2 was also the canonical for all subsequent pages 🤦🏻‍♂️  

Not only that, the core page did not exist in the actual pagination buttons, the core page was triggered with a JS feature 🤦🏻‍♂️. The rest of the paginated results were linked with indeed a plain <a> link

How to implement pagination the most effective and simplest way?

In 3 Steps:

- Make sure pagination contains <a href> links
- Use self-referencing canonicals for each subsequent page
- Further paginated pages should NOT be indexable (noindex, follow)

If you implement "noindex, nofollow", each of those pages will be a dead end, a cul-de-sac for crawling and will create a hole in the crawling process lowering the overall quality of your site

The "follow" instruction is saying to bots: "ok, do not index this page but follow the links in it to get out of here"; bots would be like "ok"

Imagine implementing this on a site with over 2500 collection pages with average 25 pages per collection. That means you are doing the right Tech SEO implementation for 60k+ pages at once...

With better crawling and indexing at that scale, you website will boost ranking just by being technically healthy. It has worked like wonders for our latest Shopify cases we are working on.

__ Server Logs: raw data on how AI crawlers (OpenAI’s, Gemini's, etc) interact with your site. Critical signal on what content is important and why - or why not.
Tip: I use Promptwatch crawler report with gives you an overview of the crawling stats per LLM

__ Internal Links: provides a strong architecture overview of your site, easy for crawlers to discover and for users to navigate.

__ Indexing: Google owns the major search engine which is going nowhere and Gemini is growing fast its AI market share. The blue links are fundamental for visibility, therefore indexing.

__ Site speed: good for rankings for UX, for better crawling and for higher conversion rates. Light (fast) websites are fundamental for LLMs and agents.

__ Rendering: The actual conversion of code into a machine-parseable page. Go simple, reduce HTML size, make it semantic, all server-side rendered. Try prerendering.

__ Crawling: The prerequisite for everything else. Larger files than 2MB... You in danger. Easy crawlability is wining it all. You website is cheap and easy to retrieve. Which bot does not want that?

__ User Experience (UX): I take it as part of CRO and it requires often heavy changes on the tech. Better UX = higher dwell time = better rankings. Also do you remember GTP Operator? In the future AI agents will be visiting my websites and they ain't waiting for my 2MB hero banner image to load...

__ Structured Data: this is the best method in the internet to build some sort of common language. Not implementing it does not make sense anymore. AI commerce will heavily relies on it as AI cannot afford hallucinations (prices, names, delivery times, etc).

__ MCP Readiness: The UCP (universal commerce protocol) was a declaration of intentions. Websites won't be needed anymore to connect business and buyers. AI agents could connect directly with your products or services via your own MPC. For now is just Shopify and Google. In the future every business wil have developed their own MCP endpoint for LLMs.

Starting a newsletter: best decision in 2026
Just crossed +6k subscribers

I started in Gumroad, which allowed me to not only collect emails but also hundreds of payments for my digital products

I created documents, templates of videos and people just wanted my stuff

Later I discovered they are known as "lead magnets": post them on my LinkedIn and then people subscribed in exchange of my juicy sheets

LinkedIn started being more and more difficult, reach down, more competition, etc so I figured it was time to actually start sending newsletter value to speak to my audience directly

In January 2026 Patryk Wawok and I decided to go all in, sending 2 newsletters per week. All straight from our first hand experience working on Technical SEO.

9 weeks in our newsletter journey:
- Hand-full qualified leads per month
- 2 Brand sponsorships and 3rd one coming
- Crossed +6k subscribers

We are closing this week the first client coming from the newsletter :)

Things we are working on:
- Setup a better creation system: we still "improvise" the topics
- Improve our opening rate: lead magnets are 2 sided sword
- Find a balance between valuable content and volume
- Start a paid subscription with more exclusive content
- Make our newsletter more easy to consume & enjoy
- Inviting new authors to collaborate

You could rank high on Google and not on Chat GPT
Last week I had a LinkedIn Live with Promptwatch CTO, he told me

"It is possible that LLMs won't cite your content despite you are top 3 on Google, if the your link has hidden content due to JS rendering issues"

There are other instances, for example, sensitive topics (health, money, etc) where Google has a totally different set of incentives (ads) which will leave your commercial website totally out of the scope of LLMs to even citing you

It could also be your content is not covering the full user intent spectrum for AI responses (Tip: Promptwatch gets my content recommendations by reverse engineering the AI crawling data)

In short, Google is not the only battle no more

Technical SEO Tip: You can deindex pages using a Javascript redirect
[SEO Experiment]


It can happen that cloud platforms like Shopify, Webflow, etc do not allow you full control to server features, for example, wildcard redirects

I am working on an eCommerce case where they had thousands of paginated landings that did not exists, there were created fake by another JS issue 🙄 

For example, a given collection had only 12 pages but more than 500 were actually added to the index. 

The worst problem was that those ghost pages were actually ranked better than the core page (!).

The source of the issue was fixed but still we had thousands of paginated landings already indexed.

- Solution A: 410 the ghost pages - not possible on Shopify
- Solution B: Redirect 301 all ghost pages - not possible on Shopify
- Solution C: Add "noindex" tag - too complex to identify the valid pages

With no clear regular solution, I decided to test Javascript redirects.

The script works as follows:
- Waits for the pages to load
- Identifies if page has products listed
- If no products listed > Redirect to core collection

For now, we see that the redirect is being picked by Google crawlers and the pages are being deindexed quite fast!

I will keep monitoring to make sure this works 100% as intended: deindex ghost pages

1 ___ Crawling
Issues we are working on:
- Removing ghost pages (canonicalized)
- Pagination with plain links
- JS rendering optimization

We found many features that work on Javascript, we cannot set them to be server-side rendered so we are improving the rendering timing (pre-rendering or avoiding lazy load)

2 ____ Indexing
- Improve copy per page
- Delete thin pages

We boost pages based on quality rather than on quantity. If intent is covered with one page, we do not need more pages for the same intent. There is not one rule for all, intent vary a lot per content vertical.

3 ____ Site structure
- Serving pages per intent
- Extending long-tail
- Inter linking main content sections

The site structure of your website has semantic value, you build it with internal linking.

For example, if you sell TVs and they are linked to Tennis tables > semantic structure is weak.

We link relevant semantically related content sections so the website itself has semantic value via navigation and internal links.

We have reached a plateau in this project, which means we need to move from technical upgrades to:
- on-page copy: getting more semantic value per page
- conversion rates: getting more customers from traffic

We saw in this very project, the blog articles losing impressions and clicks, while rankings stayed somewhat stable. This is a good sign: value remains just that placements are not in our favor: AI Overviews are eating a lot of visibility, we cannot do much about it.

Just noticed with Promptwatch, that Chat GPT, Gemini, etc; visit this website quite a bit.

LLMs crawlers visits: +5k per day
"human" visitors is 45k per day
The visitors referred by LLMs is in the 50-100 per day

The Google search crawler (Googlebot) also comes +10k times per day but the difference is that it is purely to index the content on a regular schedule

There are 4 major crawling goals:
- For training (AI models "learning")
- For indexing (Google) 
- For citation requests
- For search requests

The 5th one is still getting developed: 
- For taking action

AI agents will be able to:
- book a flight
- buy a book
- purchase a subscription
...

How you can start optimizing for agents?
- Simplify UX
- Server-side render
- Avoid complex user journey
- Speed up your site performance
- Implement perfect structured data

Live crawler stats available in the Promptwatch dashboard. It lets you understand how many times are you being crawled by AI. I am using it to evaluate the crawled/cited ratio and see if my content gets as cited as it gets crawled. Might be a relation between the 2. More of that later.

Them: don't worry about the 2MB limit
Me: 2nd audit with pages above 2MB this month

The 2MB Google limit for file fetching for indexing affects websites more than you think

There is this narrative that it only affects a small percentage of websites but it took me 5 mins, one query and 5 websites to find websites with pages above 3MB

And even if it affects a "small percentage", having a gazilion sites world wide, a small percentage means for sure millions of occurrences

And what if Google reduces fetching to 1MB? 

In any case, the 2MB limit is not the real problem as the indexing issues might happen way below that limit: rendering issues might take away portions of the website regardless of their size

Should you panic? No.
Should you ignore it? No.

Websites get heavier and heavier every decade, taking care of your website assets is just a logical step in your SEO.

What I do:
- Crawl the site with Screaming Frog
- Order pages by size, top down
- Check those above 1.5MB

Usually heavy HTMLs:
- have large data input injected
- massive inline CSS or JS
- is not compressed

I fix as much as I can, reduce technical debt and enjoy better rankings

Advanced Tech SEO Tip: Load 3rd Party Javascripts in a parallel with web workers. I am testing this

Imagine for example, analytics scripts:
They benefit zero to the HTML but they still block rendering, which is bad for UX and indexing

Or even a better (SEO) situation:
Pieces of the HTML rendered by JS (recommended products, product reviews, etc) that enhance the internal linking of the site

All of these funtionalities are essential to any site but they are a blocker for good (SEO) performance

With a web worker you allow all the JS external parties to work in their own room without disturbing other resources (html, images, css, etc). 

That is why I am testing web workers:
I am implementing a new library (Partytown) that will allow parallel loading of 3rd party JS

2 goals:
- faster website loading and improved CWV
- JS-rendered HTML being stored easily by Google

The implementation does not seem to difficult and there are integrations for most frameworks and platforms (Shopify, Magento, etc)

Did you know about this JS hack?

Friendly reminder that site speed matters 
Boring might be, site speed makes money

A fast site means crawlers can retrieve the content easily and users can complete their actions easily

Also, AI crawlers are coming every other second to our website and they are not as advanced as "googlebot"

There is even a chace that your website gets top rankings on Google but your content might be invisible for AI engines: the reason being the actual content to be cited might not be available for the search crawler (it is JS rendered) - I am testing this, more of that soon.

A flat plain text website (markdown) would be the easiest way to deliver content but that won't make users happy, wouldn't it?

My non-negotiables for site speed:

- Light and semantic HTML
- Smooth usability
- Instant rendering
- Light images/assets
- Fast server response
- Clear and semantic structure

Easy to understand, challenging to implement, critical for performance
