Apparently I have my shit together.

I got a lot of replies to my newsletter today after writing about starting therapy in my late 30s. My old CEO Tony Safoian suggested it after a really bad breakup (after a really bad pandemic!) and it changed everything.

The replies came from people who’ve done it, people who haven’t, people who want to but don’t know where to start, and people who just asked: “Why’d you need it when you seem to have it all together?”

I like that people think I have my shit together. That made my week.

Remember: Nobody is coming to save you.

I was on with a founder yesterday who made me repeat this so he could write it down:

"Imagine that every good-fit company you're not talking to is talking to your competitors who have an inferior product to yours and they're going to buy it."

Founders don't love doing demand gen because it often doesn't work.

BUT

It's better to be doing SOMETHING than to be doing NOTHING.

Right?

“Let’s connect and share insights.”
“I enjoy connecting with people about XYZ.”
“Let’s connect and keep up to date on each other’s work.”

All of these are inauthentic because what they’re lying about is: I’M ACTUALLY GOING TO SOLICIT BUSINESS FROM YOU SHORTLY. I have a very low tolerance for BS and I can’t be the only who finds this intolerable.

Here’s exactly what I say to be transparent about what’s coming next:

Hey NAME, seems like you’ve got traction but growth isn’t yet predictable. Been there as a 4x founder and know the grind. I help founders sharpen their own sales method and fix what's broken to get more meetings and close without the burnout. Worth connecting?

Then, I ask a binary question and  I’ve gotten >100 replies on LinkedIn this month, booked 26 meetings, and closed deals.

Do whatever you want, but don’t LIE to get accepted… be bold and honest and be yourself.

Or be part of the trust hellhole that is most social media 🤨

I’ve sent 67 messages on LinkedIn in the last 13 days. I’ve gotten 25 responses as of today and booked 17 meetings, including 4 today.

Anyone who tells you prospecting on LinkedIn is dead is either trying to sell you AI which doesn’t work, or sends dog shit messaging.

This is the way:
✔️Tight ICP.
✔️Pain-first.
✔️Low-friction CTA.
✔️People feel seen. 

This is what a strong foundation does: you understand your prospects’ pain and how to communicate your fix.

Don’t stop trying. Just stop copy pasta from ChatGPT and do the hard work first.
