Two and a half weeks on the road and one of the absolute highlights was our annual Nowruz Dinner with my adopted Persian Family in LA. 

Fort Wayne to Detroit to DC to Detroit to Fort Wayne to Vegas to LA to OC and finally headed back home. 

Travel can wear on you especially when you have time away from spouses and kids so it’s a huge lift when I get time with the other communities I’ve been fortunate enough to make around the country. 

For those who travel on the regular make sure to take some time for yourself to connect with others in a meaningful way.

Are you building your AI framework with a central data repository in mind? John Levonick wrote an incredibly thoughtful and thorough piece (the link to the article is in the comments) around the need for canonical data, which is layman's terms means taking data from all systems and normalizing it. 

Imagine your company stores a customer's phone number in three different places:

The CRM says: (260) 555-1234
The billing system says: 2605551234
The support ticket system says: +1-260-555-1234

All three are the same phone number, just formatted differently. Canonical data is picking one standardized format and declaring it the official version, so everything across your systems looks and behaves consistently.

OpenAI just killed Sora.

I am not here to litigate whether it was the right call. That is their business to run. But here is what I think every mortgage and fintech leader should take from this story.

When you build your AI strategy around a giant consumer platform, you are not a customer. You are a line item. And line items get cut.

That is not a knock on OpenAI specifically. It is just the reality of working with a B2C company that is trying to win the entire world. Their roadmap is not shaped by your needs. It is shaped by investors, press cycles, and whatever fight they are in with Google or Meta that week.

So what happens when you have built a workflow around a feature they decide to sunset? You start over. On their timeline. Not yours.

This is exactly why we built AskBobAI the way we did.

We are not chasing general consumers. We are not pivoting to image generation or text-to-video or whatever the trend is next quarter. We are focused on one industry — mortgage and fintech — and our roadmap is shaped entirely by what the people in that industry actually need.

One of the greatest computer scientists alive — Donald Knuth, the person who literally wrote the foundational textbooks on computer science — spent weeks on a graph theory problem he couldn't solve.

He gave it to Claude. Claude solved it.

Knuth published a paper about it this month. He called it "a dramatic advance in automatic deduction and creative problem solving." His written reaction in the paper?

"Shock! Shock!"

When that guy is shocked by what AI can do… that's a different kind of moment than another chatbot writing your emails faster.

We spend a lot of time talking about AI as a productivity tool. This is a different category. Genuine reasoning at the edge of human knowledge. Problems nobody had solved. Solved.

I don't think we've fully processed what that means yet.
