Marketing & Strategy Consultant - Fractional CMO & Executive

This week, I had the pleasure of hosting a speaker session for Locala in honor of International Women’s Day.

I’ll be honest: preparing for this was a bit of a passion project for me. It gave me the chance to dive back into psychology (my first career) and weave some human behavior frameworks into a conversation about mentorship and allyship in the workplace. Seeing psychological principles drive (or hinder) our support for one another is a fascinating lens to work through.

My goal was to highlight that mentorship is a two-way value exchange; ideally, a mentee brings their own social capital to the table, creating a balanced relationship rather than a one-sided one. Something I have experienced myself being a mentee at first, and a mentor later. 

One thing I definitely took away from the session is that with any virtual format these days, you really have to prioritize ways to bring the audience in, whether through a shared exercise or tools that encourage discussion. 

A huge thank you to Tanya Bellos, SHRM-CP and the DEI team at Locala for the trust and the opportunity to share these ideas. I truly value seeing companies invest in meaningful programming for #IWD.
