Heres my story. 

In February of 2022, I decided to learn data analytics for fun. I created a Tik Tok account, and started documenting my journey to learn this new hobby (@anniesanalytics). 

Very soon, I realized that every day I was waking up and just wanting to write SQL, build visualizations, learn Python.... Work with data! So, I decided that once I finished graduate school (in Healthcare) in July, I was going to become a data analyst. 

Along the way, I have shared here and on Tik Tok everything I can about what it's like to learn data analytics, and how you can do it for free or at least very cheaply. I've shared about the ups and downs of job searching. I've even shared about how I have built a portfolio, and set myself up as a real analyst.

Why have a big profile if you can't use it for fun sometimes? Eveyrbody, Meet Harper! 

Harper is a goofy, loving, playful, and beautiful 1yr 7mo old girl and she is available for adoption with the San Diego Humane Society! (pet ID #977211) 

We are fostering her and spend a lot of our day going "look at Harper!!!!" because she's constantly doing something adorable. 

She's so easy to love. I hope she finds her forever home soon 🫶

U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC)

- Secured $1.8 million over three years in internal basic research funding for two materials discovery projects
- Leading two basic research projects over FY25-27 as the de facto principal investigator: using machine learning approaches including convolutional neural networks and genetic algorithms to design 1) new polymers for shock attenuation, and 2) tougher, ultra-high temperature high-entropy ceramic/boron nitride composites
- Developed and submitted, as PI, a second-round proposal for $0.91 million in internal basic research funding focused on rainbow polymers capable of self-reporting structural health through spectral changes
- Led computational mechanics modeling of PLA/glass nanocomposites, multilayered polymer composites, polyurethane aerogels, gallium-indium liquid metals, and PEEK/PEKK–CNT/boron nitride composites
- Received a recent performance rating of "Level 5 Outstanding", earning both a bonus and a salary increase
- Contributed expertise and language to two second-round proposals worth a total of $1.86 million, and would be part of the computational team if funded
- Contributed my expertise in ReaxFF simulations to the team’s efforts in supercritical water oxidation of PFAS
- Mentored two postdoctoral fellows on using ERDC supercomputers for PFAS and polymer composite simulations
- Communicated research findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders in regular internal meetings and the academic public at national conferences
- Accelerated team research activities through the development of internal Julia and Python code
- Developed activities for and led a two-day STEM outreach program for high school students

Research Chemist

- Authored two internal ERDC basic research pre-proposals for FY25 that both progressed to full proposal 
- Built internal tools with BASH, Julia, R, and Python for improved scientific workflows, including:
    --- A Python class to easily extract and query large datasets from simulation logs. Uses numpy.
    --- Two internal GUI applications using pysimplegui to calculate mechanical properties from
simulation data
    --- An R code to automate the fitting of a series of segmented regressions to stress-strain data
generated via mechanical deformation LAMMPS simulations, accelerating analysis by a factor of 1000.
    --- BASH scripts with command line argument switches to easily specify wall-clock time, queue, number of nodes and cores per node, and simulation input deck, and to submit to the supercomputer queuing system for two simulation codes 
    --- A Julia module using a custom struct for reading and manipulating large-scale molecular topologies (hundreds of thousands of atoms)
- Collaborated with a small team on an internal GitLab-hosted Python module for computational chemistry
- Compiled computational chemistry codes regularly for use on the US Army supercomputers
- Published five first-author papers, three on structure-property relationships of polyamide 6, 
one on adsorption of the urease enzyme in arid soil, and one on structure-property relationships of PLA/PETG with iron and glass nanoparticles 
- Co-authored five published papers with ERDC and Michigan Tech collaborators

ORISE Postdoctoral Fellow in Computational Chemistry

- Created a semi-automated protocol that uses Julia and Python to create new polymer molecules and pre- and post-reaction templates faster and easier
- Extended a Python class for reading and manipulating molecular topologies with new functionality
- Wrote numerous BASH, Julia, and Python scripts to extract data from log files, determine and build molecular topologies, manipulate atomic systems, network analysis, and general data analysis and visualization, among other applications

Senior Scientist I with SIMETRI, Inc.

Contributed to an internal U.S. Army Corps of Engineers ERDC basic research pre-proposal for the 2022 fiscal year that moved on to the full proposal stage of evaluation.
Developed an R code to auto-fit a series of segmented regressions to stress-strain data generated via uniaxial tensile molecular dynamics simulations, significantly speeding up analysis.

Michigan Technological University

- Wrote and co-wrote 12 journal articles that have been cited 158 times, and presented 13 presentations
and posters at various conferences
- Performed collaborative research with 11 universities as part of a $15M NASA program, resulting in 5
peer-reviewed journal articles
- Learned to compile software for and interface with a Linux high-performance computing cluster

My research supervisor was Dr. Wen Zhou, Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering at Michigan Tech. I became familiar with a modified version of an anaerobic digestion model created by Sarah Piccard and the IWA Task Group. I simulated an experimental data set using MATLAB to determine the accuracy of the modified model.

I am a lifelong learner with a passion for solving problems with computers. I use supercomputers to build better materials and to understand why they behave the way they do. Some of the projects I have worked on include designing next-gen polymer composites for deep-space vehicles and force protection, investigating lightweight and eco-friendly substitutes for cement, and optimizing the ballistic response of a multilayered nanomaterial.

I am an expert in computational solid mechanics of polymer composites. I am familiar with density functional theory (DFT), molecular dynamics (MD), micromechanics (MM), and multiscale (MS) simulations. My software packages of choice are GPAW/ASE (DFT), LAMMPS (MD), and MAC/GMC (MM/MS). I am always eager to learn new software. 

I am right at home with any kind of computer system, be it GUI-based or terminal-based. I am skilled in BASH, Julia, MATLAB, Python, and R.  I am an experienced troubleshooter (also known as a professional Googler) of programming bugs, compilation errors, and operating system glitches. I use Git to version control my personal website, my research, and my resumé/CV.
