Led a group of 4 peers over the course of one year in creating a research study exploring the sensory preferences of undergraduate students and their impact on GPA. Our manuscript is currently under review for publication, and in April of 2022 we presented a poster based on our work at the American Occupational Therapy Association's annual conference. 
Mentored a group of 4 students as they completed a research study investigating the normative data about sensory preferences of college students and their relationship with individual mindfulness. This manuscript is currently under review for publication.

Heres my story. 

In February of 2022, I decided to learn data analytics for fun. I created a Tik Tok account, and started documenting my journey to learn this new hobby (@anniesanalytics). 

Very soon, I realized that every day I was waking up and just wanting to write SQL, build visualizations, learn Python.... Work with data! So, I decided that once I finished graduate school (in Healthcare) in July, I was going to become a data analyst. 

Along the way, I have shared here and on Tik Tok everything I can about what it's like to learn data analytics, and how you can do it for free or at least very cheaply. I've shared about the ups and downs of job searching. I've even shared about how I have built a portfolio, and set myself up as a real analyst.

This position and is responsible for the design, build, configuration, deployment, and support of software interfaces and data pipelines across enterprise platforms, proprietary systems, and third-party vendors. This position serves as a technical integration expert for our current enterprise platforms, which include our Microsoft Azure/Power BI environment, Deltek Vantagepoint (ERP), Deltek Vision (CRM), and Ceridian Dayforce (Payroll/Benefits). This role actively works with the enterprise solutions team, product vendors, as well as our BI, Cybersecurity, and Engineering teams, to evaluate integration technologies, design & review solutions, and develop/implement these solutions. In collaboration with cybersecurity and our engineering teams, this role will help to establish an integration strategy & set of integration standards, enabling Dewberry and its clients to have complete trust in our ability to protect and transmit data. Responsibilities include having a natural affinity for data, as well as a solid understanding of data models, data governance, data security and database design. Destination for bulk of data movement is into Microsoft Azure Cloud and working with Azure Synapse Studio.

Senior Solutions Architect

Cone Health

Responsibility for development, maintenance, performance and stability for Enterprise Data Warehouse, Data Marts, databases and file structures. Determine and implement authorization to data elements from database level to schema level working with Active Directory groups. 

Support members of Data Team, Application Team, and Application Support Teams and Clinical teams for any data driven projects, tasks, or maintenance.   

Plan project tasks for technical delivery with Data Engineers and ETL Developers. Lead Daily Stand Ups and Weekly Project Plan Reviews.  Conduct and participate in Sprint Planning, Task Estimation and Sequencing, Sprint Reviews and Retrospectives.

Responsible for both Source Marts, Subject Area Marts, Batch Jobs, Batch Sequencing, and Security for Enterprise Data Warehouse using Health Catalyst suite of tools to implement EDW in SQL Azure Environment on SQL Server 2019. Maintain the 24 hour data loading process to ensure dependent job sequencing and optimization.   Scheduled job balancing, parallelism, and job optimization to insure over 40,000 job steps and 47 billion rows load each week into primary EDW.

In the SQL Server environment, maintain all EDW Active Directory and SQL Server Role authority.  Monthly maintenance reviews for performance include index analysis, review of batch processing to insure correct sequence of jobs being executed, EDW load optimizations and refactoring, and work with Health Catalyst to insure that the Health Catalyst platform is up to current releases in three environments (Development, Test, and Production). 
 
Develop and maintain Best Practices and Standards around Subject Area Mart development which is performed by multiple teams.  Review SAM standards for any new SAM development or changes to existing SAM structures to maintain Best Practices. Work with SAM developers to assist with performance optimization, meeting development patterns, and to establish required security around SAMs.

Data Architect - Lead

While retaining full Data Architect responsibilities, split the role of managing Enterprise Analytics Data Team with one other Data Architect.  During this time added roles included Sprint Planning, Product Backlog grooming and prioritization, task assignment, established daily Stand Up meetings for extended Data Team group, interviewing candidates for three different Data Team positions and hiring two new team members. Establishing work process for recording Data Team assigned work requests into a home grown application for request and task tracking, categorizing work assignments, and working to establish standards and best practices around Subject Area Mart creations to include performance optimization, common techniques, and to help avoid duplication of data subjects in EDW.

Enterprise Analytics Data Team Co-Interim Manager

Working under the Director of Clinical & Business Intelligence, responsible for supporting Enterprise Data Warehouse, Data Marts and existing systems, technologies and environments. Recommendations, development, and implementation of modernization and driving decision making using data driven solutions.  Work directly with stakeholders and team members to define, design and deliver actionable data insights in an Agile Environment. 

Coordination between multiple technical and clinical teams. Design and execute changes to existing data models and create new data models to support enterprise data strategy and analytic needs of the organization.  EDW supports hundreds of visualizations in Power BI, Tableau and Qlik, reports, data extracts,  and make data available to several internal Cone Health teams that use this data for additional data analysis and predictive modeling. 

Work closely with Health Catalyst suite of tools and environments, and implementation of EDW in SQL Server environment of local servers and SQL Azure.  Primary responsibility for EDW platform consisting of scheduling and implementation of Health Catalyst system releases, all testing when SQL Server release or updates are implemented, and coordination of these updates with multiple teams that utilize the EDW.

Data Architect

Senior Database Analyst at Cone Health as a member of the Enterprise Analytics Data and Delivery Services team working with the Cone Health Pharmacy team to consolidate data from many source systems into one database for advanced analytics.

The Pharmacy team is looking to consume Business Intelligence Reporting, Data Analytics, and create Dashboards to display advanced reporting over data from many source systems that has not been easily reported on to date.  Use of data virtualization techniques to consolidate data from the primary Epic/Clarity database, other databases in the Cone Health network, access many 3rd party pharmaceutical vendor databases outside the network, and industry data to create a central database to support this activity. Multiple jobs are scheduled to automate populating data marts and source marts containing this data on a consistent basis.
 
Tools consist of using Microsoft SQL Server as back end database. The Health Catalyst Source Mart and Subject Area Mart (SAM) Designer to ingest a variety of source system data elements into SQL Server subject area databases. Data mapping and transformation to conform data to common attributes. Health Catalyst tool allows the creation of data entities (tables) and bindings (SQL code to do data extraction, transformation, data cleansing). All common column names and data types are utilized so that the data will look and feel like a single data source. Health Catalyst also creates a data dictionary which shows data lineage and maintains data refresh history.   

Data presentation of Source Mart and SAMs  can be either Tableau, Qlikview, Microsoft Power BI, Microsoft Reporting Services (SSRS), Crystal Reports, or Microsoft Excel. Data that is extracted for this Subject Area Mart also allows advanced predictive analytics and machine learning techniques to be performed by our Data Science team.

Senior Database Analyst

Rockwell Collins

• Develop subject area data marts primarily on SQL Server to provide technical assistance and/or full cycle delivery of business intelligence solutions.
• Develop end-to-end Business Intelligence solutions using SSIS/SSRS for complex business requirements
• Complete production support service requests, troubleshooting issues and batch support to ensure high levels of application availability and accuracy.
• Provide regular and periodic maintenance/upgrade of data warehouse SQL server, BI tools like SSIS, SSRS and Tableau.
• Serve as the primary POC for all technical issues related to the Data warehouse solutions/platform. 
• Work with business leaders to develop detailed business requirements, creating functional design, gap analysis, and technical design.
• Working with Supply Chain management on creation of Tableau dashboards and reports used for executive reviews and company performance. Includes ETL and data cleansing from multiple flat file data sources, creation of department level data mart, and guidance on Tableau desktop tool and server administration.
•  Integration for several in house applications developed for B/E Aerospace that now need to retrieve data from either B/E database schemas or Rockwell Collins database schemas from enterprise level data mart based on status of company conversion from B/E Aerospace JDE ERP system to Rockwell Collins SAP.
• Responsible for migration of all Enterprise Business Intelligence jobs in the Tidal Enterprise Scheduler. Refactor jobs to use more variables and system functions.
• Database performance maintenance including index creation and tuning, view creation, all enterprise data mart security, table and index compression, new data mart tables and summary tables.
•  Creation of technical specifications that are delivered to offshore resources to code (SSIS, SSRS, SQL Server Stored Procedures) and answer technical development question and perform code reviews and data integrity checks prior to code implementation.

Architect Data Analytics

Inmar

Working under minimal supervision, the Data Engineer will build and deliver data products software and oversee the associated data movement. The job will entail creating extract jobs for various systems to load into our Hadoop data lake. After the load, the engineer will work with data stewards to create data marts and warehouses that have apply a common set of business rules for dimension and fact conformity. The warehouses will be in Hive while the data marts will be in a combination of databases and in memory data store like Kognitio or PrestoDB or, Elasticsearch.

Tasks Include:
• Working on extract, load and transformation (ELT) of data warehouse using both the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud and local Hortonworks Hadoop infrastructure.
• Python coding to write to Postgres database using SQL Alchemy and Snaql on AWS EC2.
• Learn Inmar usage of AWS infrastructure 
• Creation of Python scripts to generate DDL to create external tables in Hive over S3 data - parquet
• Hive to extract data from S3 csv files to load Hive managed tables in parquet format
• Data validation on staging data of ELT S3 data creating queries using Amazon Athena
• Data quality validation and cardinality analysis using HiveQL against Hive tables
• Creation of Python scripts, bash scripts and hive queries to generate partitions over Hive databases
• Creation of HiveQL scripts to incrementally update or do full replacement of data in Hive database
• Creation of Apache Oozie jobs to execute partition builds and data extracts
• Initial creation and ongoing documentation of project work using Lucid Charts, an online charting tool that allow for an initial overview to be created and drilled into several layers of detail documentation.

Data Engineer

B/E Aerospace

Started on a new Business Intelligence team formed at in 2012. Primary functions are development and maintenance of SQL Server data marts, ETL, SSIS, SSRS and enterprise level BI reporting.  

Established enterprise level SQL Server data mart for legacy JD Edwards (JDE) World system with an IBM back end and new JDE EnterpriseOne ERP system with an Oracle back end to optimize database for reporting and offload reporting processing from OLTP database servers. Started as POC and developed into core enterprise data mart providing single view of ERP data. ETL used combination of Attunity Replicate and SSIS. All performance optimization, index strategy, resource governor settings and security implementation across multiple databases. Total of 10.2 billion rows of data and a total size of 4.5TB with page level compression.

Extensive work on Proof of Concept project for use of Microsoft Power BI as corporate level analytic tool.

Implemented new SQL Server data mart to facilitate financial reporting across all companies for the corporate B/E FP&A group. Coordinate scheduling and execution of over 240 processes a day to keep this financial data mart current.  

Creation of multiple data marts supporting subject areas of business including operational analysis, manufacturing, purchasing, inventory and financial systems. Some of these data marts I have additional responsibility for creating reporting solutions using SSRS. Other data marts front ended with Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) where my primary role is to build data mart and expose data to OBIEE using views and stored procedures.

Performed team scheduling with Tidal Enterprise Scheduler. Over 350 jobs executed daily. Administrator for Attunity Replicate tool for real time data extraction from Oracle to SQL Server databases.

Provide SQL expertise to all levels of technical and business users, assist with SQL Server performance optimizations, security implementation, and technical support.

Architect - Data Analytics

Database lead on several large data conversion projects, web portal projects, new product development and system redesign projects. Extensive SQL Server SSIS and stored procedure creation. Creation of SQL Server data marts extracting data from multiple sources for external client portals and Business Intelligence applications. Significant data movement between iSeries and SQL Server databases.   

Job titles included Senior Database Architect, Technical Architect, Project Leader, and Senior Programmer Analyst. Experience in Data Architecture group, Data Management group, Project Delivery group, and Production Support group.

Experience working in several Inmar lines of business including Supply Chain Network, Reverse Logistics, Recalls, Returns, Promotional Network, Coupon Processing and Settlement, Healthcare Network, and Pharmacy Financial Management. Experience working with many top Fortune 500 manufacturers and retailers data.   

Technical work includes data modeling (ERwin and Rational Data Architect), database design, data conversion, iSeries database and programming, Microsoft SQL Server T-SQL, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS. Acquisition software evaluation and modification for increased performance and  scalability. BI data presentation using ProClarity. Extensive stored procedure experience for both batch processes and for data retrieval for web front ends.       

Supervision, work assignment, management, and technical mentoring of both FTE technical resources and technical consultants, and offshore teams on multiple projects.
