I’m Ankit Kumar, a product-first founder on a mission to reinvent how hiring works for job seekers and recruiters. As the founder and CEO of Hiron AI, I'm leading the creation of an AI-powered hiring ecosystem where candidates don't apply; they get discovered.

I started building products in my 3rd year of BTech. My friends unknowingly took expensive online courses with subpar teaching quality, while competitors offered better value. Seeing a problem in course discovery, I teamed up with friends to create a comparison site for online live courses—like Trivago for courses—during the COVID-19 ed-tech boom.

With no experience, little money, and no connections, we formed a five-person team, built the product from scratch, and launched it in three weeks. Despite our efforts, it didn't succeed because:

1. We didn't fully understand user needs.
2. We lacked a clear vision for the product.
3. We thought building and launching would automatically bring growth.

Learning from this, we did thorough user research and launched a YouTube learning accelerator. YouTube lacks features like an interactive environment and doubt-solving. With online courses becoming pricier and quality content increasing on YouTube, we built an app to address this gap. We attracted over 700 learners, focusing on improving the course completion rate, which ended up at 5%, similar to Udemy's rate.

The main issues were:
1. Lack of incentives for course completion.
2. Students didn’t see the need for our app
3. Our vision for a learning accelerator didn’t show growth.

We pivoted, conducting over 50 student and 5 college interviews. We then built a career exploration platform for students to explore different careers in computer science. We created a trial system for popular careers and included psychometric tests to help students understand their inclinations. Though successful in trials, we couldn’t solve for distribution. We decided to move on and gain more experience.

Things I learned the hard way:

1. Sell before you build
2. Get the first version out quickly
3. Make data-driven decisions
4. Communicate value propositions clearly
5. Build a strong feedback loop
6. Ruthless prioritization declutters
7. A small, passionate team can achieve great results

AWS build accelerator -  We're one of 500+ startups chosen from 2,000 applicants worldwide.

The AWS Build Accelerator program is an intensive 10-week initiative designed to empower founders in making strategic decisions related to their startup's product development. Participants delve into best practices for leveraging the AWS tech stack, covering technical fundamentals such as analytics, data storage, and AI/ML. The program also focuses on guiding founders in strategic decision-making processes regarding product development, including aspects like monetization strategies and engaging beta customers. It offers a transformative experience aimed at equipping participants with the knowledge and skills needed to drive their startup's success.

Wadhwani Foundation

Wadhwani Foundation’s National Entrepreneur Network (NEN) runs a practitioner’s course on entrepreneurship for master’s and graduate students, and professionals.

The students and professionals are encouraged to start a Practice Venture (PV) where they implement what they learn in theory, thus empowering them with real-world entrepreneurship skills through NextGen Activate and Ignite Programs.

As a Project Intern, I collaborated with over 25 student founders, guiding them through the process of creating impactful pitch decks. Additionally, I played a key role in managing the program's day-to-day operations, assisting the program manager in coordinating activities and ensuring seamless execution.

As a Product Manager Intern, I collaborated with the founder to develop new revenue streams for the company. I conducted market research to identify potential areas for expansion and proposed several options. We then executed one of the selected areas, aligning with the founder's strategic focus.

I was involved in the 14-week Idea Accelerator program where we created an edtech product from scratch. Our pitch deck was certified by the esteemed Wadhwani Global jury. Through this program, I gained valuable experience in starting a product from the ground up, including conducting market research, analyzing competition, conducting user interviews, and developing the product. In addition, I chronicled my 14-week journey through my LinkedIn posts.

iHub - AWaDH

I developed a plant disease detection model, UI of a mobile application, and programmed an autonomous drone to follow a predefined co-ordinates.

Finished the project " Design of hopping drones or crop hoppers (Hydrogen / EV based)" under the guidance of Dr. Pushpendra Pal Singh & Dr. Dhiraj K. Mahajan, IIT Ropar (Project Coordinators).
