What a great kickoff to 2026 with an amazing event in Paris 🇫🇷 🇫🇷 🇫🇷 with Founders and Operators from Weglot to support the "Go Global" program!!! We are helping some the leading startups and scale-ups expand internationally and the event was so much fun! 😀 . 

If you are an early stage tech company dreaming of going global, international expansion is possible. However I have watched too many brilliant founders stumble. During the event I had the chance to give some tips on International expansion.

It doesn't matter if you are a European company trying to expand to the US, or you are a US or UK company trying to expand into Europe, the understanding of cultural differences can make or break your success. 
🌍 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞: Your growth hack that worked in San Francisco? It might fall completely flat in Singapore. Your brilliant GTM strategy that worked in London? It might crash and burn in Berlin. Playbooks are best when they are customised.

I just had the chance to read the new 2026 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 by Smartly, and they collected data from over 450 Marketing Leaders to give insights on some of the top trends we will see this year: 

1️⃣ 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐭: 1 in 3 marketers already use AI for predictive modelling and creative validation. They know what will work before spending. This one is a huge leap from the traditional " step by step iteration" into "predictive modelling". 

2️⃣ 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐢𝐧 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐬, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐥𝐬: The customer journey is not linear anymore. It's fluid, unpredictable, and personalised from the very first moment. 92% of marketers agree that AI has fundamentally changed how we think about reaching customers. We will still have our standard funnels however it is no longer about inbound vs outbound or channel X vs Channel Y. It is an "all-bound and all-channel" approach. 

3️⃣ 𝐕𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐨 𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Video and animation are now becoming the connective tissue for engagement and the universal language of modern advertising

Most sales reps aren’t afraid of cold calling.
They’re afraid of what “no” means.


That was me for a long time. 

What helped me most wasn’t a better script or sharper objection handling.
It was changing how I thought about rejection.
 
Here are the 2 mindset shifts that helped me overcome the fear of no:
 
1. I stopped seeing “no” as rejection and started seeing it as context.
 
When you cold call someone, you’re interrupting their workday.
They didn’t expect your call.
They’re busy, under pressure, or mentally somewhere else.
 
Once I really put myself in the prospect’s shoes, things clicked.
 
Most nos mean:
 • “Not now”
 • “No mental space”
 • “No relevance at this moment”
 
They rarely mean:
 • “I don’t like you”
 • “You’re bad at your job” 

That’s the difference between objection vs. rejection and it’s huge.
 
2. I started collecting nos instead of avoiding them.

Every no became a rep.
Every no made the next one easier to hear.

Over time, I stopped reacting emotionally and started listening better.
Ironically, the more comfortable I got with nos, the better my conversations became.
   
Not because I pushed harder, but because I stayed calmer.
 
Cold calling doesn’t just test your messaging.
It tests your relationship with rejection.

Fix that and the job gets a whole lot easier. Huge for personal life as well. 🙂

Hot take:

No-shows aren’t bad luck.
They’re delayed feedback.

This took me way too long to learn as an SDR.

I hated no-shows.

You prep.
You show up.
They don’t.

Then you chase.
Rebook.
Handle objections again.
And quietly wonder if the meeting ever mattered to them.

For a long time, I blamed calendars, timing, or “unreliable prospects”.

But the truth was simpler.

No-shows usually happen for two reasons:

Something genuinely important came up. Fair.
The call wasn’t valuable enough to protect the time.

If it’s #1 fine. Life happens.
If it’s #2 that one’s on me.

Not because I didn’t know my ICP.
Not because I skipped account research.

Those are table stakes.

What I underestimated was communication.

Did I really understand my prospect?
Or did I just wait for my turn to pitch?

I learned this the hard way:
You can book meetings and still run bad calls.

And bad calls often turn into no-shows.

Today, I treat no-shows as feedback.
Uncomfortable, but honest.

My dog.

He’s also a big reason why I value working remotely as much as I do.

I was already working remotely before we got him, but having a dog changed my perspective.

The flexibility to structure my day intentionally, including short play breaks between meetings, has reinforced how effective remote work can be when done right.

Would I return to a full-time office setup?
Only if dogs were welcome.

I won’t repeat the long list of arguments for and against remote work, they’re well documented by now.

What I do believe is this:
Remote work requires discipline, self-organization, and personal accountability.
 
Some people thrive under these conditions. Others don’t. 
That’s not a weakness. It’s self-awareness.

What still stands out to me is how long this shift has been overdue.
Even back in school, it was clear that much of what we do never required a physical office.

Grateful to be building and working in this era.

I end almost every conversation with:
“Thank you for your time.”


And no, it’s not just a polite habit.

Most people say it automatically.
Very few actually understand what it means.

Because time is the one thing we never have enough of.

Not enough hours in the day.
Not enough sleep.
Not enough time to call someone back.
Not enough time for ourselves.

And man, I don’t even have kids... 

An uncomfortable fact:
Time isn’t missing.
Priorities are.

We don’t “find” time.
We assign it.

So when someone gives me 30 minutes of their day,
they’re not doing me a favor
they’re making a decision.

A decision to pause their world.
A decision to listen.

Especially in sales and business,
time is the first yes.

If you waste it, you lose credibility.
If you respect it, you earn permission.

That’s why I say “Thank you for your time.”
And I mean it.

Because attention is currency.
Time is expensive.

The way someone treats your time
tells you everything you need to know.
