Lessons from my first Web Summit: 

1. Comfortable shoes are essential.

The distance between pavilions is significant, and by the end of day one, I had blisters to prove it. Lesson learned.

2. Stay open and curious.

Some of my best conversations happened with people who were ahead of me, behind me, or walking a similar path. Everyone brings a valuable perspective. 

3. Ask for what you want.

My meetup on cycle syncing and productivity happened simply because I asked. It was on the last day, and over 300 people registered. A reminder that opportunities often come from being willing to ask. Thanks Gintarė Karalytė you legend!  

4. Bigger stages don’t necessarily mean bigger impact.

While the main stages were impressive, the specialist tracks, Health, Marketing, Future of Work, offered (to me) the most relevant and applicable insights.

5. Side events and meetups are incredibly valuable.

I met more aligned, interesting people in smaller gatherings than anywhere else. The “in-between moments” often matter most.

6. Plan for recovery.

Large conferences demand a lot physically and mentally. I always schedule a full recharge day afterwards, no meetings, no deadlines, just rest and recalibration.

7. AI innovation is accelerating.

It’s both exciting and sobering to witness how quickly things are evolving. Staying informed is essential.

8. FemTech is gaining momentum.

While investment and research still have a long way to go, the energy, innovation and commitment in women’s health is inspiring. Real shifts are happening. Well done FemTech Portugal and Rhiannon White for kicking off epic conversations!  

9. Accommodation location matters.

If you plan on attending evening meetups or networking events, staying in the city (near the train) is significantly more convenient than staying near the arena.

10. There are still many genuine, generous people.

One of the most encouraging parts of Web Summit was meeting people who genuinely want to help others without expecting something in return. Graeme Barlow and Shawna Tregunna  this is you!  

11. Breakfast events during conferences are tough.

I hosted a morning session on burnout and cycle syncing, and not everyone made it. People are tired, overstimulated, and often overwhelmed, especially by day three. The ladies who made it were epic Samantha Isola Matilde Lerias Yana Basaranovich Polina Lisovski Veena Reddy Endula Christina Kaplan  

12. Supporting others in the “post-conference dip” is meaningful.

We often focus on our own goals at these events, but using what we know to help others integrate, decompress or find clarity can be incredibly impactful.

13. Earplugs are a small but powerful tool.

They reduced the noise and made the experience much more manageable without compromising connection or conversation.

Last week in Lisbon, biftsbo hosted our first From #Burnout to #Flow community meetup during Web Summit a space for #founders, #leaders, #HR professionals and curious humans to talk openly about #productivity, burnout, #nervous system regulation and #hormonal literacy at work.

What started as a simple breakfast idea became a powerful reminder:

people are craving safer, more honest conversations about how we actually work, live and lead.

So… we’re doing it again.
