Most growth strategies don't fail in the market. They fail in the executive suite.

Here's what I see over and over with leadership teams chasing aggressive growth targets:
→ The strategy is clear to the CEO but fuzzy to everyone else.
→ Execs nod in meetings but communicate conflicting priorities to their teams.
→ Culture is "fine" on paper and invisible in practice.

The best time to realize your executive team isn't ready for growth is before growth stalls.

Not all feedback is valid, but all feedback is valuable because it provides us with insight into perceptions. 

A key question I often receive is how to receive feedback, especially when you disagree with it. 

The challenge is that when we get defensive, we create an environment where people are reluctant to share feedback with us, and that is what I find holds leaders back more than anything. 

Everyone in the office knows something about this person that is holding them back in their career, except for the person. Two reasons:
1.  No one told them.
2.  They have received feedback and haven’t done anything about it.

That’s why teach the ARC model for receiving feedback effectively:
🔹 Acknowledge – Listen without reacting, interrupting, or defending. Thank the person for sharing, even if you’re not sure you agree.
🔹 Reflect – Ask questions to understand: “Can you share an example?”, “What impact did you notice?” “What would effective look like instead?” Curiosity over judgment.
🔹 Commit – Decide what you will do with the feedback. You might commit to a specific change, experiment with it, follow up, ask for support or clarification, and take action. Even if the feedback is based on an incorrect assumption, you still need to consistently adjust how you show up so people's perceptions can shift over time.

Leaders who consistently acknowledge, reflect, and commit turn even imperfect feedback into fuel for growth and stronger trust.

No one really talks about this part of executive and senior leadership.  The higher you go, the lonelier it gets.

Research shows that senior leaders are about twice as likely to feel isolated at work as junior employees, and nearly half of CEOs report that loneliness directly hurts their performance.

The part of executive leadership no one talks about.

Leadership development has fundamentally changed.

I remember sitting in leadership courses and listening to someone talk for hours.  Mind-numbing and ineffective, but that is how we used to do it.

It was a fantastic evening at Aviatra Accelerators gala fashion show last night.

Change models are everywhere, but many still treat people as “resources” to be managed rather than as human beings striving to do their best amid uncertainty.  

That’s why I developed the Strengths-Based Leading Change framework.
It’s an 8-step approach that integrates classic models (like Kotter and Prosci’s ADKAR) with what we now know about trust, psychological safety, and the real human experience of change.

At the core are three simple principles:
✅ Confront reality

From there, the 8 steps walk leaders through how to:
1. Diagnose resistance and readiness (before jumping into solutions)

Every generation brings something unique to the workforce. 

Gen X brings perspective.

Born between 1965 and 1980, Gen X is smaller than the Boomers and Millennials. They are about 20% of the U.S. workforce yet hold a significant share of leadership roles (Pew Research Center; BLS).

They are the bridge generation.

They graduated as the internet entered the workplace.
They remember leaders questioning whether the World Wide Web mattered.  

I remember the CEO of a company I worked for said, and I quote, "No one will ever need a website.  That WWW thing is just a fad."

They navigated the dot-com boom and bust, the rise of social media, globalization, remote work, and now AI. That lived experience matters.

The AI era doesn’t just need digital natives.

It needs leaders from every generation who can translate change, balance people and systems, and lead through uncertainty.

Gen X knows transformation is messy because we’ve lived it repeatedly.
This moment isn’t about catching up.

It’s about stepping forward. Gen X leaders are uniquely positioned to:

• Develop the next generation
• Protect culture while accelerating innovation
• Turn disruption into strategy

The best leaders I know don't shrink themselves. 
But they also don't step on others to feel bigger.

I’ve seen talented people dull themselves down in real time.

They stop sharing bold ideas.
They stop asking hard questions.
They start laughing at things they don’t find funny.

They become “easy to work with.”
Translation: smaller.

If your ambition makes someone uneasy, that’s information.
If your standards feel “intense” to them, that’s information.
If your growth disrupts the dynamic, that’s information.

Pay attention to patterns.

The wrong room will call your expansion “ego.”
The wrong peers will label your discipline “obsession.”
The wrong leaders will frame your initiative as “too much.”

And if you’re not careful, you’ll start believing them.

Outgrowing environments is normal.
Outgrowing people is uncomfortable.

But compressing yourself to stay liked?
That’s slow self-betrayal.

Shrinking doesn’t earn respect.
It earns temporary approval from people who were never building what you’re building.

Pressure doesn’t destroy alignment.
It exposes it.

If you constantly feel the need to dilute yourself,
you’re not in the wrong phase.
You’re in the wrong room.

She’s 95 and still doing gymnastics.
Meanwhile in careers, we start acting “late” at 45.

That gap says a lot.

We were handed a timeline:
work → peak → decline → exit

But reality doesn’t follow it.

One in five Americans over 65 is still working.
The fastest-growing workforce is 75+.

Most older professionals report age bias.
Jobs get hundreds of applicants.
And people are still told their window passed.

Not a shortage.
Not a surplus.

We’re measuring long careers with short-career rules.
At some point experience stops carrying you
and you have to make your case again.

Probably more than once.

If you feel that shift, try this:

Look at how you describe yourself.
Is it based on what you’ve done
or what you’re becoming?

Update that first.

We get to choose what we add to someone's day.

A kind response when someone makes a mistake.
Giving credit where it's due.
Simply asking "How are you holding up?" and meaning it.

These small moments are as important as quarterly reports.

In a world that feels increasingly divided, empathy isn't optional.
It's what keeps us connected to our humanity at work.

Choose to make someone feel seen today.

To the younger version of me who apologized before speaking.

Confession: I used to struggle with self-doubt early in my career.

But I had to make my dad proud.

I remember apologizing five times in a single meeting 
before I even made my point.

"Sorry, can I just add something?"
"Sorry, this might be obvious, but…"
"Sorry to interrupt…"

At the same time, I shortened my name.
Muted my wardrobe.
Softened my language.

I thought this was being "strategic."
Professional.
Easy to work with.

It wasn't.
It was self-erasure.
I was slowly editing myself.

The shift didn't happen overnight
but when I stopped apologizing for existing, 
reclaimed my full name, and showed up as myself, things started shifting.

Here's the irony of this moment:
AI can now replicate "professional communication".

Polished. 
Correct. 
Safe.

But it can't replicate you.
Not your lived experience.
Not your cultural perspective.

Not the weight and meaning carried in your name or your voice.
The very things many women were taught to hide are the only things technology can't copy.

We've spent generations teaching women to shrink.
Now we've built tools that can amplify anyone's voice.

And don't get me wrong. I use AI all the time. 
But just know AI is effective if you know how to use it.
Only if you feed the tech YOUR voice, not someone else's template.

Because when we stay silent or invisible

We surrender space 
We surrender our needs 
We surrender our voices.

And when you stop apologizing
reclaim your name, and show up fully?

You lead better.
You sell better.
You get paid for who you really are.

Most leadership misses one simple truth:
Connection isn’t one-size-fits-all.

My 9-year old son’s teacher proves this every morning.
At the classroom door, she gives her students five ways to be greeted:

High-five
Hug
Fist bump
Smile and nod
“Good morning”

That’s it.

No pressure.
No forcing energy.
Just choice.

What matters isn’t the options themselves
it’s what they mean.

👉 You get to decide how you want to be seen today.

Some mornings kids want closeness.
Some mornings they want space.
Some mornings they just want acknowledgment without attention.

And every choice is respected.

That small moment does something powerful:
It gives students agency before the day even starts.

When people are acknowledged in ways that work for them, engagement follows.

They participate more.
They take risks.
They trust.

It made me think about leadership.

How often do we decide for people how connection should look?
How often do we mistake our preference for a universal rule?
The best leaders don’t demand sameness.

They design for difference.
Because confidence doesn’t grow from being managed.
It grows from being met where you are.

Una que abra puertas, venda quién eres y aumente tu ingreso.
Una que te convierta en el experto que citan en medios de prestigio. 

Te estás conformando con lo mínimo porque aún no te sientes
capaz de que puedes lograr mucho más.

Este es el "mapeo" que uso con mis clientes:

1/ Posicionamiento claro:
 ¿A quién ayudas y por qué deberían escucharte?

2/ Historia personal
Tu “About” no es tu CV.
Es tu oportunidad de mostrar quién eres y por qué haces lo que haces.

3/ Prueba visible de impacto: 
clientes, resultados, medios, proyectos. 
Todo cuenta.

4/ Llamado a la acción (CTA) tu mensaje tiene que conectar hasta la última oración.

Si tu perfil no genera entrevistas, alianzas o clientes,
es porque necesitas recalibrar tu marca personal y mensaje.

Y eso tiene arreglo.

Si sientes que tu perfil te mantiene estancado, si recibes rechazo tras rechazo, escríbeme "MARCA" al DM y te explico dónde está el bloqueo.
