In November 2013, Inspired decided to apply significant focus on the online and mobile channels. This had previously been a sideline to the land-based Content development. My role as MD of Interactive meant I have been able to grow a new division from scratch which has involved the recruitment of a new Product and Development team, setting up Inspired in Gibraltar and the financial planning, facilities management, licensing & accreditation that this involved, learning new paradigms in UX design and mobile device nuance, and the building of new commercial relationships with the online divisions of Operators many of whom are based offshore. This role, as the title suggests, is the complete construction and management of a new business, which is now thriving.

The MD of Games in a gaming company is obviously a keystone executive role. During this time I pushed Inspired from a technology company who also dabbled in games, to a significant player in the games markets in which they operate. Content of various categories now forms a huge part of Inspired's P&L and they are considered to be a market leader in the VLT and Virtual Sports channels. The processes, design principles and technologies that I put in place whilst in this role are still being used to great effect by the land-based games teams at Inspired.

This role also meant that I was on the Executive at Inspired and as such, had complete ownership of a multi-million pound P&L, responsibility for strategic and financial planning and was the Exec member responsible for Compliance in all content.

As Software Development Director I brought together the previously disparate functions of game development, platform development and back-end toolset development at Inspired. I was instrumental in empowering the technology teams at Inspired to drive innovation through the business across all facets of software development, rather than allowing the technologists to be entirely market-led. Using my previous game development experience, I instilled a coherence across the 3 main development functions so that the platform, toolsets, and games were produced with proper respect to each other.

As my previous company got bought by Maygay Group, I was made Games Design Director of the new enlarged business and sat on the Board representing the Games Design division. As previously, I was responsible for full P&L planning and governance, management of the circa 60 games development personnel and the design and compliance of the product roadmap for the group.

I started Impulse on the belief that a small elite team could produce the same quantity and quality of AWP games as the large suppliers at the time. This belief was borne out when the company turned over £22m in their 3rd year trading. Although my title was Games Design Director, I was fully responsible for the management of the business and all that this entails: P&L ownership, financial planning, business development strategy, and of course, Games Design. The company ultimately got bought entirely by Maygay Group.

Over the years this experience has included: CTO-style roles encompassing the development of systems, games and hardware designs, Game Design directorships covering all aspects of gaming product design across land-based, online and most recently mobile channels, and MD roles involving all facets of running a successful business - strategy, financial planning and P&L ownership, licensing, compliance and management.
