In 2016, I had a young family and good job working for a great company. On paper everything looked perfect, but inside I felt like something was missing. After some deep reflection and a lot of personal development, I realized that I had been stagnant and the biggest thing missing was growth. 

So I went on a journey of personal reflection, growth, and development as well as exploration to truly own and build a career that I loved. My journey created the framework that became my first book, Own Your Career Own Your Life, which I published in November, 2020 to teach and inspire others to own their careers as well. 

Because while not everyone wants to be an entrepreneur (I love it for some reason), but I do believe that everyone wants to feel happy and fulfilled in their career and everyone can benefit from taking more ownership and being more proactive in building their careers as well as their personal brands. 

That book was a game-changer for me and I've gone on to follow my dreams of becoming a keynote speaker and trainer teaching people to own their careers and prepare for the future as well as build their personal brands to achieve more success. 

Today I speak in organizations around the world to improve engagement, performance, retention, and career mobility. I also love working with leaders to teach them how to support and coach their people to own their careers and achieve more. 

My newest book is called Own Your Brand, Own Your Career (with Mike Kim) and is a bestseller on Amazon.   And I host two popular podcasts:

Every agency founder I talk to is worried AI is coming for their business.

They're right. But not for the reason they think.

AI isn't killing agencies. It's killing average ones.

Here's what's actually happening:

AI just made it trivially easy to produce generic marketing, generic content, generic strategy.

Which means generic is now worth exactly what AI charges for it.

Almost nothing.

The founders who are panicking built their agency on breadth.
"We do it all." "We work with anyone." "We're full service."

That was always a fragile position.

AI just made the fragility visible.

But the founders who deeply specialized before this moment?

They're having a different conversation entirely.

Because AI can replicate output. It cannot replicate:
• 10 years of pattern recognition in one specific niche
• Relationships built on genuine domain authority
• The ability to diagnose a problem the client didn't know they had
• A reputation that makes you the only call worth making

Specialization was always the answer.

AI just made it urgent.

The window to choose is narrowing. Generalists who specialize now will be fine. Generalists who wait are betting the market keeps rewarding average.

It won't.

I didn't predict AI when I wrote Anyone, Not Everyone.

I just understood that the penalty for being forgettable was always going to compound.

AI is the compounding.

I see this all the time with founders…

They hesitate to specialize because they’re afraid of losing opportunity.

If I only work with dentists… what about everyone else?”
“If I niche down… won’t I make less money?”

Actually, the opposite is true.

When you specialize, you grow faster, more profitably.

If you’re still trying to be everything to everyone…

You’re making growth harder than it needs to be.

The most common approach to training a new sales hire at an agency:

"Sit in on my calls for a few weeks. You'll pick it up."

This doesn't work. 
And the reason it doesn't work reveals everything about why founder-dependent sales is so hard to solve.

When a founder runs a sales call, they're making hundreds of micro-decisions they're not even aware of. When to push. When to pull back. When to go deeper on a topic. 
When to skip ahead. How to read silence.

The new hire sees the performance. 
They don't see the decision-making underneath it.

So they mimic the words without understanding the logic. 
They copy the script without learning the choreography.
They follow the playbook without knowing when to deviate.

And close rates drop from 35% to 12%.

Shadowing teaches imitation. 
Systems teach replication. 

Those aren't the same thing.
