Naively starting a business with no experience but buckets of passion is what Entrepreneurs do.

My wife and I started Bounce Foods from scratch in 2004. Paula had an idea from inspiration in New York, and we naively jumped in 'balls and all' into creating an energy ball business. We literally worked all facets of the business out from ground zero, sales, logistics, cash flow, and customer service. We helped establish the 'protein energy ball' market here in Australia. Early wins in health food stores, Juice bars and fitness first eventually gave us a platform to talk to key national grocery accounts. 

The business growth took us to all corners of the planet including the UK, Canada and eventually the US market. Not all decisions were the right ones but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

We were thrown into multiple experiences during the life of the business and with that garnered an array of skills both personally and professionally across all areas. Entering the US market I completely underestimated the two roles I had undertaken. CEO of a new start up, together with raising capital. The US energy bar sector is mature and well established providing lots of competition and ultimately became the reason for us to withdraw and return to Australia.

Our team in Australia remain committed, driven and energised to continue creating value on the back of the brand platform. I'm proud of our the brand, the business and the people that continue to work deliver meaningful outcomes.

Hemp Fields is part of a diverse company that is helping unlock the benefits of cannabis across multiple business divisions. I was specifically engaged to help bring strategy, planning and structure across their business divisions including their growing arms, consumer brands and other strategic partnerships. Young entrepreneurial businesses are frenetic in nature and require a diverse set of skills and a can do attitude. 

Eventually the business required this role to be based in Nth NSW and therefore have moved into an advisory role going forward. 

I'm still very passionate about the space. I'm passionate about the impact on humanity and want to contribute with them to continue making a difference to the world.

I’ve always been drawn to the journey of entrepreneurship, finding creative ways to solve problems and build something meaningful from the ground up. 

One of my proudest achievements was building Bounce Foods from scratch, starting in a small garage and growing it into a $30 million global business spanning three continents. It was a wild ride, filled with high points, lessons in resilience, and the importance of building a strong team and environment where people could truly thrive.

A pivotal part of our success was the team we built and the culture we created together. I’ve always believed in fostering an environment where people can bring their best selves to work, where ideas are valued, and where innovation thrives. Creating that kind of space is as much about listening as it is about leading, and it’s something I’m incredibly proud of.

But business isn’t always an upward climb. After Bounce, I faced significant setbacks and even devastating failures. It was a tough time that forced me to re-evaluate everything. Instead of letting it defeat me, I chose to see it as an opportunity for transformation. This is where my journey into biohacking and mental health really took root.

I turned to practices like intermittent and prolonged fasting, ice baths, meditation, breathwork, and daily exercise. These became the tools that not only helped me rebuild my physical and mental health but also became essential parts of my daily routine. 

Through this process, I discovered that taking care of my body and mind wasn’t just a way to cope, it was a way to thrive. It’s now a core part of my life, helping me approach every day with clarity, energy, and resilience.

I’ve learned that wisdom often comes from embracing both successes and failures. One of my guiding principles is Rule No. 6: “Don’t take yourself too fucking seriously.” It’s a reminder to stay grounded and not let the pressures of business take away the joy of living and creating.

Throughout this journey, I’ve worn many hats and adapted to whatever the business or life needed at the moment. Navigating the ups and downs has honed my problem-solving skills and deepened my understanding of what it takes to build something sustainable. 

I’m passionate about spotting market needs and turning them into opportunities, building brands that resonate with people on a deeper level, and leading teams with integrity, authenticity, and a sense of humour. Ai is on our doorstep at full speed . . . . I'm leaning right in.

If you don’t create space for this, the work will consume every inch you give it.

How often am I laughing, moving, and surrounded by people who lift my energy?

Because that fuels the rest of it, the companies, the ideas, the vision.

Some days, the hardest part of being a founder isn’t the cash flow, the strategy, or the team.

It’s keeping your head above the emotional waterline.

I’ve had seasons where the pressure felt like a silent passenger riding shotgun… persistent and relentless

And if I didn’t stay on top of it, that passenger would drive the car.

What saved me, every time, was getting back to the basics:

• Breathwork - box breathe - in 4 - hold 4 - out 4 - hold 4
• Cold exposure - cold showers work just as well as ice baths
• Walking without my phone - bare feet grounded on the earth
• Eating real food - eliminate refined processed carbohydrates
• Gratitude at the dinner table - blessing my food
• Zooming out and remembering why I'm wired to have a crack at life.

No fancy hacks. No magical motivation. Just the daily habits that bring me home to myself.

The same habits that kept me going through recalls, near-bankruptcy moments, and the $9 figure deals that didn’t land.

From my POV - Mental health is the work.
Everything else sits on top of it.

If you’re building something big, don’t forget to nurture the foundation you’re standing on.

As this was a new Sector, I felt it beneficial to understand how the business operated on the Coalface.
