Sooner or later you're going to have a compliance problem in your insurance agency. 

All agency owners go through it. Some producer goes rogue, cuts corners, and wreaks havoc in your agency.

It's a punch in the gut.

Last week a friend reached out for help dealing with a non-compliant producer.
I've been there, and I know how it feels. It was a horrible experience, but it helped me develop an action plan for these types of situations that can be implemented and executed on swiftly.

This is the action plan I shared:

1. Stop the bleeding - Remove access immediately and terminate employment if appropriate.
2. Audit the policies - Every policy they've ever written needs to be looked at and reviewed.
3. Document everything - Keep a paper trail of everything you find.
4. Develop a new protocol - Put systems/checks in place to prevent from happening again
5. Proactive Communication - Reach out to your carrier reps and the state insurance dept (if necessary) to share what happened + new protocols.
6. Retrain the team on compliance AND culture.

Mistakes happen, and by being proactive and communicative you signal that it WAS a mistake, not something more sinister.

When people cut corners, it always catches up with them.

Sooner or later we all deal with someone in our agency that doesn't do things the right way.

The key is what we do AFTER the problem and how we respond to it.

So take this advice: Have a compliance protocol, document it, and train on it.
