Aspiring Data Scientists. Yes, you do need to learn some math.

There is no getting around that.

It underpins a lot of what we do in the field.

But, don't be scared off by this.

You DO NOT need to spend a year reading dusty textbooks before you're allowed to progress, build things, or land your first role.

Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Start with statistical concepts such as distributions, hypothesis tests, the central limit theorem, confidence intervals, and probability. 

They are the foundations.

From there, start introducing more advanced mathematical concepts, such as Linear Algebra

But, do this as you start applying things like ML algorithms.

It's so much more enjoyable learning while you're testing and modifying things and seeing what changes and why.
