I'm an IT guy turned Entrepreneur who loves the art of building and growing successful businesses.

I started my first business (Skye Technologies) in 2006, grew it organically for 15+ years, then sold it in 2021. 

After that, I began offering business coaching/consulting under the banner 1st Gen Entrepreneurs. As the first person in my family to start a business, I know what it's like to learn everything the hard way. My goal with 1st Gen is to help others in the same situation to build healthy, sustainable businesses without as much headache & heartache.

Most recently, I became the CEO of a new venture called Skye Equipment Rentals. As a proud, independent, locally owned business, we are looking to become the #1 source for contractors in Oldham County and surrounding areas for all their construction equipment needs.

It shocked those who knew me best. I walked away for something I couldn’t even see. 

Sure, I could’ve kept living my childhood dream career. To be that old guy coaching basketball for 40+ years or getting fired trying. But that was no longer the prize. 

After watching my sweetheart battle and beat cancer, the thought of coaching another season, stacking more wins, and working 70 hour weeks didn’t ignite the pilot light anymore. 

It took a surprise ending to discover my unexpected new beginning. 

It emerged after the 2020 chaos. 
I chose to coach people again, just not in a gym.

The river trail was eery and silent those March mornings. 

A week earlier I’d touched down in Vegas for an annual PAC-12 tournament trip with a few friends (all HS basketball coaches). Then the alerts hit: Rudy Gobert tested positive. NBA paused. College tourneys canceled. Less than 24 hours after landing, we flew home.

Schools shut down and I was furious. Nothing like opening a district email titled “Next Steps” and realizing it solved nothing and only multiplied problems. I wasn’t walking away from teaching and coaching just yet, but a fire was burning: I need to find 𝘮𝘺 Next.

With no school, one of my Vegas mates talked me into running with him each morning while he trained for a marathon. “C’mon. Let’s run. Let’s vent.” We'd meet at a midpoint and logged miles for weeks.

Conversations were about the pandemic, students, and our futures. He rifled thoughtful questions at me incessantly until one morning I stopped mid-stride: “Are you my unofficial life coach?”

He smiled. “Well, I’m a ‘Certified High Performance Coach™’.”
“What? How? Huh?”
“You started this. You sent me 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘧𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘰. 2 years ago I decided to skill up.”

A few weeks later, I hired him. 3 sessions in, I blurted out, “Does this happen every time?!”
“Does 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵?”
“The clarity. The insights! 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘮𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨.” He grinned.

Over the next year I kept pinching myself. My miracle exit from my dream career into an encore career as a Certified High Performance Coach™ happened simply because 𝘐 𝘩𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘢 𝘤𝘰𝘢𝘤𝘩.
