I’m running as far away from AI as I can.

Because it's having negative effects on our business.

I used to build AI copilots for all of our clients.

They were trained on their hero story, tone of voice, ICP, offer, and our writing frameworks.

The idea was to use the copilot to give a baseline idea and angle of how the client would respond to a post.

Of course, none of these comment suggestions ever went out untouched and each one go theavily edited by our team.

But even with these precautions every now and then some AI sounding sentence structures would slip through and honestly, I'm not having it.

So we made a decision.

No AI in anything public or client-facing.

If it represents someone’s personal brand, it has to come from a human.

I hate AI sounding text, and so does LinkedIn. (Honestly, read their user agreement)

You can feel it when something is written to sound impressive instead of an actual experience.

If you think you can build a personal brand on automated voice and nobody will notice, think again.

Connection is the whole business model here.

And connection doesn’t come from optimisation and over polished content.

It comes from sounding like yourself.

Building LinkedIn personal brands so you don’t have to

I know it feels like you're too late to LinkedIn.

But you're definitely not.

There are people starting YouTube or TikTok channels now that are going mega viral.

And those platforms have been around (and mainstream) for years. 

So if they aren't dead yet, it's definitely not too late for LinkedIn.

Out of the ~1.3B people on LinkedIn, only about 1% actively create content, so the competition here is extremely low. 

The number of users consuming content keeps growing by about 70M per year and their intent is different to other platforms. 

People come to LinkedIn to learn, find answers, educate themselves, solve personal or professional problems, follow thought leaders, or people they relate to.

So if you start posting and building your personal brand on here today, you are still one of the early people.

And my favourite thing is that you can start monetising your personal brand with a following of only a few hundred people.

If you feel late to the party (the party being LinkedIn), it's probably because you haven't started taking it serious yet.

Start now.

I don’t know how much money I make right now.

And I’ve never been more relaxed.

Since Molly and I started running Sitting Pretty Agency  together, I haven’t sent a single invoice or paid myself a fixed salary.

There’s no monthly number I obsess over.

I thought it was gonna stress me out but instead, I can just focus on what I’m actually good at.

I build the systems behind the agency and client services, check the team does what they’re supposed to, and make sure everything runs smoothly. 

I get more done in less time and with less stress than.

Our clients are happy, seeing results, and sometimes even send us messages saying how grateful they are.

New leads keep coming to us and the team keeps growing.

This kind of growth doesn’t happen when you’re spending your time writing posts, chasing leads, fixing the tech, and taking every sales call yourself.

It happens when you operate in your zone of genius and delegate to let other people do the rest.

If you’re serious about running your coaching business like a CEO, you’ll eventually have to stop acting like an employee.

Your DMs aren't converting

Because you are speaking to strangers who don't trust you.

Most coaches I speak to think if their DMs don't turn into sales, the problem must be with the messages they send.

So they tweak their opener, make it softer, then harder, then funny, then straight to the point.

But this only has very little effect.

The actual reason why their DMs don't convert start much, much earlier.

If someone hasn't seen you talk about their problems, recognise themselves in your posts, or shared their perspective in the comments...

What makes you think they will suddenly be ready to buy in a private message?

That's like proposing on the first date.

There is no trust in the relationship and absolutely no reason to say yes hahaha.

So when one of our clients came to us, saying her DMs were full of "not right nows," we looked at her content before her actual messages.

We changed her content to be more specific, problem aware, and personal.

Within a week, the tone of her DMs changed completely.

People were aware of the problem space, of her as a possible solution, and feeling the pain of inaction already.

Huge difference.

Content created the demand that then led to conversations about the services she provided.

If you're trying to convert strangers who don't see a problem into paying customers, your DMs will feel pushy.

But if you're speaking to people who recognise themselves in your content, the DM feels more like a continuation of a thought they were already having.

That's how social selling works and that's how we do it at Sitting Pretty Agency

Making money on LinkedIn is easy when you can get three things right.

Literal step by step below:

First, you need content that speaks about the problem space you operate in.

How you overcame problems yourself, helped others overcome them, or interesting insights about it.

Mix more technical posts with more personal posts so your audience can build trust with you as a person and learn to know, like, and trust you.

Write each post in a way that makes it easy for your ICP to recognise themselves in it, using storytelling and vocabulary they are familiar with.

Keep it simple.

You'll also need to make sure you get more of the right eyes on your posts, so leaving thoughtful comments that spark thoughts and conversations under other peoples posts is essential.

Comment on a mix of people with audiences relevant to your offer like, influencers with a lot of reach, and smaller creators that are guaranteed to return the favour.

Once someone shows any type of interest in you as a personal brand and service provider, such as:

- liking your post
- liking your comment
- replying to your comment
- commenting under your post
- visiting your profile
- following you
- sending a connection request

You send a personalised and relevant message (not a pitch) to them referencing this signal.

This will start a conversation about the exact problem you know they are interested in (e.g. because they commented under your post) and you don't waste your time messaging people who have no idea what you do.

Fairly quickly you will know if this person is ready to work with you and if so, you've got yourself a new client.

Use the clients success and stories in your content moving forward and the cycle continues.

That was the subject line of an email literally everyone opened. 

Because it broke the pattern of our minds numbed to polished copy like “last chance” and “don’t miss this.”

Your brain knows what that looks like and scrolls straight past it.

But when something feels out of place?

It pauses and wants to check if either you or them messed up. 

Was that an accident?

Did I just see something I wasn’t supposed to?

That’s a pattern interrupt.

And we use the same principle in hooks to grab people’s attention and to make them curious to read more. 

Something that makes the right person stop and think, “wait… what?”

Because if they don’t stop and click on “read more”, the rest of the post doesn’t matter.
