After a short stint in a coordinator position at the College, I'm now leading awesomely creative people on our small but mighty communications team. As the regulatory body for 14,000 RNs in Manitoba, we work to protect the public and our goal is to be as relational as possible: the perfect mix of approachable and professional. While RNs are not our employees, we approach them with an internal audience lens and communicate in a way that promotes engagement.

I provide input at the leadership level and advise our board of directors so we make decisions that take into account all audiences and positively impact our strategic outcomes. Engagement of RNs and members of the public is equally important and we continue to explore new ways to do this. Building our relationship with the media has been a key focus so we can educate the public on our role in a way that is relevant and meaningful.

I am currently developing service standards and expectations so our team can measure and track success. This data will be used to guide our service promise to our internal business partners and identify process gaps. It's a unique way to show tangible value to the work we lead for the College and a system I hope to roll out to other teams after testing it with ours.

Digital tools we use for engagement include video production and a new blog to transition our quarterly print publication to a digital format.

Manager of Communications

A significant focus in this role was an internal review of culture and brand/style across the College. We explored every print and online resource to audit our materials and develop a plan to become more relational as a regulator. We learned that our mandate to protect the public is best advanced when we work together with RNs. We launched a new visual brand and also developed a new internal roadmap for staff to learn more about how to support each other and RNs.

Communications Coordinator

Ronald McDonald House Charities Manitoba

As part of a very small but hard-working team, I developed this role to provide the organization with a staff person solely responsible for fundraising and communications. This means I always had something new on my to do list! I developed and managed all aspects of communications and fundraising strategies and events. I created the Adopt-a-Room program, grew the Home for Dinner program to engage new and existing donors, and engaged volunteers to become ambassadors for our important work. In addition I planned the annual Hope Couture Fashion Gala, which raised $90,000 and the Tournament of Champions (golf tournament) which raised $120,000. I was the media spokesperson and attended numerous third party events to represent the organization and steward donors.

Communications & Development Manager

I will always refer to this role as my first labour of love. I successfully oversaw the opening of Canada's largest Ronald McDonald Family Room program at Children's Hospital (Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg). This process included recruiting over 100 volunteers, hiring part-time weekend staff, working with a project manager to ensure construction schedules moved forward, developing fundraising programs and materials, and liaising with hospital and government staff to build excellent relationships. Once the program launched, I managed the volunteers and staff (scheduling, recruiting, retaining and recognizing) and played a key role in working with families with sick children to do everything we could to provide the comforts of home.

I lead the marketing, partnership, and outreach efforts to grow our platform and reach everyone in our industry who wants to high five, share wisdom, and support each other. 

My educational background includes framed pieces of paper from a few different institutions but more importantly, I've used this knowledge to create meaningful impact for organizations like Ronald McDonald House and Make-A-Wish Foundation, where I managed large-scale projects, advised senior leaders, and enhanced employee and stakeholder relations. I believe strongly in leaning in, giving back, and taking action to build better workplaces and more empathetic leaders.
