Founder and CTO

PubMatic is an Engineering Co. with products and services that cater to clients across the globe. I serve as Senior Director - Engineering since 2017.

I was actually the first employee of PubMatic and over last 12 years, I have developed and scaled many products that has had huge impact on PubMatic’s growth and have increased PubMatic’s revenue to over 100 Million USD. 

One of my core responsibilities includes, leading OpenWrap, Header Bidding and Programmatic teams with revenues contributing significantly to the platform spend, and amounting to millions of dollars.

A total of 20 Engineers operate in the organization and the total size of functional teams ranges between 40 to 45 respectively. 3 Engineering Managers report to me and I report to Senior Vice President.

KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS
► Won "Innovation and Impact", "Star of the quarter" and "Leadership" awards several times in my stint with PubMatic.

Senior Director Of Engineering

As Director-Engineering, my primary responsibility involved leading OpenWrap, Header Bidding and Programmatic teams with revenues of 30%-40% total platform spend, around 100 Million USD.

I worked with 4 teams in total, including, Programmatic, Automated Guaranteed, User Interface, QA teams respectively. I also drove operations involving 30-35 engineers in the organization and indirectly participated in driving 40-45 teams that existed in the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDED BUT WERE NOT LIMITED TO:
► Planning and directing all aspects of engineering activities and projects besides ensuring all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with established policies and objectives.
► Contributing significantly to career and employee growth by hiring new talent, suggesting employee level escalations and promotions, reviewing performances and identifying top-notch talent that would be our long-term assets.
► Setting performance benchmarks, targets and deadlines for the team and project managing schedules and timelines as per available resources and time constraints.
► Incorporating components, materials, and tools that result in cost-effective and quality output thereby managing overall engineering budget and costs as well as creating functional strategies and specific objectives for the organization.
► Coaching, mentoring and initiating continuous learning programs that would drive teams to excel in their given area of jobs and deliver results qualitatively, within the given resources and organizational infrastructure.

Director of Engineering

As Senior Manager-Engineering, I have led the Header Bidding team with revenues up-to few million USD. 

Number of teams I managed include Audience, Brand Control, Wrapper and Header Bidding teams respectively.

Number of engineers in the direct organization included 12 and total size of the functional teams ranged from 20 to 25. 7 Engineers reported to me directly and I reported to Vice President - Engineering.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDED BUT WERE NOT LIMITED TO:
► Leading, managing and mentoring a team of engineers and related personnel to ensure that projects were completed on time as per the specifications and within given timelines.
► Assisting in the recruiting process and developing top engineering talent besides developing standards and procedures to ensure quality standards are met and maintained.
► Project Managing and Product Managing the business from all aspects besides innovating products and improvising on the existing products and services.
► Maintaining and optimizing budgets to meet goals besides collaborating on complete product lifecycle from concept to execution.
► Recommending new technology and ideas to improve efficiency for the organization thereby ensuring effective delivery of services, on-time, every time.
► Recommending improvements and suggesting new policies and procedures for the engineering teams to improve in-turn overall efficiency of the processes.

Senior Manager Engineering

As Manager- Engineering, I reported to Director of Engineering and managed a team of 8 that consisted of Brand Control, Wrapper and Header Bidding teams respectively.

As a Delivery Head, I was responsible for project scheduling, tracking and delivery, roadmap planning, resource allocation, risk identification and mitigation respectively.

As a team manager, I was responsible for defining and tracking KRA's, team building, training, career planning and performance reviews.

I also acted as a solution consultant to help sales team upsells and in customer on-boarding to reduce overall lead time for the conversions.

CORE ACCOMPLISHMENTS INCLUDED: 
► Led multiple product teams and playing dual role of Manager and Architect as and when needed for projects.
► Designed and built a new generation of Unified Optimization Engine which does unified auction across guaranteed and non-guaranteed demand with focus on high availability and scaling.
► Designed and built advanced Data Safety Products.
► Played a pivotal role in extending Brand Protection capabilities for emerging monetization channels such as mobile and video.
► Mentored and managed all groups of new joinees to ensure qualitative delivery of work right from the start.

Manager Engineering

As Team Lead- Engineering, I successfully incubated a new product team named Unified Optimization Engine ( UOE ) for aligning all functions including product development, testing, product support . I also rolled out the first version (MVP) of the product in a record low time.

I was responsible for overall architecture of the Unified Optimization Engine (UOE ) and managed expectations of all stakeholders by ensuring effective upward and downward business communication.

I designed and built next generation of PubMatic ad detection browser plug-in called Ad Inspector and 
acted as 
              ► Delivery head for the projects
              ► Product Architect
              ► People Manager for the team
              ► Solution consultant for the business

On the whole, my job was to form teams and lead them as per business norms and quality requirements.

Team Lead

In this role, I accomplished the following:
► Led the team of developers to deliver Brand Control and Data Safety products.
► Led the research and architectural efforts for developing browser plug-in which became the core of the new product line.
► Was part of the SWAT team responsible for scaling reporting and data infrastructure.
► Got recognition and appreciation for becoming leading and most valuable contributor to PubMatic Labs which focuses on innovation and emerging technologies.

Senior Software Engineer

In this role, I played a vital role in designing and developing product AdFlex which allowed external entities to buy inventory using the PubMatic platform. This product later evolved and became modern day Real Time Bidding (RTB). 

Besides, I was part of the high performing team which was assigned to deliver results under crunched timelines and extreme work pressure.

Real Time Bidding is one of the latest and most acknowledged technological advancements accepted worldwide today by leading Companies.

It was my pleasure and honour to have been one of its key researchers and a part of the founding team.

Software Engineer

In this role, as the first engineer of the company, understood and implemented the alpha version of the automated yield optimization which was first of its kind in the world in year 2007.

I worked 72 hours straight without breaks on multiple days for beta release of PubMatic, which was announced at Techcrunch40 conference in the year 2007.

In this role, I was responsible for quality of UI Toolkit framework which was consumed by multiple product groups. This role involved white-box testing of the Toolkit as well as multiple research and development work that we, as a group of interns had to undertake on a daily basis.

Being my first hands-on experience in a corporate environment, this role set the pace and instilled interest in me to take my career forward as a software engineer.

As someone who has spent years building products for privacy, I’ll be honest: I used to think most privacy issues came down to intention.

“Care more. Document better. Write clearer policies.”

But inside real engineering and marketing workflows, a different picture emerges.

Privacy breaks not because teams don’t care, but because things move fast and visibility is limited.

An engineer ships a feature to unblock a sprint.
