Story time....I've spent the two years: 
- writing a best selling book 
- publishing a weekly newsletter for almost 80k people
- conducting interviews for the Girlboss podcast - Ambition 2.0

In Toxic Grit, I talk about “spin cycles” as intentional seasons where you wring out the heaviness that’s built up....... the pressure, the stimulation, the expectations, the constant output.

It's not quitting.
It's not laziness.

It is maintenance.

A spin cycle is a defined period of time where you reduce your RPM so you can keep going without burning out.

Here’s what my current spin cycle looks like:

1. Lower the creative bar
No “big” new projects. I’m focused on maintenance mode only: my FT CMO role and my weekly newsletter. Everything else is being held until next year. 

2. Shift from output to intake
I’m reading more, listening to conversations, and paying attention to what’s landing with people instead of trying to force new ideas. 

3. Tighten my containers
Shorter work blocks, hard stops in the evenings, more white space on the calendar. The constraint is what gives my brain room to reset. 

(and resisting the urge to use that white space for scrolling)

4. Name what can wait
I have a literal list called “Not right now” for every fun, shiny idea that pops into my head. It goes there, not on my actual plate.

5. Redefine “progress”
During a spin cycle, progress is: rested brain, clear thoughts, regulated nervous system. 

Save this for the next time you feel tapped out and ask yourself:
What would a 2–4 week spin cycle look like for me?

What can I pause, simplify, or say no to so I can actually keep going?

This is the path to sustainable ambition.

The number one complaint from employees I talk to? Lack of context + micromanaging. 

I've been silently working in a full time CMO position since July and I can't wait to share more about it soon. 

But I wanted to share the operating rhythm that I have used for 10+ years to increase context and agency across the functions of marketing. 

EVERY WEEK: 

Monday: Async priorities 

I send out an async email called "managing up monday"
This email does 2 things: 
- everyone replies with their 2 main areas of focus for the week so we know where everyone's brains are at
- allows everyone to update the dashboard with previous week's metrics

Tuesdays: 1:1s and team chat 

All of our weekly meetings happen on the same day to get aligned for the week. Since we already know what people are focused on we can use this time to either remove roadblocks or brainstorm ideas. 

Wednesdays: Hallway chat

Now that we are moving and groovin' for the week we use 1 hour on Wednesday for a "sync'd Slack hour". This mimics the hallway chat where you casually ask for the updates and things you need from someone. 

By doing this in Slack at the same time you ensure everyone gets a prompt answer AND everyone gets line of sight into other things moving forward. 

Thursdays & Fridays are open for deep work and closing out the week.

Toxic Grit isn’t a success just because I worked hard. (I mean, I did work hard but that wouldn't have gotten it to best seller status alone....)

It’s a success because people showed up for me.

Friends who posted the book without me asking.
Podcast hosts who invited me on before they read a single word.
Former coworkers who introduced me to the right editors or hosted events at their companies.
And yes....I had to actually put myself out there and ask for help.

But here's the thing...

Most of the help didn't come from cold networking connections.

These were people I've kept in touch with for years.

People who I have checked in with when I didn’t need anything. I sent voice memos when I saw they were going through something. I celebrated their wins like they were mine.

So when it was finally my turn to ask?

The trust was already there.

A lot of people get networking wrong.

Even the word itself feels transactional. “Be in my network” is just code for: “I’ll contact you when I need something.”

But community?
That’s different.

Community is built when you show up before it’s convenient. It's when you give without tracking what you’re getting back. It's when we remember that humans aren’t LinkedIn headshots...…they’re living, breathing, emotional beings (likely going through their own shit).

I believe it’s more important than ever to have a community of people supporting you through the ups and downs and life yet it’s harder than ever in this current social media landscape.

And to all of those who have been that to me along the way....as I found myself a single mom of 3 kids under the age of 4....as I found myself moving to a new city with no friends or family....or as I shifted careers....

....I'm so thankful for you.

No one builds anything meaningful alone. Not a business. Not a life.
 
People see the growth.
The wins. The momentum.
But what they don’t always see is who’s behind it all.
 
My husband who’s been there since the beginning, who knows when to step in, when to give space, and who still believes in the dream even when I’m tired of talking about it.
 
My executive assistant who somehow manages my chaos with so much grace. Who remembers the calls I forget, preps me for what’s next, and reminds me to eat when I’m running on fumes.
 
My chief of staff who keeps things moving when I want to burn everything down and start fresh. Who doesn’t need the spotlight, but is always five steps ahead.
 
My personal assistant, who quietly makes sure life doesn’t fall apart while I’m in back-to-back calls. She makes sure all our bills are paid, doctors and dentists appointments scheduled, vacations booked and organized to my standards, Christmas gifts purchased timely and that my daughter and us don’t miss her recital.
 
And there is our housekeeper, who keeps our house impeccable, clothes washed and organized, makes sure there is always healthy food at home, nutritious lunch and dinner served daily and coordinates all the house stuff.  
 
This isn’t just a team. This is my nervous system.
And I wish more people talked about this part.
The support. The surrender. The village it takes.
 
Because doing it all alone might look strong from the outside, but it’s not sustainable.
And it’s definitely not the goal.
If you're building something big, get help.
Not because you can't do it alone.
But because you shouldn't have to.

She told me, “I can’t delegate, everything falls apart when I do.”
And I believed her… because I used to be her.

So many of the women I work with say the same thing.
They’re not afraid of hard work.
They’re afraid of what it means if they stop.
If they let go.
If they actually rest.

And let’s be honest, most of us didn’t build our businesses from a place of ease.
We built them from pressure. From survival. From needing to prove something.
That’s why I don’t romanticize women entrepreneurship.
It’s powerful, yes.
But it’s also lonely. Heavy. Exhausting.
Especially when you’re doing it all.

That’s why I built Stafi.
Not just to match women law firm owners with qualified help,
but to be the intervention I wish I had years ago.
Support should not be a reward for burning out.
Delegation isn’t a luxury, it’s a boundary.
It’s a declaration: “I don’t have to carry it all to be worthy of success.”

Her business. Her team. Her kids.
Her life.

That’s what I’m here for.
That’s why I love this work.
Because the truth is, nothing falls apart when women delegate.
Things finally start coming together.

Your people don’t need a bonus. They need a break.
A real one. No Slack pings. No “quick calls.” Just space to breathe.

I’ve been watching it closely lately, not just in myself, but in my team.
When they come back from real time off, they’re different.
Brighter. Sharper. Clearer. More joyful.
Like they’ve remembered who they are.

It’s not just good for them.
It’s good for the business.
That energy? It spreads.
You can feel it in meetings. In client calls. In the way they show up.

And it reminded me: rest isn’t a reward.
It’s part of what makes high performance possible.
But it has to be real.
Not “rest” where we still check emails or secretly move a few tasks forward.
I mean real, disconnected, “go live your life” rest.

And yes, that starts with us as leaders.
If I’m texting people while they’re on PTO, I’m sending the wrong message.
If I don’t take real time off myself, I’m just another example of hustle culture dressed up as ambition.

The truth is: no one can run at 100% all the time.
Trying to do so doesn’t make us strong, it makes us sick.
I’ve been there.
And I won’t lead that way.

So here’s your reminder:
Be the kind of leader who protects rest, incredibly.
Your team deserves it.
And so do you.

Let’s be honest.
Most of us were taught that work comes first.

Emails before breakfast.
Calls during dinner.
Success measured in how much we sacrifice, not how much we live.

And for a while, I played by those rules.
Built the business. Hit the targets.
Kept climbing, kept pushing.
Telling myself: “I’m doing this for my family.”
But I wasn’t with my family.
Not really.
I was there, but I wasn’t present.
And one day, I saw it on my daughter’s face.
The tired eyes. The quiet look of “I wish you’d just look at me instead of your phone.”

That was the moment everything shifted.
Because what’s the point of building an empire if your child feels like they’re in the way of it?
I decided I was done glorifying burnout.
Done worshiping productivity over presence.
Now, I take the vacation.
I shut the laptop.
I hold the hug longer.
I laugh louder.

Because family isn’t a reward you earn after success, it’s the reason for all of it.
I still lead. I still grow.
But never again at the cost of what matters most.
I didn’t leave corporate just to rebuild the same prison.
I left to choose time.
To choose joy.
To choose us.
Work is a chapter.
But family is the whole book.

The person holding your team together is rarely the loudest in the room.
But when they’re gone..
..the cracks appear fast.

Suddenly…
🧠 Projects stall.
💬 Slack turns silent, or hostile.
⏳ Deadlines slip.
💥 Small tensions escalate into full-blown fires.

Why?
Because the glue is gone.
The one who bridged communication between departments.
Who diffused tension before it needed HR.
Who supported others emotionally without being asked, or paid.

This is called glue work.
It isn’t tracked in KPIs.
It doesn’t win awards.
But without it, teams break.

The hard truth?
Glue work disproportionately falls on women.
Especially in industries where “competence” still looks male.
Especially in households where emotional labor is expected, not shared.
The system benefits from this silence.
That’s why it’s time to make this work visible and valuable.
→ Name it.
→ Measure it.
→ Compensate it.

Because the glue isn’t “nice to have.”
It’s a leadership function.
And ignoring it is not just bad culture, it’s operational risk.

Immigration law isn’t supposed to break you.
But if you’re feeling emotionally drained… it’s not just you.

This area of law asks more from your heart than almost any other.
You’re not just fighting legal battles.
You’re fighting for people’s lives.
You’re carrying stories of trauma, separation, fear… while also trying to keep your practice afloat.
And all of it, the backlogs, the policy changes, the emotional load, it adds up.

What I hear from so many immigration attorneys is:
“I love my clients. I love the mission.
But I can’t keep going like this.”

You shouldn’t have to choose between serving your clients well and staying mentally healthy.
Burnout is not a personal failure.
It’s a systems problem, and we can fix systems.

One of the most impactful shifts?
Let go of the idea that you have to do it all alone.
Your energy is too valuable to waste on things that could be delegated, with the right support.

That’s what women are earning for every dollar a man makes. And it’s getting worse.

This is the largest gender pay gap drop in 50+ years.
Not in the 1960s.
In 2025.
And you know what’s being blamed?
Not women being “less capable.”
Not a lack of ambition.
But motherhood.

Remote work rollbacks.
Soaring childcare costs.
The constant need to choose.

Women, especially mothers, are being pushed out of the workforce, or punished with lower pay when they stay.
Why?
Because they’re choosing flexibility. Because they want to be present without losing themselves in the process.

Let me say something clearly: this is not a personal failure.
This is a systemic one.

I was told the same thing growing up:
“You can be successful or have a family. You can’t have both.”
I was raised to believe I had to choose between motherhood and leadership. Between ambition and love. Between success and presence.

And I believed it, until I broke.
Until I realized that breaking rules was part of breaking patterns.

This is why I built Stafi.
So women, especially women who lead, who mother, who carry so much, can get the support they need to thrive without burning out.
If we want to close this gap, we need to stop blaming women for wanting balance, and start fixing the systems that punish them for it.

You don’t have to sacrifice your life to build a legacy.
And you don’t have to choose between being a present mom and a powerful leader.
We deserve both.
And I’m here to prove it.

You don’t need more help.
You need the right help.
There’s a difference.

I’ve seen it too many times:
Brilliant lawyers who finally delegate…
only to end up redoing everything themselves.

Why? Because the person didn’t fit.
Not in skill, in culture fit.
Remote or not, your team needs to move like you.
Same pace. Same tone. Same care. Same values.

If your VA needs constant hand-holding, misreads your emails, or doesn’t get your standards…
that’s not support, that’s stress.
