And now, me. With a camera. At the National Press Club. 

This place is supposed to be serious. Historic. Full of power and poise.

But here I am, trying to figure out which button starts the video. 

I fumble. I laugh. I look like a tourist who snuck in.

But that’s the point.

Getting through tough times never looks perfect. It never feels smooth. It’s awkward. It’s clumsy. It’s you, standing in a room where you feel like you don’t belong, trying to act like you do.

Here’s the truth about uncertain times:

1. Nobody feels ready. 

Not the presidents. Not the press. Not the person holding the phone, hoping it’s recording.

2. Everyone improvises. 

The best speeches in history? Half were probably written on napkins. The rest were made up on the spot.

3. You only look confident in hindsight. 

In the moment, you’re sweating through your shirt, hoping nobody notices your hands shaking.

4. The room never feels fair. 

It’s too big. Too old. Too full of ghosts who did it better. But you show up anyway.

5. The only way out is through. 

You press record. You speak. You stumble. You keep going.

6. Goofiness is survival. 

If you can’t laugh at yourself, you’ll never make it through the hard parts. The world is too heavy for people who take themselves too seriously.

7. Equity is showing up, even when you feel out of place. 

Every president started as a rookie. Every expert was once a beginner. The room belongs to the person who dares to stand in it.

So here’s my advice:

When you’re in a tough spot, act like you belong—even if you don’t feel it. 

Make the video. Give the speech. Be a little goofy. 

History is just a collection of people who kept showing up, even when they felt ridiculous.

And if you ever find yourself at the National Press Club, don’t worry about looking presidential.
