My great aunt died last week. She was 102. 

There's 1 thing that made her live so long:

> It’s that she lived on the same street as her brothers and sisters since she came to Canada decades ago. 

Community is everything and we all say it but this kind of story proves it.

It’s the reason I stopped being a digital nomad.

For 4 years it was awesome getting to rub in my jet-setting life here on Linkedin 

But it was also lonely.

Constantly making new friends, then leaving those friends to make new friends and inevitably losing touch because proximity breeds friendship.

So I moved back to Toronto, where I have the majority of my community

And I’m so glad I did.

I went through some major life changes recently and my community was there for me.

I know that’s vague, but I’m not ready to share yet (but like as big as it gets)

And thankfully I got back up super quickly because they supported me. 

I still hate the winters, and I’m the most pale I’ve been in 4 years which pisses me off

But I feel loved and held. 

And maybe that’ll keep me going until I’m 102 too.

Beaches are cool, but best friends are better.

(But best friends ON a beach is the ultimate)

Last week my great aunt died at 102 and I shared how it was her community that kept her alive for so long.

I've been in sales for 20 years, eventho I was the shyest kid growing up.
 
But sales has changed my life.
 
I wasn't naturally good at it but when I learned the psychology of why people buy, it finally made sense and stopped feeling sleazy.
 
One of my clients was deciding between me and Tony Robbins.
 
He chose me.
 
Another talked to 5 other coaches, reputable ones too, and still chose me.
 
I'm def not better than Tony Robbins.
 
But I made each of them feel more seen, more understood, and more certain that I actually got their specific problem.
 
That's buyer psychology in action.
 
People don't buy the best product.
 
They buy from the person they trust most.
 
Which means sales was never about being loud, pushy, or convincing.
 
It's about being real enough that someone feels safe saying yes.

Ladies, we need to IMMEDIATELY stop saying this:
 
"I don't want to come across as salesy."
 
I hear this every week. And it's always a woman.
 
(I'm a feminist and that's exactly WHY I'm saying this.)
 
I get it too...there's no mainstream example of a woman crushing it in sales without being cutthroat or overly sexualized.
 
So you're not wrong for having this feeling.
 
But it's slowly killing your business.
 
Sales isn't aggressive or manipulative. It's actually deeply caring:
 
You have something that solves a real problem. 
Someone has that problem. 
You help them see you can fix it.
 
The fear of being salesy is really a fear of being seen.
 
Someone is suffering from the exact problem you solve.
 
Your fear is the reason they haven't found you.

It's time to stopping letting that happen.

Growing up in an immigrant family as a shy kid
I was always listening and taking it all in, even if I didn’t understand the language being spoken.

But I could always understand the actions & behaviours.

And there's one etched permanently in my brain:

> Seeing all the women in my family labour over their husbands and families.

I would watch my aunts and grandmother spend hours and hours cooking a feast

While the men sat back relaxing and shooting the sh!t.

When dinner was ready...the men sat at the table and waited to be served by their wives. 

Even though I was young and didn’t know any different, in my bones I knew I hated this.

And I made a decision as a young girl to dream bigger than that for myself. 

That has been my driving force for every decision I have made in my life

Every good grade, every interview, every promotions, every business decision, every leap of faith

I did it because they didn’t get to.

They never expressed being unhappy with the arrangements with their husbands

But I knew they wanted more but couldn’t ask for it.

They wanted more but were afraid. 

Every time I’m afraid to take the scary step

I remind myself of the women in my family

And I take the step for them.

For all the steps they never got to take 

But for building beautiful loving homes that kept us safe.

And fuelled our ability to go forward bravely in a world not built for us

But one in which we’re making it safer to be in for all women.

In a room of 200 female founders, I was the odd woman out because I'm on Linkedin, not Instagram. 

I've never felt more like an outsider...and that I was sitting on a goldmine at the same time.

Every one was anxiously recording b-roll all day, which they would then need to edit for horus to make into a reel later

As I sat there, snapped a couple solo pics and wrote down some ideas for content that I'll whip up in a few minutes on Sunday night. 

Never have I been more happy to be a Linkedin weirdo.

Instagram: 3B  users...40% of them create content daily
Linkedin: 1.2B users...1% of them create content daily

I don't know about you, but I'd much rather compete with 1% of 1B vs 40% of 3B

The math just seems to be mathing for Linkedin.

I started my sales career at 11 years old, selling door-to-door snow removal services.

Starting today, I'll be fasting the next 30 days from sunrise to sunset for the month of Ramadan. Last year was the first time I truly took it seriously and to say it was the most life-changing month of my life wouldn't be an exaggeration. 

I felt the most at peace I ever have, had the best career month I ever have, and felt the most connected I'd ever been to god and the people around me. That's why I'm excited as ever for this one. 

Now a lot of people might think that fasting is just no food and drink all day - but it's really a lot more than that. What many people don’t realize is that the true essence of Ramadan isn’t about deprivation, it’s about detachment. It’s a time to step away from material pursuits and worldly success, and instead reconnect with what truly matters: spirituality, generosity to those in need, and deepening your relationship with God.

It's a time for slowness, silence and stillness. For reflection and remembrance. 

The whole point of fasting is so that you quiet the mind. When you're not thinking about your next meal all the time, you have more space to truly go within. To truly let go and let god. 

This year my focus is on spending less time on my phone and more time reading. Less time filling the white space in those little pockets throughout the day and instead stepping back and giving myself the opportunity to embrace the silence of the moment. 

This is going to be a good one. Ramadan Mubarak to all my brothers and sisters.

So many sellers are worried about getting left behind in the age of AI.

I'm worried that we are slowly losing the things that make us human.

The soft skills like:

• Active listening
• Creative thinking
• Emotional intelligence
• Empathy, kindness and curiosity
• Eye contact, body language, and the ability to "read the room"

These skills are become more rare day by day. 

We want our answers so quickly. We want to get through the checklist so fast. Speed through our tasks. Automate as much as possible. 

We want to qualify, uncover pain, ask everything that MEDPICC or Sandler or [insert sales methodology tells us to ask] determine next steps and that's all great and all and it's important for sellers.

But whatever happened to just having an open conversation?

One that wasn't predicated on a methodology but on natural curiosity, a desire to serve, and an attitude of true mutual benefit? 

In my experience, this is where the magic happens in sales^. Not in the super polished discovery calls but in the most human ones. 

I don't see these "soft skills" as nice to haves anymore. In the coming decade, these will be essential especially for sellers.

If companies want to truly enable their sellers to sell better they shouldn't start with a methodology or AI tool training.

They should start with the human skills, the ones that actually close deals once all is said and done.

The ability to run, jump and lift

I'm starting to believe that a rich life is just the sum of all these little things. Is it just me that feels that way?

Research suggests that 75%-90% of all doctor visits are prompted by issues caused or exacerbated by stress. The majority of that stress is work-related. 

I'm not surprised. I've faced a myriad of health issues in my endless pursuit of achievement. To be honest there were days where I've felt like I was one bad day away from a heart attack.

If you're a chronic high-achiever like me than you probably know what I'm talking about.

So what do you do, quit your job? Become a monk? Live in the woods?

While that can be tempting it's not realistic nor desired for most people. Instead, you want to focus on redefining your relationship with stress and increase your capacity to deal with it when it comes up. 

Here are 3 specific things I did to improve my relationship with stress.

1) Breathwork

It's magical what's possible with the simple power of your breath. You can go from feeling like the world is about to end to feeling like nothing can stop you within a matter of minutes. This really helped me slow down and tune into what was actually going on inside my mind, body and soul. 

Shoutout to my breathwork coach Kindra Fox 🦋 for starting me on this journey. Now it's a regular practice.

2) Surrender

This one's a hard one to wrap your head around but works wonders when you embrace it. This is a concept wherby you relinquish the idea that you can control the world around you. This was particularly difficult for me to accept given that as an achiever, I grew up feeling like I had to bend the universe to my will in order to "make things happen". 

In reality I experienced the best results in my life and career once I embraced surrender ie. letting go of expectations and attachments to outcomes. My focus on a day to day basis shifted from "what I was doing" to "who I was being".

3) Turn down the volume

The world is too damn loud, now more than ever. Everywhere you look it's doom and gloom. On top of that, it's so easy to get distracted during a time where cheap dopamine is readily available to everyone at anytime with social media/porn/news etc. 

I started saying no more. Got tired of not being able to hear my own voice. Not giving myself space to sit with my feelings. I missed the days where I used to get lost in my thoughts.

By  routinely disconnecting (ie. deleting apps, social media, etc), taking more regular vacations (check out Douro valley below) and unplugging (music, self-help videos, and the like) I gave myself more time to sit with myself.

That time invited silence, stillness and slowness into my life which has helped me better navigate my stress when it comes up instead of suppressing it with digital escapism.

If you struggle with stress, don't try to do all of these 3 things at once. Commit to one. 

I promise you, your life will transform.

The people you look up to are not necessarily smarter than you, better than you or even more talented. They just have an almost delusional level of self-belief and an uncomfortable capacity to fail over and over and get back up again every single time. 

As Bruce Lee once said "do not pray for an easy life. pray for the strength to endure a difficult one". 

Embrace risk. Embrace failure. Embrace yourself and everything you know you're capable of. 

That's where all the gold is ladies and gentleman. 

Society rewards those who take big swings.

I took my close rate from 27% to 60% with one simple tweak.

It had nothing to do with my sales skills. It had everything to do with my attitude.

Every seller wants to crush it, but sometimes that desire to  "succeed" shows up as a needy intention to sell.

And in my experience, the harder I've tried to sell - the less I've actually sold. It's a funny little paradox in sales. 

A good analogy is one I got from my boxing coach. He noticed that while my mechanics were correct, I was "too tense". 

So I focused on relaxing my muscles more. 

Almost immediately:

• My strikes were faster  
• My movement flowed  
• My power increased

It's the same thing in sales. When you cling to the outcome: 

• You rush
• You push and pressure
• You overtalk and monologue

My experience has taught me that there is no nervous when you're in service. When you're truly detached, abundant, grateful and caring...selling stops feeling forced. 

You listen intently. You respond thoughtfully. You speak with confidence, conviction and clarity. 

Everything changed for me once I started priortizing something we call an "outward mindset" at UYSP. This included embracing my self-worth, implementing a regular gratitude practice, and regulating my nervous system among other things.

It's been a journey worth an entire set of posts on its own but if there's anything you can take away from this it's that true sales success is on the other side of detachment. The journey will have you transforming into a version of yourself that you might not even believe is possible.

The "Liking Principle" states that people are more likely to say yes to and be influenced by individuals they find likeable." Which begs the question...how can you become more likeable???

This is based on research that Dr. Robert Cialdini found while writing his book "Influence". According to him, there are 4 distinct ways for you to increase "likeability". 

1. Physical Attractiveness

Yes, this matters. Physical attractiveness can enhance likeability and it's often associated with positive traits like kindness and intelligence. This doesn't mean you need to be born with model-like genetics, it just means you should put effort into how you look and present yourself at work and in front of your prospects.

I used to show up to work in a t-shirt and sweatpants as an SDR. No matter how good you might be at sales, that won't fly in front of customers.

2. Similarity Principle

Find common ground with your prospects. People are drawn to those who share similar non-physical traits, such as personality, background, or lifestyle.

Do research and ask questions to uncover if you can establish a sense of relatability with your prospects. This is especially important when speaking with executives.

3. Power of Compliments

Giving authentic compliments can increase likeability, as people tend to view praise as genuine.

You don't need to overdo this, otherwise it won't seem genuine.

4. Contact and Cooperation

Repeated contact and working towards common goals can boost likeability, especially in collaborative environments.

That doesn't mean you should annoy your prospects. It means you should identify a common problem that you both are trying to solve and be swift with follow up and information that will help to solve the problem.

A lot of this comes down to just being an authentic, empathetic and genuine human being. Do more of that and success will come as a bi-product.

A big focus of mine in 2026 is to create more and consume less. But I can't lie, I haven't been very good at sticking to that so far. It feels like there is so much happening at once right now and that if I tune out for a second, I'll be behind.

But of course, that's not true. This is how it's always been. 

The headlines are designed to keep your eyes glued to the screen. There is never any end to the long list of tools, tips and tricks. The longer you keep the news and social media in your focus, the more inadequate you tend to feel.

Well enough is enough. I'm making a commitment to tune out the unnecessary, tune into the essentials and most importantly - trust my own insights and intuition.

I've been soaking up podcasts, books, and the works for a long long time. Those voices can be helpful but they also haven't given me the space and time to sit back and listen to myself. 

What do I really believe in? What are my philosophies and principles? I thought I had a grip on this but what I'm realizing now is that the more I listen to myself the more gold that comes to the surface. 

So that's the commitment; to spend a lot more time listening to myself this year. At least 30 minutes of silence per day whether that's spent meditating, doing breathwork, or simply enjoying the quiet with a cup of coffee in my hand.
