My great aunt died last week. She was 102. 

There's 1 thing that made her live so long:

> It’s that she lived on the same street as her brothers and sisters since she came to Canada decades ago. 

Community is everything and we all say it but this kind of story proves it.

It’s the reason I stopped being a digital nomad.

For 4 years it was awesome getting to rub in my jet-setting life here on Linkedin 

But it was also lonely.

Constantly making new friends, then leaving those friends to make new friends and inevitably losing touch because proximity breeds friendship.

So I moved back to Toronto, where I have the majority of my community

And I’m so glad I did.

I went through some major life changes recently and my community was there for me.

I know that’s vague, but I’m not ready to share yet (but like as big as it gets)

And thankfully I got back up super quickly because they supported me. 

I still hate the winters, and I’m the most pale I’ve been in 4 years which pisses me off

But I feel loved and held. 

And maybe that’ll keep me going until I’m 102 too.

Beaches are cool, but best friends are better.

(But best friends ON a beach is the ultimate)

Last week my great aunt died at 102 and I shared how it was her community that kept her alive for so long.

This weekend I attended a High Vibe Women event in a room filled with women entrepreneurs (my people!)

- was asked to be on a podcast 
- and speak at an event

That's what happens when we're in person with each other.

We expand and evolve.

We’re not the same person going in as we are coming out.

For 5 years, I’ve wanted to host my own in-person retreat

I’ve been to retreats that I still talk about to this day

They are special experiences.

And I’ve had this dream of bringing together my audience

To meet face-to-face to experience this magic together

Walking away from corporate to travel & build my business felt liberating...but I had constant anxiety that the ‘job police’ would knock on my door to tell me to a ‘real job.’

That what I was doing was “bad” and they were here to straighten me out.

I’m not even trying to be funny.

I truly felt like I was on the run.

Hoping they wouldn’t find me and tell me I was delusional to think I could make it on my own.

I can proudly say: 

The job police don’t exist. 

But the fear...that’s real.

I’ve been obsessed with understanding why so many coaches fail (only 18% make it 2 years) and I’ve finally figured it out:

It's because they think like a coach, not a CEO.  

It’s the difference between 

“ I want to help people” 
vs 
“ I want to run my own coaching business”

At first, my dream was to become a coach to help people

I even gave my 2 weeks notice 2 years into working at Salesforce because I was so passionate about COACHING

Thank god I didn’t follow through with leaving

Because staying for 6 more years gave me my MBA

It wasn’t just to be a coach

It was to run a successful coaching business.

Because we don't get to help a lot of people if we don't have any money to keep the business running.

I used to take rejection really personally.

If they didn't buy my coaching, I thought I was the problem

Even though I knew better, it still stung. 

Then a friend reminded me: 

👉 Objections are not a rejection of YOU.
👉They are a reflection of your client’s fear of change.

They were so RIGHT. 

Here's what's actually going on in people's minds when deciding to buy coaching:

“It's not the right time, can we start in a few months?” 
↳ What if I invest and don’t follow through?

“I need to think about it” 
↳ What if I fail and regret this decision?

“It’s too expensive” 
↳ What if I spend the money and don’t get results?

They aren’t doubting your value.

They’re doubting their ability to succeed.

When we understand that it's not personal, we can focus on helping them see what’s possible.

Once I studied buyer psychology, getting yeses got way easier.

I built it into my content, my live experiences and my sales process

So by the time I get on the phone with them, they are 80% sold

I've been in sales for 20 years, eventho I was the shyest kid growing up.
 
But sales has changed my life.
 
I wasn't naturally good at it but when I learned the psychology of why people buy, it finally made sense and stopped feeling sleazy.
 
One of my clients was deciding between me and Tony Robbins.
 
He chose me.
 
Another talked to 5 other coaches, reputable ones too, and still chose me.
 
I'm def not better than Tony Robbins.
 
But I made each of them feel more seen, more understood, and more certain that I actually got their specific problem.
 
That's buyer psychology in action.
 
People don't buy the best product.
 
They buy from the person they trust most.
 
Which means sales was never about being loud, pushy, or convincing.
 
It's about being real enough that someone feels safe saying yes.
 
And that....anyone can learn.

Ladies, we need to IMMEDIATELY stop saying this:
 
"I don't want to come across as salesy."
 
I hear this every week. And it's always a woman.
 
(I'm a feminist and that's exactly WHY I'm saying this.)
 
I get it too...there's no mainstream example of a woman crushing it in sales without being cutthroat or overly sexualized.
 
So you're not wrong for having this feeling.
 
But it's slowly killing your business.
 
Sales isn't aggressive or manipulative. It's actually deeply caring:
 
You have something that solves a real problem. 
Someone has that problem. 
You help them see you can fix it.
 
The fear of being salesy is really a fear of being seen.
 
Someone is suffering from the exact problem you solve.
 
Your fear is the reason they haven't found you.

It's time to stopping letting that happen.

Growing up in an immigrant family as a shy kid
I was always listening and taking it all in, even if I didn’t understand the language being spoken.

But I could always understand the actions & behaviours.

And there's one etched permanently in my brain:

> Seeing all the women in my family labour over their husbands and families.

I would watch my aunts and grandmother spend hours and hours cooking a feast

While the men sat back relaxing and shooting the sh!t.

When dinner was ready...the men sat at the table and waited to be served by their wives. 

Even though I was young and didn’t know any different, in my bones I knew I hated this.

And I made a decision as a young girl to dream bigger than that for myself. 

That has been my driving force for every decision I have made in my life

Every good grade, every interview, every promotions, every business decision, every leap of faith

I did it because they didn’t get to.

They never expressed being unhappy with the arrangements with their husbands

But I knew they wanted more but couldn’t ask for it.

They wanted more but were afraid. 

Every time I’m afraid to take the scary step

I remind myself of the women in my family

And I take the step for them.

For all the steps they never got to take 

But for building beautiful loving homes that kept us safe.

And fuelled our ability to go forward bravely in a world not built for us

But one in which we’re making it safer to be in for all women.

In a room of 200 female founders, I was the odd woman out because I'm on Linkedin, not Instagram. 

I've never felt more like an outsider...and that I was sitting on a goldmine at the same time.

Every one was anxiously recording b-roll all day, which they would then need to edit for horus to make into a reel later

As I sat there, snapped a couple solo pics and wrote down some ideas for content that I'll whip up in a few minutes on Sunday night. 

Never have I been more happy to be a Linkedin weirdo. 

If you've ever doubted if Linkedin is the right platform for you as a coach

This is to remind you of the opportunity that you're sitting on:

Instagram: 3B  users...40% of them create content daily
Linkedin: 1.2B users...1% of them create content daily

I don't know about you, but I'd much rather compete with 1% of 1B vs 40% of 3B

The math just seems to be mathing for Linkedin.
