5 career lessons I wish I knew earlier (backed by experience):


1️⃣ Visibility beats intelligence, every time.

I’ve seen it, lived it, tested it.

You can be brilliant at what you do, but if no one knows it, you’ll be underpaid and overlooked.
Stop hiding behind your work.

Start building your personal brand: 
talk about your process, your wins, your insights.
In 2026, the most visible person wins, not the smartest one.

2️⃣ Top-of-funnel content brings likes, not leads.

I fell into this trap myself.

Views were up, dopamine was high, but sales were flat.

Your business needs viral posts but it also needs nurturing content that builds trust and shifts perspective.
Create content not just for the reach but for retention too. 

3️⃣ Rejection is a skill.

One of my DM managers once blocked me after being mocked for her English by a “coach.” 
That day I realised, most teams are trained to send messages, not handle rejection.
Teach your team (and yourself) to hear 100 NOs and keep going.

Every NO is a filter, not a failure.

4️⃣ Theory doesn’t build businesses. Execution does.

 My ex-coach taught me this the hard way- hours of theory, zero accountability.
That’s why I built programs that prioritise action, not consumption.
If you’re not implementing what you learn every week, you’re not learning, you’re hoarding information.

5️⃣ Build something that’ll survive without the algorithm.

Australia’s social media ban for under 16s might sound irrelevant, but it’s a preview of the future.
Algorithms will tighten. Platforms will change.
So ask yourself, if Instagram/LinkedIn disappeared tomorrow, would your business survive?

Start building owned assets now: email list, WhatsApp community, loyal base.

You don’t need perfect content, perfect English, or perfect timing.

You just need to keep showing up, keep executing, and keep being seen.

Because the internet doesn’t reward the best, it rewards the most consistent.

I have a shitty social life.


There, I said it.
My business makes up about 95% of my actual life.

The rest is me talking to my 2 friends or fighting with my family…

I Ignore other peoples calls 70% of the time. I don’t talk much at social gatherings … or make new connections!!

I keep telling myself I’ll change it,
but honestly, I don’t want to.

Because I like how this life feels.
Yet deep down, I also know… it’s not healthy.

It’s weird, right?

To love your work this much and still know it’s kind of consuming you.

I’ve stopped forcing the idea of work-life balance.

Maybe some of us are just built differently,
the ones whose version of “balance” is going all-in on what we love,
and recharging quietly, not socially.

Still, it makes me wonder…
Is this passion or obsession?
And does it even matter if you’re happy living this way?

Yesterday, a friend from my college called me.


We were in the same batch, she started her job and I started my business same year.
She’s still there, promoted last year, but with just a 10% salary hike.

And every time she calls, she says the same thing:
"I don’t understand how to switch careers or land better roles."

At this point, I’ve stopped sugarcoating it.
Here’s what I keep telling her (and what most professionals still don’t get):

1️⃣ Visibility > Intelligence (in today’s market)
According to a study by LinkedIn & MIT Sloan, professionals with higher online visibility earn 15–25% more than peers with equal or greater skill levels.
Why? 
Because visibility builds trust before a resume ever lands on the table.

In simple terms, the world rewards what it can see.

You could be brilliant, but if no one knows about it, you’re invisible.
And invisible people don’t get opportunities.
So start building your personal brand because it's not just for online service providers - it's literally from anybody who wants to earn money.

-> Post about what you’re learning, not just what you’ve mastered.
-> Break down one insight from your daily work every week.
-> Comment thoughtfully on leaders in your industry, get seen where decisions are made.


2️⃣ Network like your salary depends on it. Because it does.
Your next job, client, or opportunity will probably come through a conversation, not a job portal.

How to start (without sounding desperate):
- Make a list of 10 people you admire in your field.
- Send a short message: 
“Hey [name], been following your work on X. Would love to learn from your journey, open to a quick chat this week?”
- Join niche WhatsApp or Slack groups where your peers hang out. Share value there.

Do that consistently for 90 days and your visibility and network will open doors your resume never could.


Moral:
The person who is seen gets paid more than the person who is smart but silent.
You don’t need to be the loudest.
You just need to be visible to the right people.

27 lessons I learned at 27!


1. Motivation comes and goes. Systems stay.
2. Some days progress is just showing up. And that still counts.
3. I waited way too long for the “perfect time.” It never showed up.
4. Thinking didn’t give me clarity. Action did.
5. The scariest decisions pushed me the furthest.
6. Overthinking cost me more money than failure ever did.
7. Rest feels good. Rest without progress feels heavy.
8. Being busy and being productive are very different things.
9. Your circle shapes your confidence before your talent does.
10. Discipline isn’t dramatic. It’s quiet and daily.
11. Consistency on bad days beats intensity on good ones.
12. I didn’t need more ideas. I needed to execute the ones I had.
13. Comfort slowed me down more than fear ever did.
14. Confidence didn’t come first. Action did.
15. Some chapters ended without closure. I survived anyway.
16. Patience matters. But speed changes everything.
17. Most overwhelm is just too many open tabs in the brain.
18. Healing and hustling both need honesty with yourself.
19. The market rewards value, not just vibes.
20. Avoiding hard things only made them feel heavier.
21. Outgrowing people feels lonely, but it’s necessary.
22. Starting messy taught me more than waiting ever did.
23. My income grew with my decision-making speed.
24. Fear didn’t disappear. I just learned to move with it.
25. Slow progress kept me in the game when motivation didn’t.
26. My past didn’t decide my future. My daily actions did.
27. The younger me just wanted me to not quit.


For me personally, 27 was a messy year that taught me the hardest lesson: To love and trust myself first, nothing matters more.

And showed me that no matter what happens,
I can handle it.

27, you were confusing, emotional, surprising…
but the year I grew the most.
(I hope I made you proud.)

28, I’m ready.
Whatever you bring, I’ll handle it.

Everyone’s solution to feeling overwhelmed:

“Be more disciplined.” That advice is useless when you’re not even able to start.

When you have mental resistance, low energy, and still need to show up daily.

There’s only ONE thing that actually works when you’re overwhelmed.

Just remove friction.

Here’s how I do it:

> Step 1: Friction dump everything

I open my notes app and write down every task that feels heavy to start.

Takes 10 minutes max.

Content, DMs, follow-ups, admin, personal stuff, everything goes on the list.

> Step 2: Pick the lightest thing and just start

Not the most important.

Not the most urgent.

The lightest.

Because the act of completing something removes resistance.

Once I finish the first task, it becomes easier to start the next one.

And suddenly, the rest of the list feels doable instead of draining.

The real problem:

Most people stop at step 1.

They keep planning.

New routines.

Rebuilding systems.

Color-coding discipline.

But if you’re just organizing and not actually starting,

you’re still stuck.

You don’t need more willpower.

You need less friction.

Overwhelm doesn’t go away when you become disciplined.

It goes away when you make starting easy!

After 25K followers and 90+ people taught,
Here's my complete LinkedIn guide which has a 100% success rate:

First things first...
Make a decision. LinkedIn requires time and effort so if you are not willing to give any one of them, don’t read this post.

How many times should you post?
In the beginning, go all in – post 6–7 times a week. 

Use this phase to experiment and observe:
What’s getting engagement?
What are people enjoying?
What are you enjoying?
Once patterns emerge, bring it down to 3–4 solid posts a week.

Important content mix to follow:
✅ 60% value-packed posts → builds credibility
✅ 30% personal stories → builds trust
✅ 10% fun/viral stuff → expands reach

And bhai, only post when you actually have something meaningful to say. 
Don’t force it.

Instead of posting daily, comment daily.
Create 4 lists of profiles for daily commenting:

a. Your ICPs → Ideal Client Personas
b. Industry Peers → leverage competitors' views
c. Bigger creators → leverage their views
d. Same level creators → others in your follower range

The quality of your comments matters the most.

Be early, be thoughtful, be genuine.
Aim for 40–50 meaningful comments a day – not "great post bro" spam. 
Quality over quantity.

Before you do the above, optimize your profile

More profile views won't mean anything if people are not clear on 
what to do on your profile.

Make an offer every single day
When I say "make an offer", I mean "send DMs" to warm prospects. 

Oh, the free account here is limiting.
Get LinkedIn Premium → It's worth it.

Send DMs to your favourite commenters.
Send DMs to ICPs within your commenters.
Send DMs to ICPs from the "reactions" list too.
Send DMs to your Profile Viewers (primarily ICPs).

Things to remember:
a. Never pitch in your first DM (no pitchslapping)
b. Personalized voice / video notes work super well
c. Personalized guide / loom videos work even better
d. Use Linkbound to find leads inside your interactions

The goal of each DM? 
To book calls. Nothing more.

Bonus tips :
- Stop tagging big creators to get reach – looks needy
- Impressions mean nothing if nobody checks your profile
- Unfollow 5–10 irrelevant folks daily
- Comment only where your audience is hanging out
- Your comment = mini-post. Treat it that way
- Follow people in the regions you want to sell in
- Lift others up, without expecting anything back

I got blocked last week by my team member!


We’d just hired- our new IG DM manager.

Why? 

Because on her first day of live outreach (after training), 
she got rejected and straight-up mocked by a female “mindset coach” for her English.

Her English wasn’t perfect. So what. The message was cruel. 

She sent me the screenshot and before I could even reply, she’d blocked me.

That block hurt. 

Not because of the click but because it told me three things at once: 
my teammate felt unsafe, 
the internet can be ugly, 
and our onboarding didn’t prepare her for emotional hits.

And that’s when I realised something most founders ignore:
We train our teams to send messages, not to handle rejection.

So here’s the unpack and the actionable playbook I used (and you can copy) to stop a small incident becoming a culture collapse: 

1) Roleplay Rejection:

Weekly 30-min live roleplays where you toss the nastiest replies at them. Make the team rehearse calm, confident responses.

2) Micro-language training:

10–15 minute daily drills to sharpen English for DMs (phrases, polite corrections, pivot lines).

3) Rebuttal library: swipe file of 8 one-liners to diffuse or exit:

“Thanks for the honesty, not a fit. All the best.”
“Appreciate your perspective. If needs change, DM me.” “Noted. Moving on.”

4) Script for being mocked- calm, not defensive:

“I’d appreciate respectful language. We won’t continue this thread.” 
(If needed, mute/block and document.)


Because if you’re in online marketing, 
you’ll hear a hundred NOs before one YES.
You can’t let every no break your team.

And to people who mock others for their language or effort
you’re exposing your insecurity, not their weakness.

So yes, if you slap me once, I’ll slap you twice.
But with results!!

A counselling psychologist asked me over a sales call


“Shivani, why do I need a personal brand?
 I already have a firm page, I can just market through that.”

I smiled and said,
 “You can. But people don’t connect with logos. They connect with humans.”

He raised an eyebrow.
 “What do you mean?”

So, I asked him a simple question:
“Do you know who founded Swiggy?”

 He paused. “Umm… no.”

“Now, do you know who Deepinder Goyal is?”

He laughed, “Of course! The Zomato guy!”
Exactly.

Both are billion-dollar companies.
But only one built trust through a face, not a logo.

Then I told him:
 “When you build a personal brand, you’re not just growing visibility.
 You’re opening doors you didn’t even know existed.”

Here’s what I mean 👇

and positions you as the face of credibility in your field.

You don’t need to “market more.”
You need to be seen more - authentically, strategically, and consistently.

I used to wonder how agency owners land such famous clients.


Big names. Blue ticks. Media coverage.
And I never got a straight answer.

Until this year, when I got to work with Sameera Reddy.

Yes, the Sameera Reddy.

And turns out, it’s not some secret PR connection or hidden network.

It’s two very practical things that most people know, but few actually do consistently.

1. Create high-quality content, even when no one’s watching.

 I can’t stress this enough.

Good content compounds. It works silently in rooms you’re not in.
When you create with genuine insight, depth, and consistency, your work travels further than you think.

That’s exactly what happened.
Sameera’s fitness coach stumbled upon my content.
 
He resonated with it → reached out → became a client → started a new venture with Sameera → and that’s how we landed her.
Zero outreach.
Zero fancy pitch decks.
Just content that did the networking for me.

But here’s the other half of the equation:

2. Network like your business depends on it. Because it does.

DM people you admire. Send them a thoughtful message, not a pitch.
Ask for a quick Zoom coffee chat. Join your local BNI. Attend meetups.

Don’t sit behind your laptop waiting to be discovered, go shake some hands (virtual or real).

And please, when you do, leave your ego at home.

Networking isn’t about “what can I get from them?”

It’s about “what can I learn, give, or share that makes this connection valuable for both of us?”

The best opportunities never come from chasing fame, they come from being seen doing great work and being known by the right people.

So if you’re wondering how others are landing big names, stop wondering.
Start showing up.
Start connecting.

Because the next person watching your content might just be the bridge to your dream client.

For the longest time, I thought asking for help made me look weak.

When I started my business, I wanted to do everything myself 

content, sales, onboarding, client delivery, tech, even accounting.

Because deep down, I equated independence with strength.

“If I ask for help, maybe I’m not capable enough.”

Other days I vanish and let life happen without documenting it…

Both feel right in their own time.

Back to the rhythm again! ❤️😍

There was a time I couldn’t sit still without grabbing my phone.

If I had two free minutes, I’d scroll.

Comments, Emails, DMs, Reels, insights, anything that made me feel like I was keeping up.

And yet, the more I consumed, the emptier my ideas felt.

Nothing was original anymore…

Everything sounded like a remix of what I’d already seen online.

One evening, I caught myself switching between five tabs, half a podcast, and a chat window 

and still telling myself I was working.

But I wasn’t. I was just distracted in different directions.

So I tried something simple.

Ten minutes a day. No screen. No music. No “learning.”

Just me, my thoughts, and complete silence.

At first, it was uncomfortable to sit still for 10 mins

My mind kept searching for something to check, something to fix.

But then, slowly ideas started coming back.

I realized I hadn’t lost creativity.
