As the Founder and CEO of GoChip Pet Technology, I’m on a mission to revolutionize companion animal management and safety in urban environments. My passion lies in creating innovative solutions that enhance the well-being of companion animals their guardians.

With over a decade of experience in marketing, entrepreneurship, and international relations, I bring a unique perspective and robust network to the emerging animal tech sector. My journey is fueled by a vision to launch and scale pet tech products that make a tangible difference in the lives of animals their guardians and the communities in which they live.

I hold an Oxford Blockchain Certification and have previously held leadership roles at Velas AG, and DACSEE, and was a co-founder of CanCham PRD. These experiences equipped me to build and launch GoChip, a cutting-edge platform that provides digital identities and records for animals. Our patent-pending technology not only creates the world’s first unified digital ID for animals but also allows for direct interaction with an animal’s microchip via a smartphone—an industry first.

At GoChip, we collaborate with all stakeholders in an animals life, from  veterinarians, shelters, and local governments to e-commerce platforms, insurance providers and NGOs promote animal welfare and responsible guardianship. Our goal is to reimagine the relationship between people, animals, and cities, creating a safer and more connected world for all.

-Engaged in relationship-building with Indigenous communities, Indigenous governments, provincial government departments, the veterinary community, and animal health/welfare regulatory bodies to ensure sustainable access to veterinary care in remote, underserved areas of Manitoba.

-Developed the organization’s Indigenous Engagement Strategy and 5-year strategic plan for the One Health Program which focuses on equitable access to veterinary care for underserved populations in remote communities and in Winnipeg.

-Planned 27 veterinary clinics since 20202 resulting in 1,315+ animals receiving veterinary care.
-Secured $250,000+ in grants from the provincial government, industry charities (PetSmart Charities of Canada, PetValu, PetCo Love), and private donors.

-Secured $50,000 to organize Canada’s first Reconciliation in Animal Welfare Symposium with colleagues from IFAW, BC SPCA, and Canadian Animal Task Force which was attended by 130+ participants from the animal welfare industry.

-Presented at the Humane Canada 2021 National Animal Welfare Conference as an invited speaker on integrating equity, diversity and reconciliation at different scales within the animal welfare sector and 3 presentations on the One Health Program for various audiences, including the provincial government and the animal health industry.

-Conducted qualitative social science research with the use of NVivo on One Health, Indigenous reconciliation, and dogs in Indigenous communities across Canada resulting in 1 peer-reviewed paper and 1 national conference presentation.

-Supported the veterinary medicine student rotation in 5 remote communities in the Northwest Territories.

-Co-authored 1 report for the Northwest Territories government.

Postdoctoral Research Associate

University of Guelph

Conducted 41 interviews with individuals in the conservation and tourism industry in Botswana and African wild dogs. Questions were closed-ended and open-ended and explored perceptions of and attitudes toward African wild dogs, human-wildlife conflict, and conservation.

Graduate Research Assistant

Conducted 80 interviews with game and subsistence farmers in remote areas of Botswana. Interview questions were closed-ended and open-ended to understand perceptions of and attitudes toward African wild dogs.

I strive to be a disrupter in my field and a leader in human-animal relationships and One Health. I consider myself a go-getter and 'big ideas' person who aims to create positive change for animals and humans in the world. I am also a risk-taker who is not afraid to implement creative and original programming. I sincerely enjoy networking and bringing different groups and stakeholders together; I believe that cross-disciplinary teams foster new ideas and solutions for wicked problems.

My expertise is in conservation social science, human dimensions of wildlife, human-wildlife conflict, wildlife/companion animal welfare and humane dog population management. I am also experienced in qualitative research methodologies, research design and analysis, grant writing, community engagement, and program development/management.

I have postdoctoral level training in Community Health Sciences (University of Calgary), and practical applications in One Health, animal welfare, human-dog relationships, humane dog population management in Northern communities, and Indigenous reconciliation. 

My doctoral research in Geography (University of Guelph) focused on human-African wild dog conflict, compassionate conservation, and wildlife welfare in Botswana, Africa. During my doctoral studies, I was the recipient of a SSHRC Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship, which is awarded to top PhD students who demonstrate leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies. In total, I was awarded ~$400,000 in awards and scholarships.

I have published first-author articles in high ranking journals such as Human Dimensions of Wildlife and Health Promotion International, and have presented at national and international conferences as an invited speaker/panelist.

I believe that equitable access to veterinary care is vital to the human-animal bond and healthy communities. For ~3 years, I worked in humane dog population management in northern Manitoba, operating from a One Health framework and Indigenous reconciliation approach. 

In the last 3 years, I was a Project Manager for the Ontario Veterinary College working on an innovative project focused on creating digital communities of care called The Community Pet Care Project. I've worked with The Fur-Bearers on the first national survey of Canadians' attitudes and knowledge of wolves, with Humane Canada on curriculum development for educational modules on gender-based violence and pets, and with Veterinarians Without Borders NA on a rabies research project to inform rabies educational curricula for Nunavut.
