one year ago, i was terrified.

24 years old. first real marketing job in the UK.

i remember sitting on the plane thinking:
"what if i'm not good enough?"
"what if i can't keep up?"
"what if this was a mistake?"

but i packed my dreams anyway.
showed up anyway.
hoped anyway.

and today? i'm celebrating one whole year Live & Breathe 🥹

here's what nobody tells you about your first year:
yes, you learn the skills:
✨ how to manage clients who change their minds 47 times
✨ how to lead campaigns that reach millions
✨ how to stay calm when everything's on fire
✨ how to work with people who make you better

but honestly? the skills aren't what change you.
it's the culture. the people. the little moments that don't fit on a CV but live in your heart forever. 🫶🏻

💞 like my manager texting me at 5:30pm: "sakshi, log off. the work will be there tomorrow. you won't be if you burn out."

💞 like teammates who had my back before i even knew i needed saving.

💞 like being told "take a mental health day" without guilt, without questions, just care.

💞 like Mr. Barista making me coffee every morning (for FREE - still my biggest flex 😭).

💞 like our CEO saying "i see your effort, not just your results" when i needed to hear it most.

these things?

they don't just make you want to show up.
they make you want to give your absolute best.
they make you feel safe enough to try, fail, and grow.
they teach you what loyalty really means.

this year didn't just teach me marketing.
it taught me what a good workplace can do:

how it can reshape your confidence.
how it can redefine your work ethic.
how it can heal the parts of you that thought "work" meant survival, not growth. 

🌟it taught me to step up for my team the way they stepped up for me.
🌟 to put in the hours on tough nights because i wanted to, not because i had to.
🌟 to give nothing less than my best - not out of fear, but out of gratitude.

so here's to one year.

one year of learning, loving, stumbling, growing.
one year of becoming a version of myself i didn't know i could be.
one year of proof that the right people and the right place can change everything.

last week i got the chance to interview for one of my dream roles at Tesco.

and oh boy... that interview ended with me in tears 😭

my pitch deck didn't load. tech kicked me out mid-call. i got so nervous at one point that i had to literally stop and ask for a moment to recollect myself.

it was all chaos.

and honestly? 

i've been replaying it in my head all week thinking 
"i could have done this better... 
i should have said that differently..."

but then a friend told me something that stopped me in my tracks:

"sakshi, you're just 25. you're already doing SO much. there will be so many more opportunities for you." 🥹

and that hit different.
because he's right.

at the end of the day, every experience is either a win or a lesson.
this one? massive lesson.

here's what i'm taking from it:

👏🏻 it's okay to get nervous - even when you've prepared like crazy
👏🏻 things WILL happen that aren't in your control - tech fails, nerves kick in, slides don't load
👏🏻 nothing is as big a deal as we make it in our heads - i promise you, they've seen worse

so if you're also going through the anxiety, imposter syndrome, or just feeling like you're not "ready enough":

this is your reminder that you don't have to be perfect.
YOU JUST HAVE TO SHOW UP

be honest when you're nervous. 
ask for a moment if you need it. 
laugh at the tech fails. 
do your best with what you've got.

because the right opportunity will see your effort, your passion, and your willingness to try - even when it's messy.

and the ones that don't? 
they weren't meant for you anyway.

i found this out when my LITERAL dream role at Apple wasn't on any portal... just hiding in the LinkedIn search bar like some kind of treasure hunt.

and that's when i realized - we're all ignoring the most powerful tool we have.

so here are 3 search hacks that changed everything for me:

1️⃣ keywords + "hiring" = actual magic

try this: Marketing AND "join our team"
or: Social media AND hiring
i promise you'll find roles that never touched a job board.

2️⃣ time is everything

after you search → click Posts → filter by Past 24h or Past Week
here's why this matters: hiring managers post about roles BEFORE hr uploads them to portals. you're seeing opportunities while they're still fresh, not after 300 people already applied.

3️⃣ find the humans, not just the posts

search: Company name AND job title
you'll find someone on the team who shared or commented on that role.

pro move: check the reposts. those people are either helping recruit or they're LinkedIn angels who genuinely love connecting candidates. Either way? Gold. 😇

💡 bonus hack: save these searches and set alerts. LinkedIn literally sends you new roles without you lifting a finger.

the truth? the best opportunities don't wait for you on a portal.

they're in a search bar. waiting for you to be curious enough to look.
