Account Manager @ Kurogo | Creating Industry Leaders through Personal Branding

I eat, sleep and breathe FMCG brands and pop culture.

And if I’m not doom-scrolling into the latest trend rabbit holes, I’m talking about it on LinkedIn.

The rest of the week, I’m an Account Manager specialising in driving strategic outcomes for clients through data-led insights and delivering high-impact marketing strategies.

To craft banging brand strategy, I:
👉🏻 Research (i.e. stalk) my clients and their industries until I know them better than they know themselves
👉🏻 Keep my finger on the pulse of what’s happening in their field
👉🏻 Genuinely root for them and their business 

That’s the mix I use for my clients, and so far I’ve achieved some pretty insane results across 20+ CEOs and Founders including:

- An inquiry from Dragon’s Den
- £700k angel investment directly attributed to LinkedIn 
- Features in podcasts, panels, publications

Ultimately, people buy from people.

Not dry, faceless brands.

Today marks 3 years at Kurogo.

(Or 1,097 days of building CEO and Founders’ brands and leading strategy to be precise.☝🏻)

In numbers, it looks like this:

→ 37 client campaigns led
→ 2,634 posts published
→ 19 million impressions (!!)
→ 257,155 reactions

Yep, counted them all myself.

But it’s not just been all about the numbers (as much as I do love my spreadsheets).

In that time, I’ve also:

Attended 6 team socials 
Worked every role on the delivery team
Supported 7 clients at special in-person events
Secured a client as a lead sponsor of the Olivier Awards
Directed campaign video shoots from our London Studio
Built a client personal brand that led to a £750k in investment
Remotely worked from Bristol, London, Milan, Barcelona, Zadar and Cape Town

But by far, the best bits have been the clients I’ve worked with (4 of which have returned to work with me which means more than any impression count ever could!!) and my incredible teammates.

It’s been a huge 3 years of many highlights, wins and learnings at Kurogo - Personal Branding Agency. 

Very excited for whatever the next 1,097 days bring. 🪩

“Personal branding is cringe.”
Only until it works.

For one of my clients, it ended up bringing in £750,000 of their £1.5m investment raise.

No paid ads or big PR splash.

Just showing up consistently with a clear story about what they were building and why it mattered.

Behind the scenes it was pretty simple:

→ I led the positioning and brand campaign direction
→ Irene wrote the posts, translating the business’ wins into content
→ Ilaria handled engagement, keeping conversations going with the right people

A few months in, investors started appearing in the comments and DMs.

Some just curious.
Some asking questions.
And some eventually wiring money.

It wasn’t overnight, and it wasn’t flashy. But it worked.

Personal branding gets a bad rep because people picture buzzwords and vain hustle bros. 

In reality, it’s just making your work visible to the people who might care.

Sometimes that leads to a like.
Sometimes it leads to £750k.

Dr Karen Skinner is Chief Operating Officer at LifeArc, a not-for-profit life science organisation leading the way for change in rare diseases and supporting promising initiatives in global health. She is accountable for translating strategic goals into actionable plans, leading cross-functional teams, and driving operational excellence to maximise impact. In addition to her role at LifeArc, Karen is a Board Trustee of the Epilepsy Society and member of PIPMG Executive team. 

She is passionate about biomedical science and technology, and applying that knowledge to create innovative products that make a real difference for patients. She believes that collaboration is the key to accelerate the progress of scientific discoveries to create medical breakthroughs that transform the lives of those living with disease.

Karen has more than 30 years’ experience within life sciences, from early exploratory to launch in a variety of therapeutic areas, having held numerous global leadership roles in big pharma, biotech and not-for-profit organisations, building expertise in pre-clinical and clinical development, R&D operations, portfolio management, product development and alliance management.

Prior to LifeArc, Karen held the role of VP Immuno-Oncology at the high-growth biotech BTG, where she was accountable for building their immunotherapy research portfolio through in-house research and collaborative partnerships. She began her R&D career within the pharmaceutical industry at Merck where she gained a strong grounding in drug discovery and has a DPhil in Pharmacology from the University of Oxford.
