Finance Manager/Controller

Axis Communications

Axis Communications is a Swedish IT company that offers solutions based on sight, sound and analytics to improve security and optimize business performance. In 2019 Axis had a turnover of 11,8 BSEK and 3 600 employees in over 50 countries.

The role is best described as a finance business partner to strategic business development initiatives with the objectives to increase total addressable market and business efficiency. The main initiatives I would like to highlight are:
      
- Exploring the possibility for Axis to offer subscription-based services and new methods for customers to finance Axis products. 
- Development of a prioritized commercial segment. 
- Global rollout of a learning management platform and enablement of online payments.
- Contributing to the development of business control’s transition from backward-looking reporting to a more proactive business partnering to the organisation.

My responsibilities include business case modelling, assessing opportunities and risks, BI development, OPEX financial planning and defining objectives and KPI’s.

Business Controller & Analyst 

Axis Go to market strategy requires complex IT platforms to support the process. I took on a new role with the objective to improve the planning, prioritization and implementation of IT capabilities required to support Axis business model and strategy.

The main priority became the migration from Axis internally developed CRM/quote management system to a third-party CRM platform (Salesforce), and the rollout to approx. 800 users in 50+ countries. 

The main challenges were lack of alignment between key decision makers, resistance to change old behavior and hesitation to invest time from the sales organization. By grit, leveraging early adopter’s success stories and finding common ground among key stakeholders the migration and implementation was successful.

Sales System Requirement Manager

Lantmännen (agriculture sector / division lantbruk)

Lantmännen is an agriculture developer/supplier and food producer in Scandinavia and the Baltics with an annual turnover 2015 of 35,6 BSEK. 

The Agriculture division consists of grain trading, seed research/production, livestock feed research/production, and the sale of agriculture supplies required for farming. 

I was hired as manager for the business controlling of the sales and market functions. The newly appointed CEO decided that the division required a drastic reduction of overhead costs, and a major reorganization was launched. As part of the strategy the organization changed from a functional organization to business areas with separate P&L’s.

I managed a team of 7 business controllers/price administrators responsible for selected BA’s. The main priority was to secure that the budget & forecast process, monthly closing and managerial reporting supported the new business area organization.    

From a leadership dimension the main challenge was leading coworkers through a high degree of uncertainty and supporting them to adapt to new roles. My leadership in this context is characterized by being present, listening and communicating frequently. When required I more actively support in creating structure and to prioritize work.

Manager Business Controll, Agriculture division 

Sales management desired better control of discounts and improved quality when quoting to win strategic business opportunities. I took on a new role with the objective to develop the bidding process. 

The main challenges were price pressure from competition, balancing short term sales targets vs long term strategy, limited information and cultural differences. 

By cooperating with regional sales executives, product managers, competitive intelligence, legal and IT I designed a data and market driven framework for managing discounts. During my time as Bid manager sales grew by approx. 50% and margins remained stable.

Bid Manager

Axis Channel partner program, at the time consisting of 45 000 partners in 179 countries, is the cornerstone of Axis go to market strategy. A new role in the finance organization, reporting to the CFO, was created with the objective to fulfill the financial obligations of the program in a secure, scalable and automated process. 

Together with representatives from the sales leadership team and system experts from IT I travelled to Axis subsidiaries to support the implementation of the program in the capacity as owner of the financial process. In Lund I managed a team of administrators responsible for the daily operation of the process in the EMEA market.

IKEA Group

A key learning from the operation of the first few stores in Japan was customers desired home delivery to a larger extent than planned. I took on a new role as business developer, with the objective of assessing financial implications of different options of fulfilling the home delivery. I presented my findings to the board of directors, and a strategic decision was taken based on my work.

I relocated to Japan in order to support IKEA’s entry in the Japanese market. I was part of the Distribution Service management team that had responsibility for securing the fulfillment process to the stores. 

My main priority was to secure the business navigation process to provide insights about cost drivers in the Japanese market. This included setting up accounting rules and routines for monthly closing, budgeting & forecasting, logistical cost mark-ups on IKEA products and KPI reporting. I also managed a controller and a shared resource from the accounting department. 

Using insights and learnings from the initial distribution operation I was able to create a business case that approved funding for land acquisition & construction of a distribution center in Nagoya that was necessary for the expansion plans in Japan.

This role consisted of forecasting, planning and steering of the goods flow to the distribution centres and stores in northern Europe.

I worked with cost controlling, management information packages, KPI’s, gross profit analysis, pricing, budgeting and forecasting of logistic costs for northern Europe.

In the trainee program we learned about IKEAs supply chain, from product development, suppliers, transport and distribution to meeting the customer at the store.
