Technical skills get you hired. 

Soft skills tell how far you'll go.

I see this play out at work all the time.
Same role. Same tools. 
Very different results.

Here’s a simple cheatsheet you can actually use at work.

1️⃣ Communication
↳ Practice active listening by paraphrasing what others say before responding in meetings.
↳ Use the "ELEVATE" framework: Explain simply, Listen actively, Validate feelings, Ask questions, Tailor message, Emphasize benefits.

2️⃣ Emotional Intelligence
↳ Pause for 5 seconds before reacting to feedback to assess your emotions.
↳ Journal daily about one interaction where you recognized and managed someone else's emotions.

3️⃣ Adaptability
↳ When facing change, list 3 ways it benefits you and one small step to start.
↳ Experiment with a new tool or process weekly, then reflect on what worked.

4️⃣ Teamwork
↳ Volunteer for cross-functional projects and offer help without being asked.
↳ Use "we" language in updates and credit others first in group successes.

5️⃣ Time Management
↳ Block your calendar with focused 90-minute deep work sessions daily.
↳ End each day by listing tomorrow's top 3 priorities and estimated times.

6️⃣ Problem-Solving
↳ Break problems into "What, Why, How" using mind maps before acting.
↳ Brainstorm 5 wild solutions first, then pick the most feasible one.

7️⃣ Leadership
↳ Delegate one task weekly to a junior colleague with clear outcomes and check-ins.
↳ Give specific, positive feedback daily to motivate your team.

8️⃣ Empathy
↳ Ask "How are you feeling about this?" in 1:1s and listen without interrupting.
↳ Mirror body language subtly in conversations to build rapport.

9️⃣ Resilience
↳ After setbacks, reframe with "What did I learn?" and one immediate recovery action.
↳ Build a "wins journal" to review weekly during tough periods.

🔟 Conflict Resolution
↳ Use "I feel... because... I need..." statements to express issues calmly.
↳ Schedule neutral third-party mediation for unresolved team disputes.

None of this sounds impressive on paper.

But this is what builds trust fast and pulls people into bigger roles.
So yes, skills get you hired.

But soft skills decide who gets trusted with more.

Senior Customer Supply Chain Manager - Consumer Products Division (CPD)

I managed the Customer Supply chain and Business planning teams for the divisions largest customer (five direct reports across three functional areas). 

S&OP lead for NYX PMU brand UK process. Driving process and reporting improvements. 

Responsible for driving best in class customer service level, availability (OTIF / OSA / Warehouse availability) and sustainable business growth.

Senior Customer Supply Chain Manager

Senior Supply Planner - Consumer Products Division (CPD) UK&I

Management for the CPD Supply Planning team (3 direct reports) and operational responsibility for Hair care (Elvive & Ultimate Blends) with previous experience on Cosmetics (Maybelline). 

UK LBO (Local Business Owner) for the S&OP process and Key User for SAP APO. 

Key achievements:
- Led the team through Brexit & COVID-19. Dealing with high levels of complexity and volatile supply
- Co-packing management: Managed the procurement of ca. 8Mu components to produce 2Mu of BOM sets for our Christmas Gifting campaign (>98% service level)
- Automated ordering tool for Non-EDI customers. Reducing the need for manual intervention, saving 3hrs p/week per customer.

Supply Planning Manager

Wyevale Garden Centres

Master Data Manager at Wyevale Garden Centres. 

Managed a team of four direct reports, who were responsible for the maintenance and creation of both Product and Supplier Master data and the related data within our ERP (Dynamics AX R3). The team also oversaw all EPOS Promotional and pricing activity (Retail-J) for the company. 

Additional responsibility for RELEX (Demand forecasting tool). Including Business communication, Root cause analysis and information flow management. 

My focus was on: Process improvement, standardisation, simplification, team development and cross functional training.

Master Data Manager

Product Information Manager for Luxury Product and Active Cosmetics Divisions for L'Oréal UK&I. 

Managing the Product Master data for two divisions (Luxury Products and Active Cosmetics); ensuring data availability and accuracy to internal customers. Responsible for implementing robust processes with a drive towards efficiency and simplicity, whilst ensuring data quality is not compromised. 

Key skills:
- SAP MM Key User (6 brand integrations, Functional testing, and SAP improvements)
- Advanced level excel user
- Winshuttle Transaction user and experienced script author
- Experience in both VBA and SQL
- Process documentation and training guides

Product Information Manager (Luxe & ACD)

Three four month rotations across different L'Oréal divisions, sites and supply chain functions.

Procter & Gamble

Formulation design and technical support across multiple sites for Global FEI Shave care team (Gillette). 

With key focuses in:

- Fundamental understanding of new technologies 

Responsible for the practical training of new staff in Rheology as part of a collaboration with a senior colleague. 

Recognised for organisational contributions after leading a team in the organisation of a Beauty Immersion day.

I am a driven, and passionate Supply chain leader with over 10 years of FMCG experience across Beverage, Beauty, and Personal care; having worked across most supply chain functions. I blend Supply Chain expertise with strong relationship and stakeholder management skills. I am particularly interested in personal development and have a proven track record of building and improving high performing teams (>5 years Team management experience). 

Scientific and methodical in my approach to problem solving, I am calm in a crisis and ensure that data is at the heart of the decisions we make. I relish a challenge and thrive in bringing teams together, identifying problems and challenging the status quo to deliver improved business performance.
