He picked up the phone and started calling local clubs asking if they needed a DJ.

At that point, he had barely played outside his bedroom.

Soon, he was DJing in a few local clubs.

Then he approached his university and asked if he could play lunchtime sets on campus. He brought his own deck and borrowed their speakers.

One day, while he was DJing there, a Red Bull student marketeer noticed him and asked if he'd like to DJ at a couple of their events.

Jordan said yes.

A few weeks later, they needed a DJ for their Cliff Diving competition in Sydney. Around 20,000 people attended that event.

He'd never worked from a DJ vehicle before.

He said yes anyway and figured it out on the day.

That moment opened the door to working with Red Bull.

From there, things kept evolving. He moved cities and stepped into a new role with Red Bull.

New environments, new responsibilities, new challenges.

And each time, he did the same thing.
He figured it out.

Watching that unfold has taught me something.

I tend to think things through carefully before taking a step.

Jordan does the opposite.

He takes the step and trusts himself to figure the rest out.

As a single parent running a business, life often felt like a constant balancing act. Work, responsibility, decisions, pressure.

Seeing him move through the world with that kind of courage has been one of the greatest rewards of being his mum.

It also reminded me of something simple.

Sometimes growth doesn't look like confidence.

Sometimes it looks like saying yes first - and working the rest out later.

What you offer today is more refined than it was back then.

Now every time you log in, there's that small hesitation.

What does this plugin do?
What happens if I click the wrong thing?
So the safest option becomes leaving it alone.

Over time the site turns into something fragile - a collection of fixes layered on top of each other.

A website should feel like a solid part of your business, not something you're nervous to touch.

After I finished cancer treatment, even simple things felt uncertain.

My energy was low and unpredictable.

The doctor kept encouraging me to go for walks.

Every time I tried, I made it about five minutes before turning back.

It wasn't about motivation.

It was fear.

Fear that if I went too far, I wouldn't have the strength to get home.
When you've come out the other side of something big, that kind of fear settles in quietly. You start calculating risk everywhere. How far is too far? What if I can't make it back?

So for months, I stayed close to home.

Out a little. Back a little.

Always measuring what I thought I could handle.

Then one day, something changed.

By then, Jordan had his driver's licence. I told him I wanted to go for a walk and see how far I could actually go. I asked if he could come and get me wherever I ended up.

He didn't hesitate.

"Of course, Mum. Call me anytime."

That was all I needed.

Not the lift itself.

The safety net.

Permission to try without the fear of being stuck.

So I set out in one direction, toward Collaroy Beach, knowing I wouldn't be walking home. 
I stopped along the way. Took photos. Let myself breathe.

I wasn't fast. I wasn't strong. But I kept going.

And somewhere along that walk, something clicked.

What I'd convinced myself was a physical limit turned out to be mostly a mental one.

Ninety minutes later, I reached Collaroy Beach. A distance that would have felt impossible not long before.

I called Jordan. He came to get me.

That walk wasn't about fitness or distance.

It was about reclaiming trust in myself.

And it reminded me of something I still see play out in business all the time.

Most people don't avoid growth because they're incapable.

They avoid it because they don't feel safe to try.

Sometimes what makes the difference isn't pushing harder.

It's knowing there's support if you need it.

You don't have to do everything alone.

And you're often capable of more than you think.

I don't fall for Nigerian prince emails promising me $10 million inheritance.

But this one got me.

I was expecting medical results.

The email came from the imaging clinic I had just visited.

Perfect timing. Perfect context.

That's called social engineering.

It doesn't trick your intelligence. It uses your reality.
I clicked.

Within minutes, my email account was compromised and firing messages out to hundreds of people.

The scammers even created hidden Outlook rules so the warning emails were automatically going into Deleted Items.

Normally, I would've gone straight into panic mode.

Instead, I opened ChatGPT.

Step by step it told me:
Reset passwords.
Check sign-in activity.
Remove malicious rules.
Force sign-out of devices.
Secure the account properly.
Scan your computer for malware.

It didn't just give me instructions.
It gave me calm.

I build websites for a living.
Apparently, I still need supervision.
Good thing I've got Al on speed dial.

The Work That Makes You Feel Safe Is Usually the Work That Keeps You Stuck

Most people think a website launch is the finish line.

It's not.

It's the handover.

Once a site goes live, three things start happening immediately:

    1. 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭
        Your wording, structure, and calls to action are now doing the explaining.
         If something's vague, people fill in the gaps themselves - usually incorrectly.

    2. 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐨𝐛𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐭
        Confusing menus.
        Unclear services.
        Missing next steps.
        These don't show up in the build. They show up once real people start using the site.
    
    3. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠
         If you hesitate before sharing the link, you'll compensate in conversations.
        You'll over-explain.
        You'll soften your offer.
        That affects outcomes more than most people realise.

This is why I don't treat website design as a "launch and walk away" job.

A good website supports the next phase of your business — not just the day it goes live.

If you only ever use one Al prompt in your business, make it this:

"Here is everything currently on my plate.
My priorities are time, clarity, and sustainability.
Help me decide what matters this week, what can wait, and what I should stop giving energy to."

This prompt works because it does three things:

✅ it removes emotion
✅ it forces prioritisation
✅ it stops false urgency

It doesn't give you answers.

It gives you 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞.

That one prompt forces clarity.

It helps me stop reacting to noise and refocus on what actually moves things forward.

I still make the decisions.

It just removes the mental clutter around them.
