I discovered Bitcoin in 2017 while working at eBay. Within a year, I'd gone all in on crypto. Haven't looked back.

In 2018, ICOs were the thing. I led marketing for a $3M raise. A few months later, ICOs were dead.

In 2021, NFTs were the thing. I was Head of Marketing for a $4M sellout. A year later, the floor collapsed.

I started to notice a pattern: crypto moves in waves, and most people drown chasing the last one.

I've been watching Bitcoin react to geopolitical events for 8 years and I’ve never seen it do nothing like this.

It all started on a bright Saturday morning in Florida. 

President Donald J Trump huddled with his crew. 

Hushed silence, he gives the go ahead.

Instantly, the surgical arm of Uncle Sam's miltary machine plunged into Caracas to extract one Nicholas Maduro. 

Trump managed to capture his nemesis without Maduro firing so much as a single shot in return.

Suddenly, Trump finds himself in control of:

303 billion barrels of oil (18% of global proven reserves)
More than Saudi Arabia
The largest petroleum reserves on Earth

Crazy.

Meanwhile every market in the world was closed except one.

Bitcoin.

And it did nothing. 

It didn't pump or dump. 
There was no volatilty spike
Completely unfazed.

Venezuela just collapsed and Bitcoin stayed at $90k like it was a sleepy Saturday.

Only on Sunday night, 36 hours after the capture, did Bitcoin start grinding up.

Bitcoin shrugging off the mayhem in Venezuela suggests that it’s moving along on its mission to become a global, neutral store of value.

What’s next?

I don’t want to jinx it but it seems like 80k is the local bottom for BTC.

Last week saw the precious metals rally ease up abit while BTC went up, signs that the long-awaited rotation might be underway.

Remember, Bitcoin failed to follow gold, silver and stocks on the way up because of October 10.

The market got rekt hard, major players lost large sums of money and had to sell coins to survive.

We also had a ton of long-term whales taking profit above $110k.

Altcoins are looking healthy again.
Whales are buying again.

Life’s good, and so is BTC.

I help Web3 brands attract attention, credibility, and demand.

The bad news: The proposed Clarity Act bans all yield on stablecoins.

The good news: I'm not American.

Jokes aside, we wanted regulatory clarity for years. 

Now that it's here, the fine print is brutal.

The Clarity Act would ban stablecoin-based lending or yield across the board, even fully collateralized, overcollateralized, and transparently managed programs.

This isn’t protecting consumers.

It’s neutering the most useful part of the crypto stack.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong backed out of the bill last week.

Smart move.

Coinbase knows how important stablecoin yield is, to both builders and users.

They saw the final draft and said “we’d rather have no bill than a bad bill.”

Meanwhile:

Ripple supports the bill (they don’t offer yield)
Circle supports it too, because under the GENIUS Act, they’re already banned from offering yield anyway.

This is what happens when legislation is driven by incumbents trying to protect market share, not enable innovation.

So why are lawmakers adamant to ban stablecoin yield?

Simple.

It'll kill smaller banks.

Remember when all the small banks collapsed in 2023?

Now imagine trillions of dollars leave their balance sheets to chase stablecoin yield on Coinbase.

Coinbase also has a problem with language that could ban tokenized equities. 

So they left. 

The White House isn't happy with our bald crypto king. 

Trump has ordered Armstrong to meet with the banks and find a compromise on the yield issue.

Bitcoin is down 4% since the weekend as these regulatory jitters flush through the markets. 

It's a momentary dip though.

The self-proclaimed 'best crypto president ever' knows how important stablecoins are to USD dominance. 

(When stablecoin demand increases, demand for US treasuries increases since stablecoin issuers are buying treasuries for their reserve.)

Let's hope Brian and the banks can come to an agreement.

That feeling you get when Bitcoin starts acting like a safe haven during geopolitical turbulence.

Crypto is growing up.
And the 2025 funding leaderboard proves it.

Look at the biggest raises this year and the pattern is obvious.

Yes, there’s still some degen energy:

> Binance got a large check from the Emiratis to build out the #1 altcoin casino.
> pump.fun broke records for number of memecoins launched per second.
> TON gained some traction on the back of Telegram's ubiquity in crypto.
> Monad's L1 got the community before a disappointing TGE

Every cycle needs its adrenaline.

But zoom out, and you'll see the maturity staring you in the face.

Two prediction markets in the top raises, Polymarket and Kalshi.

It's been a bumper year for prediction markets, the one true narrative from Web3 to capture a mainstream consumer base. 

Polymarket and Kalshi have been in a grudge match contest to rack up as many tier-1 partnerships. 

Today, prediction markets are embedded in Google Search and large media outlets. 

Stablecoins also cooked in 2025. 

> Bullish, co-founded by Brendan Blumer of EOS shame, pulled in $1b at IPO.
> Remember Ripple? They attracted Wall Street money to build stablecoins.
> Circle raised a cool billion through an IPO before going on an insane rally. 
> Stripe's L1 called Tempo, proves that fintechs also want in on the action.
> Figure was another 9-figure IPO and another stablecoin play.

Finally, Kraken & Gemini both raised what could be the last round before their IPOs.

The 4 'degen' projects raised ~$3.27B in total.

Prediction markets brought in $3bn. 

And the more mature side of Web3 brought in $3.4B in total. 

Crypto isn’t choosing one identity anymore.

It’s splitting into three parallel tracks:
Speculation & culture
Markets for information and truth
Financial infrastructure for the real economy
