I've been working with agencies for years but I don't have all the answers.

However, I know people who fill the gaps.

Last week I was in London with The Agency Adventure, in a room of agency growth advisers and specialists who each focus on a different part of agency growth: marketing, ops, business development, IT, legal, and finance/accounting, of course.

Most of the time, we're all working with agencies from behind our screens. So it was great to get everyone in person, even if for a day. We spent the day brainstorming ways to work together and support the industry that we love working with so much.

Because agency founders come to me with finance problems that often have roots in other areas. 

A pricing issue that's actually a positioning problem. A cash flow gap that started with a pipeline that dried up three months ago. A profit leak that traces back to how projects are scoped, sold, and delivered.

I can fix the numbers. I can show a founder exactly where their margins are leaking, how they benchmark against other agencies, and what their business needs to look like financially to hit the next stage of growth.

But sometimes the fix lives outside of finance.

That's why having a room full of advisers who all understand the agency world matters. When a client needs help with something outside my lane, I want to send them to someone I trust, someone who already gets agencies and won't need three months to understand the business model.

The best investment I made last year
had nothing to do with my business.

Last year, Rocksteady grew 75% year on year. More clients, more team members, more complexity. By every business measure, it was our strongest year yet.

It was also a year of unexpected surprises and difficult decisions. The kind of year that tests you in ways you don't see coming. Growth and tough calls tend to arrive together.

But somewhere along the way, I stopped looking after myself.

The gym was the first thing to go, and I kept telling myself I'd get back to it once things calmed down.

Things never calm down when you're running a business. I didn't notice how much it was affecting me until a lunch with a friend (and client) changed everything.

She recommended a personal trainer she'd been working with. 

I signed up straight away for six months.

That one decision changed more than I expected. Not because of the fitness (although that changed too), but because it forced me to create space that the business would never give me on its own.

Here's what I've learned since then.

Your business will take everything you give it. It will never tap you on the shoulder and say "go rest". That boundary has to come from you.

Nothing in the business suffered. If anything, I started showing up better, thinking more clearly, reacting less.

I don't think I'm the only founder who's been there. You put everything into the business, and the things that keep you going quietly disappear from the calendar.

If you're running a growing agency and you can feel yourself just getting through each week, don't wait for the business to give you permission to stop.

It won't.

Make the investment in yourself.

Today I'm spending the whole day talking about pricing.

Two workshops. Back to back (almost). I've been prepping all week, and I'm just doing one final rehearsal before the first session starts.

I'm nervous, obviously, but also really excited.

In January, I ran a pricing session and 100 agency founders signed up. We went through a rate card calculator together, everyone working out their true cost per hour, their required day rate, and the gap between what they currently charge and what they need to charge.

That gap was bigger than most people expected.

But the part that stuck with me was not the numbers. It was the conversation afterwards. Because pricing is deeply psychological. 

It's the discount we offer before anyone asks for one. It's the rate that hasn't been revisited in 2 years because the conversation feels uncomfortable.

That session clearly struck a nerve, because off the back of it I've been invited to deliver it again for two different agency memberships.


Pricing is not only about the maths. It's confidence, mindset, and every business owner I've worked with goes through it. These sessions are there to give people the space and the push to actually work through it.

When I started Rocksteady, the plan was straightforward. 

Build a finance & accounting consultancy for agencies. Deliver high-quality work and grow the team. Help founders get their numbers right.

Content creation and running workshops wasn't in that plan.

But somewhere along the way, I started writing about the patterns I was seeing across agencies I worked with. The same conversations are playing out almost identically across completely different agencies. Same stage, same stress, same moment of realisation.

And I realised I genuinely enjoy it.

The Rocksteady Agency Growth Series came from that. I kept having the same conversations with founders - about profit leaks, pricing, cash flow, about outgrowing their finance setup - and thought, why not have this conversation in a room with twenty of them at once?

The sessions aren't polished TED talks. They're practical, honest, and built from real agency situations. And the conversations that come out of them, founders realising they're not the only ones dealing with this stuff, that's the part I didn't expect to value so much.

Is it also good marketing? Of course it is. I'm not going to pretend otherwise.

But when someone messages you after a session to say it changed how they think about their business, it's not only marketing. It feels pretty awesome! 


I'm a finance person. I like spreadsheets and P&Ls and making the numbers make sense. Turns out I also like talking about it. Who knew. 🫢

My unwavering commitment to combating racism and promoting racial literacy is exemplified through my role as a coach on the Anti-Racist School Award program at Leeds Beckett University Centre for Race, Education, and Decoloniality.

In addition to my core roles, I have delivered presentations on critical subjects such as anti-racism, racial literacy, and anti-racist governance at prestigious events including the BETT Conference, Festival of Education, Haringey Anti-Racist Summit, Co-op Academies, Liverpool Anti-Racist Network, DiverseEd Hub, BAMEed Bristol & SW, LBU Knowledge Exchange, and NHS in Bristol. This platform diversity has allowed me to contribute to a broader discourse on these vital topics, reaching audiences across various sectors and ensuring a wide-reaching impact.

Driven by a resolute devotion to research, I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Education, with a focus on teachers and school leaders perceptions of anti-racism and racial literacy training in education. My written contributions, spanning articles and book sections, seek to elevate the discourse surrounding educational practices.

As a qualified ILM7 Executive Leadership Coach, I empower fellow educators and school leaders through enriching coaching sessions that foster their professional growth and development. Furthermore, my commitment extends to co-authoring a handbook entitled ‘An Introduction to Anti-Racism for School Governors and Academy Trustees’, which is a testament to my dedication in cultivating anti-racist environments within educational institutions.

My diverse career trajectory mirrors an unswerving commitment to transforming education, advocating for inclusive practices, and fostering positive change for educators, students, and their communities.
