Mechanical Design Engineer

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

Studied tail walking in dolphins and other fish using a biomimetic robotic mechanism. Duties included creating physical models that can simulate the flapping motion in conjunction with mathematical models calculated by a post-doctoral student.

Astrohaus CEO and Co-Founder. Inventor of Freewrite line of distraction-free writing tools. Over $1mm raised via Crowdfunding. Product Designer and Mechanical Engineer, @MIT alum. Will retire to be an artist in the mountains one day.

Elemind Technologies, Inc.

Elemind is a startup coming out of MIT with novel technology for closed-loop neuromodulation.  I lead the hardware and software engineering teams that developed Elemind's first product.

Led the advanced development of a next generation scooter platform.  Shortly after joining, macroeconomic forces led the business to decide to mothball the project.  Stepped in to lead engineering after the former leader moved on from Superpedestrian.

Joined a former colleague at Markforged.  Hired to lead the advanced development of a 3D printer that was unlike anything the company had developed before.  Macroeconomic forces (including COVID) led to the cancellation of that program.  Was asked by Greg Mark to lead a number of COVID relief projects, including the printing of 250,000 nasal swabs.

The Product Creation Leader directs the efforts of all Sonos functional engineering managers and engineers (i.e. wireless, acoustic, software, mechanical, etc...) from concept through production for the latest smart speaker products. 
 
Led very successful teams through positive and effective influence.  Was responsible for facilitating innovation and pushing the limits of design while tightly managing resources and schedules, managing product cost, making technical trade-off decisions, and communicating decisions, issues, risks, and status to the larger Sonos organization. As the project owner, was the voice of the development team outward to the entire company.

Interacted with people across the company to bring new products into high scale mass production.

ClearView Audio

Worked on the research and development of a new type of audio transducer.  Conventional audio transducers ("speakers") use voice coils, permanent magnets, and cone shaped membranes to produce sound.  Emo Labs' transducers are fundamentally different; they use piezoelectric actuators and curved membranes to convert electrical energy into sound waves.  Emo Labs was a small VC funded start up.  (approximately 15 people)  The company has since been re-branded ClearView Audio.

My fondest memories of working at EAW were the two times I watched a couple of live shows at the mix position.  We were testing a new speaker control system known as the MX8000 and I had developed the software to control it.  Being right in the middle of the show was AWESOME.  The two artists were the band LIVE and the group Hootie and the Blowfish.
