At TA Week, I was reminded why I keep showing up to these events year after year. It’s not just the content. It’s the people, the conversations in the hallways outside the ballrooms, the late-night idea exchanges by the campfire, and the real talk about where our industry is headed.

From moderating an incredible panel with Carrie Corbin Kerry Noone & Rebecca Smith SPHR Smith to getting schooled in sourcing by the wizard, Brian Fink, I left inspired and leveled up!

Straight up....fancy dinners and happy hours are fun, but the status quo. Being able to sit outdoors around a campfire, with no pretenses or need to force intros or conversations, was a game-changer.

Is the resume killer finally here?

Something big is about to shift in how talent gets seen.

And we "boomers" are getting old, and there is a new generation in town, and they are video-native.

They grew up communicating through video. TikTok. FaceTime. Instagram Reels. YouTube.

So the real question now is, if the next generation communicates through video, why are we still hiring through PDFs?

And in 2019, that man was Steven Lu.

He built Interseller.io, one of the first ML-powered sourcing and outreach tools. It was acquired a couple of years later by Greenhouse, and the rest is history. 

Steve and I connected, and he believed in what I was building with #thePOZcast  and became my first sponsor. Since I was just starting and didn't have a meaningful number of downloads (like hundreds), I bartered with him for sponsorship in exchange for use of the platform for NHP Talent Group.

Read to a Child

As a Read to a Child reading mentor, I am paired with an elementary school student who has been identified as needing some help with their English reading, vocabulary, and comprehension skills.  For many of the children that are part of the Read to a Child program, English is not their primary language.
  
Once a week, either in person or virtually, I read aloud to my mentee a variety of books, both fiction and nonfiction, which we select together based on both the interests of the student as well as subjects/genres that I want the student to experience such as poetry, short stories, biographies, etc.

Introduced STEM books to all mentees to encourage engagement with science and technology subjects.

Mentored 8 different children from 2 different schools during the past 15 years.

Recruited more than 10 co-workers to join Read to the Child's Read Aloud Mentoring Program (RAMP) as new reading mentors.

Reading Mentor

The TJX Companies, Inc.

Streamline communications between business users and technical support teams to drive global merchandising and allocation application efficiency as a Subject Matter Expert, identifying and mitigating complex issues through root-cause analysis, team collaboration, and 24/7 support.  Offer consultation during software and systems upgrades to align with business requirements.  Manage end-user acceptance test planning and post-implementation support.

•	Oversee diverse project management efforts for a large scale global database DB2 Connect
        component upgrade to maximize data storage systems for a Fortune 100 company worth $30B+,
        leading the integration of production support, network teams, infrastructure, desktop support,
        enterprise services, and end-user testing across multiple geographies and time zones with aggressive time and budget constraints.

•	Carry out disaster recovery efforts, including creating and maintaining systemic business continuity
        plans, test scenarios, and test exercise objectives, within an Excel/SharePoint database for 30+
        applications, and assist business users with all aspects of disaster recovery plan deployment.

•	Prior to upgrading to Windows 10, execute pre-deployment user acceptance testing for 80+
        corporate merchandising and allocation systems to ensure 100% systemic compatibility with new
        operating system. 

•	Maintain 60+ pages on team’s SharePoint site, overseeing application and process documentation,
        business contact updating, and interface changes to address all business priorities.

•	Train end-users on applications and systems processes as well as system improvements and
        enhancements.

Business Support Analyst

Directed daily operations for a cross functional team of 20 associates, coordinating administrative merchant support training, conducting performance evaluations, corrective action planning, and constructive feedback to drive efficiency and professional development.  Assisted merchant teams with cultivating key vendor relationships to mitigate and resolve diverse business challenges to ensure smooth operations for merchandise acquisition process.

•	Led individual and group end-user training for 200+ associates, handling staff training on new
        system business processes and improvements to include EDI, Store Ready Initiatives, and purchase
        order systemic upgrades. Developed and standardized training manuals and job aids while integrating classroom and desk side training efforts.

•	Consulted the merchandising team as a Subject Matter Expert on future purchase order data entry
        systems, data processing, and merchandising applications for a new global corporate Retail
        Management System project.

•	Purchase Order life cycle expert from data entry creation of the PO through merchandise distribution to stores.

Merchandise Operations Supervisor

Promoted to a larger store to stabilize employee morale and focus customer service by emphasizing corporate philosophy of SVCS (Service Value Convenience Selection) which led to consistently achieving monthly sales goals.  Focused on establishing better hiring and training standards which led to 100% staff retention over a three year period.

Royal Discount Bookstore Manager

I love animals, food, the environment, and education, probably in that order, but also doing what I can to connect people to help each other.  I have volunteered at a cat shelter, raised money for disadvantaged children through the Save the Children charity, am currently a Read to a Child mentor, and strongly believe that sustainability is achievable, but we must all work together to make it happen.

I am an operations specialist with extensive experience administering personalized consultation, training, and development solutions.  Well versed in driving efficiency through education and systemic processes in the corporate world, I would now like to apply my experience and knowledge in a CSR role at a charity/nonprofit, or in a corporate setting working with nonprofits.
