A designer asked where to learn the technical / production-ready side of design,  file formats, exports, color modes, print vs web, all the stuff tutorials rarely cover.

Here’s the honest answer most seniors won’t tell you:

You don’t really “learn” this from one course.
You learn it from context + repetition.
But there is a smarter way to approach it.

Here’s what actually works:

1. Pick ONE environment first
 Don’t try to learn everything at once.
 Ask:
 – Am I mostly designing for web?
 – Or print?
 – Or marketing assets?
Each has its own rules.

Master one → the others become easier.

2. Learn at the moment of use
 When you’re about to export something, then learn:
 – Which format
 – Which color mode
 – Which resolution
That knowledge sticks way better than binge-watching tutorials.

3. Read docs, not courses
 This sounds boring, but it’s gold.
 Adobe, Figma, printers, dev tools,  their docs answer 90% of real questions.
 This is where most seniors quietly learn.

4. Ask “why did this break?” instead of “what course should I buy?”
 Every wrong export, wrong color, or print issue teaches you more than a lesson ever will.
 Mistakes are part of the process,  not a sign you’re behind.

5. Production-ready design is mostly about respect for others
 Clear file names
 Clean layers
 Correct exports
 Files others don’t need to fix

That alone makes you look very professional.

If you’re early in your career and thinking about this already:
you’re doing better than you think.

You don’t need to master everything now.
You just need to stay curious and learn as the work demands it.

That’s how every senior designer I know actually got there.
