10 Human Reps vs 1 AI Agent

I fear I’ve unlocked a new skill.

Typing with these nails.

And let me tell you… this is not for the weak.

Every email is a battle.
Every typo is a tragedy.
Every keystroke sounds like I’m sending a telegram in 1893 because this keyboard is aggressively thocky.

You think you could handle this lifestyle?
You couldn’t.

One wrong move and the whole paragraph disappears.

Beauty comes with pain.
And in this case, significantly slower typing speed.

But listen,
we suffer for the aesthetic.

Someone asked me yesterday how I’m coping.

Which is such a polite way of asking,
“Are you functioning?”

Short answer: define functioning.

I work abroad.
My brain lives here.
My heart is back home refreshing the news every five minutes.

I’ve lived through enough wars that my nervous system doesn’t panic anymore.
It just goes quiet.

Which sounds strong.
It isn’t.

Being numb abroad comes with a special flavour of guilt.
You wake up safe.
You drink your coffee.
You open your laptop.
And somewhere in the background your homeland is carrying something heavy.

The guilt tries to make everything feel illegal.
How dare you work.
How dare you laugh.
How dare you exist in peace.

So I did what any emotionally responsible adult would do.

I stopped watching the news.

And I opened a fantasy book so violently I nearly sprained something.

Because if my brain is going to survive this, it’s choosing dragons.

I have read so much in the last few days that I now only resurface for hydration and carbohydrates.

Am I dissociating?
Yes.

Is it working?
Also yes.

So to everyone asking if I’m okay:

No.

But the female lead just acquired a sword and a dragon.

And at this point, that feels productive.

Do you know how funny fate can be?

Fourteen-year-old me used to sit on the couch watching Hallmark movies, fully convinced that one day I would move to a small town with a coffee shop and a book store.

A soft, snowy, main-character town.

Well.

Surprise, surprise.

That happened.

This week in Leamington Spa, I realised I live in the exact setting teenage me romanticised from a distance.

Small streets.
Independent coffee shops.
A book store around the corner like it’s a set design choice.

If you had told 14-year-old me that she’d end up in a small English town living that storyline, she would have screamed. Loudly. Possibly in black glitter.

And now I’m here.

I’m happy.
Elated.
Mildly bamboozled.

My bank account is already filing complaints because apparently “I deserve a little treat” is now a daily affirmation.

But listen.

It’s weirdly surreal to realise you prayed for something once in a half-joking, half-delusional way…

…and then you accidentally moved into it.

Anyway.
If you need me, I’ll be in a coffee shop pretending this isn’t the plot twist of my teenage imagination.
