I've told this story before...

...Recently my gal-pal and I did some shopping at Saks Fifth Avenue. 👛 👜

Just before we reached the exit, a stranger opened the door for us. 🚪

She then held out a cup for some spare change. 

I glanced down at her feet. Her big toe poked out from the hole in her sneakers. 👟

“Dahling, will you wait right here for about 30 minutes,” I said to her. “I have a gift for you.” 🗣

Back at my place, I grabbed a shopping bag and quickly filled it with shoes. 🥿👠🥾

You see, for months now I’ve been quietly asking myself this: 

➡️ Some people lack shoes while you have dozens of you’ve never worn… is that right?

When I gave the lady the bag of clothes, she broke down crying. 😭

Inside, I was crying to... After all, 

➡️ “I’ve been a victim of a selfish kind of love
It's time that I realize…” 🎶

And so, I’ve vowed to start with the woman in the mirror. 

Part of my confronting the woman in the mirror is knowing this: 

➡️ It’s not about ME, but instead it’s about WE. 

In short, to the best of my abilities, my heart longs to live from Mother Teresa’s wisdom: 

💡 “Your true character Is most accurately measured by how you treat those who can do 'Nothing' for you.”

Ever wondered why the idiom says “Break into Hollywood" instead of saying "Ask the gatekeepers for permission"...? 🤔

Sure, some industry veterans have complained my approach is a tad too pushy… 

…Buuuuuut — so, what? 🤷‍♀️

Admittedly, I have a New York State of Mind, dahling. 🏙 💪

So in an industry rife with nepotism and fear-based studios, who prefer stale super-hero IPs instead of pumping some new life into the industry, I’ll echo Kobe Bryant’s mamba mentality on this one:

➡️ “I refuse to change what I am. A lion has to eat. Run with me or run from me." 

In short, if you’re a screenwriter or director or producer or anyone touched with champagne dreams and Academy Award wishes… 

…I strongly suggest you embrace Robert De Niro’s timeless wisdom:

💡 “Time goes on. So whatever you’re going to do, do it. Do it now. Don’t wait.”
