Dodie Osteen Prayed Over my Uncle... He's Now Cancer-Free 🙏

Adversity introduces a man not only to himself but also to his family and friends. 

"Nephew, got some bad news..." my uncle Chubby mumbled. "Doctor says I got cancer." 😢

Time stood still. ⏰ 

My manager @Goddess (Matula) and I hopped on the next flight to Houston. ✈️

My cousin Rich Morris set up the emergency family dinner.

Uncle Chubby, usually a jokester, barely smiled over a speechless meal. Perhaps the threat of the Grim Reaper has a way of casting a grim spell. 💀

"Psst..." My auntie caught my eye. "Look..."

I turned around. 

I knew the face...

...After all, just the night before — I'd sent my family an article about how Dodie Osteen is still alive, despite being diagnosed with terminal liver cancer. 💪

In 1981 doctors handed Dodie a death sentence. 

They insisted she only had weeks to live. But 40+ years later, here sat this woman of deep faith. 

"Ms. Osteen," I said, "sorry to disturb you and April [Osteen]..."

I noted how the article in question ("Deep Faith = the Soul Going Beyond What the Eyes Can See") inspired readers on Medium... 

...I even told Dodie how my manager had shared the article with Pastor Osteen and Victoria. 

At 89 years young, a real-life shero stood slowly from her table. "Genius, where's this uncle of yours?" 🤔

Uncle Chubby, teary-eyed, walked over slowly... as if dragging a corpse.

Dodie hugged him. "How does it feel to be cancer-free?" she said, just above a whisper.

She then gathered our family in a circle for prayer. (Pictured.) 🙏

THREE days later on a Sunday, the Osteens invited my uncle to Lakewood Church. They rolled out the red carpet and sat him up front.

Pastor Joel Osteen, Dodie and Lakewood prayed over my uncle. 

Perhaps their sheer belief helped him exchange fear for faith? 🤔

On that blessed Sunday, Pastor Osteen's sermon recounted how when the blind man approached Jesus of Nazareth, the latter told him this: 

"Because of your FAITH, you will be healed." 

💡 (*NOTE: In the famed scripture, Jesus of Nazareth refrains from taking credit for the miraculous healing. Instead, he tells the blind man he'll be healed due to his own "FAITH.")

Uncle Chubby left Lakewood on cloud nine... ten and eleven too.

Just as a doctor had done for Dodie in Houston some 40 years before, a doctor told my uncle Chubby his body was now cancer-free. ❤️ 

In short, Dodie Osteen showed me and my family why — deep faith is the soul going beyond what the eyes can see. 🙏
