Scaled top line growth metric massively (on a few million starting denominator). But more importantly, co-built a brand the most affluent want to brag about. Worked with country's best talent across business, product, marketing & brand. Built products/marketing campaigns - most failed, but I got lucky on a few ones that changed orbits for the product. I would have stayed here for a decade if GrowthX hadn’t happened.

Was part of the team that scaled monthly order numbers from 150K to ~2 million. Larger part of my work involved defining the growth model from scratch, identifying core levers, and doubling down on top of the funnel.

Worked across problem statements which involved designing discounting logic, logic demand supply mismatch, referrals, solving for B2B sales automation & and building micro-market profitability across select geographies.

If I had to do this again, I will start growth from solving supply first and only then even think of customer acquisition - marketplace models humble you.

Took a one way flight ticket to Bengaluru. Landed consulting gigs because of few people who vouched for my proof at work at Sokrati, now, Onlinesales[dot]ai. This allowed me to work across a set of post PMF companies trying to figure out growth in super early stages. I enjoyed build the craft for these founders and tested the waters with consulting.

One of the reflection, when you want to get breadth of problems - do consulting. When you want to go deeper into one craft - work in a full time role.

• Led Sokrati's e-commerce platform team(Onlinesales.ai) to cater 40+ concurrent e-commerce businesses with monthly spends $3,00,000+
• Consulted CMO/CXOs for driving digital startegy on organic and paid channels.
• Devised Facebook ad optimization algorithm to automate bid and budget changes to achieve business goals.
• Scaled programmatic buying for the clientele from $0 to $10,000+/month

Platform Lead Analyst | First managerial experience

• Part of the business team to handle Display, Search and Social campaigns for a number of e-commerce clients with a total monthly spend of $50,000.
• Drove Google shopping for variety of global clients and scaled a travel accessories brand to 20X.
• Part of team to build case studies on Google Shopping & Feed based campaigns with Google and Facebook India team.

Business Analyst | Role that allowed me to transition

AdsKiya Media Labs

Built an ad platform to buy and sell ad-spots. The ad platform helped advertising agencies find the right kind of Billboard, Bus shelter, Movie cinema ad screen in the city and book it similar to digital media buying. Hit ramen profitability in 3 months. I took a conscious call of exiting the company to pursue the upside on digital growth which was peaking in 2017 across e-commerce & joined Sokrati.

I grew up in a remote town in Maharashtra, went to a Tier 2 college & took a lot of unconventional routes to land up a one way flight to Bangalore. All of it for the right opportunity.

Opportunity to build something that I truly find joy in & want to spend a considerable portion of my life. Sure - like most of my inner circle of friends, I was ambitious but none of it would happen if Bengaluru did not give me the “Opportunity”

I’m grateful to be able to live my dream, build products that impact so many lives through GrowthX & change the ballgame for the ecosystem we call startup India.

Having seen how ambition mixed with opportunity is magic, I want you to think of the biggest opportunity we have in-front of us as operators & founders. It’s not just Bengaluru anymore. It’s the India story.

How can we make the India story possible?

First, access to capital (equity/debt). Second, founders/operators building products that users need/want & are ready to pay for.  Third, building the right distribution for the Indian market. 

The center of it is human capital.

The people who will figure this out - founders, marketers, product managers, engineers, analysts & startup operators. They need to be able to build the muscle to raise capital, build products & figure distribution.

This is exactly what we are building at GrowthX. In 2023, we made bolder moves to up the game on building tech first human capital, one product launch at a time.

Here's everything we learnt, failed & understood in last 5 years 👇 

1/ Avoid the common mistake.
Most people start a community because they want to "market" their product. Building a community with the objective of selling DOES NOT WORK. Don't build a community because your software product needs users. 

2/ Start with an insight. And curate people.
What worked for us was starting the community without having a business goal in mind. We used to invite 6 people every week to this cosy place in Richmond Town, to discuss growth problems at work, and solve them together. Everyone who attended kept referring new people & this became a 300-person "vibe".

3/ Truly care.
Most people are transactional. By caring for other people without expectation of a tit for tat return is the holy grail. Its the savings account that will compound massively. And, it is worth the effort.

4/ Obsess over engagement metrics.
Most people start with "Join my WA group", "Why bro, Why?". Bring people together only if you have a monthly if not weekly engagement feature. For us, it is the slack community (70% weekly active users, AI channel is absolute mad right now) & over 1,000 in-person events a year, its the ultimate flywheel.

5/ Start with niche, playbook it & expand.
Niche communities are absolute gems. You feel like you found your people. But, they aren't scalable when it comes to long term growth. This means you need to personalise experience and create subcultures.

And please don't start them with a job title. Do it with interest groups - a few people with common goal is more important than their job title. For us that is people obsessed about AI implementation, who want to build their influence with events, help others through mentoring & even crack their next roles. I wish, we could have focused a lot more on this sooner than we did.

6/ Figure why people come in & stick around.
What we understood was 3 things - people want to be around smarter people, they want to build a micro learning habit every week & truly unlock their career growth. And people who join vs who just never join and contemplate have one key difference - our members are extremely biased towards taking action. We see this even once they become a member.

7/ Build a positive sum game.
Ambitious people also need recognition. Our fam wins channel (where we celebrate member wins) is an absolute showcase of having a positive sum game in the community - every new role, fundraiser, revenue milestone.

8/ I will try to write more on what we learnt. 
One core thing our members have told us consistently is that community membership is extremely valuable & we have underpriced it.
