The idea of content was pretty alien to me till the time I started with an Internship at a PR company in the first year of my college.

It was a 3 month long internship and I spent the majority of the time sleeping and called it learning.

While it was not very satisfactory monetary, it changed the way I looked at content, since I was spending most of my time sleeping and dreaming, the only thing I used to dream about was ideas, which were authentic and at least true to me.

Internship karke itna toh pata chal gaya tha ki career toh content me hi banana hai, chahe wo career Dinesh Karthik jaisi kyu na ho( inserts a cricketing joke).

It's pretty hard to remain consistent at what you do. It's boring especially when you see no growth in the first couple of years.

But my love for content is beyond any metrics and praise, it's a part of my life, it makes me feel content and that is what matters.

Well, I am not someone who will promise to make your brand a unicorn in 30 days, nor can I skyrocket your growth exponentially.

The most underrated personal branding skill: Self-Awareness.


Let me define this for you: Self awareness is knowing when you're posting from ego vs actually having something useful to say.


In the past, I've posted things because I seeked validation. 

Sometimes I posted things because I was annoyed. 

Other times it was just trending everywhere.

And all of those posts performed fine. Some even outperformed.

But they didn't build my brand. They fed my mood.


With time I’ve learned not every thought needs to be content and not every feeling needs an audience.

Self-awareness is knowing which version of you deserves the mic.

And it should be something that teaches something real. 

The version that's processed the mess and has something valuable on the other side.

Not anything momentarily that just wants to be seen.

Rihanna left high school at 16 to pursue music 
And landed a record deal with Def Jam.


No backup plan, just belief in what she could do.

I left my corporate job at 25 with no client list, no business plan, and definitely no marketing degree.

Just a hunch that LinkedIn was more than just a job hunting app.

I started posting when others treated LinkedIn as "the professional Facebook nobody uses."

I did no courses on personal branding. Social Toast came from a belief that I can do this.


So if you’re still waiting for the perfect strategy, the right certification, or one more course..

Stop!

I started messy and imperfect. 

Posted content that barely got engagement and made mistakes everyone could see.

But I started.


That's the difference between building something and planning to build something.

Stop waiting for permission or another course. The perfect opportunity doesn't exist.

You get ready by starting. That's it.

Are your LinkedIn connection requests getting ignored?


Maybe because you’re sounding very salesy in your message.

Your connection request has only one job - get accepted. 

Not sell. Not pitch. Just get in.


How I do it:
Keep it under 30 words, mention something specific from their profile and make it about them.


Once you're connected, you can engage with their content and build an actual relationship. 

Save the pitch for after you're connected.

3 lessons I learned this past month about personal branding:


1. Silence is a statement.

Not commenting on industry drama? Avoiding controversial topics? Staying quiet when everyone else is weighing in? 
People notice.

I learned this the hard way, I stayed silent on a big industry debate.

My silence was read as a stance I never intended.

What you don’t say often speaks louder than what you do.



2. Your network shapes your reputation.

How other creators engage with you publicly matters.

When big personalities comment on your posts, new people trust you faster. 

Your brand is also defined by people who vouches for you.



3. Every interaction counts.

One weak comment can undo weeks of strong posts and one ignored DM can cost a client. 

Personal branding is your every reply, every comment, every conversation.



You can’t build something on the basis of just perfect posts.

They’re built by consistent, thoughtful presence across every touchpoint.
 
Show up intentionally, everywhere and see the difference.

Your LinkedIn "About" section is probably boring.


Nobody cares about your job titles, years of experience, buzzwords like "passionate" and "results-driven.

Your About section has one job - make someone want to work with you, follow you, or remember you.

- Start with a problem you solve, not your title.
- Share how you got here. 
- Make it conversational. 
- End with a clear next step. 

Your About section is your first impression not your autobiography. 
So better make it count.

Ever wonder why LinkedIn shows impressions on your comments now?
I think this is not random, it is some kind of a signal.


See LinkedIn rewards engagement and not just posting.

So when your comment gets impressions, that means your profile is being shown to new people without you even posting.

I see people getting obsessed over posting daily. 

But now strategic commenting can build faster reach than most of our posts.


I once got 54k+ impressions from not some viral post but through one of my comments.

Plus it got me genuine leads.


And after months of tracking analytics, I think 47% of my growth comes just from comments.

Thought?

Your 15-word comment on the right post can bring you more leads than a 500-word article on the wrong topic.

So stop just scrolling and start contributing.

There's a version of me that doesn't post, plan, or perform.


And she's the one that keeps me real.

She's the one who took the Diwali break and take her Sunday’s off. 

That version of me doesn't monetize, doesn't build authority or add anything to the brand.

But she's the reason the brand exists at all.


I had two choices.

To turn every part of my life into content or to keep a few pieces, just mine.
And I get why people choose to share it all. Vulnerability connects, it builds trust and it makes people feel closer.

But I’ve learned that performing your entire existence comes with a quiet cost.


The version of me on LinkedIn is real but it's not all of me. 

It's the part that's useful, shareable, and relevant to building a business.
The rest? That's mine.

I've learned that protecting the private version of yourself is survival.

If everything you are becomes content then what's left when you log off?

Your brand is built on what you share but also it is protected by what you don't.

Every founder wants freedom.


I left my corporate job in 2019 chasing freedom. Needed no boss, no fixed working hours and definitely no permission for a day off.

Got all of that but at a cost.

The steady paycheck I once had became a month of zero revenue.

Weekends that used to mean rest turned into weekends filled with client deadlines.

The comfort of knowing what next month looks like turned into the uncertainty of whether a client would renew.


Freedom as a founder isn't what people think it is.

It is not laptops on beaches or "I work when I want" captions. 

Freedom is choosing my own hard and trading one set of problems for another set I'd rather deal with.

And honestly, I'd take the uncertainty of running Social Toast over the predictability of a 9-to-5 any day. 

But let's not pretend the trade doesn't cost something.

Some days I miss the simplicity of clocking out and forgetting work exists. 
Of getting paid regardless of how the month went.

And not being the person everyone looks to when something breaks.

But I don't miss needing approval to take a break or sitting in pointless meetings or building someone else's dream while mine stayed an idea.


Freedom comes with a price tag. 

The question isn't whether you'll pay for it, it's whether what you're buying is worth more than what you're giving up.

For me, it is. Most days.

My audience was bored before I was.


I’m sure you never want this to happen.

Your audience won't tell you if they're bored. They'll just stop engaging.


People ask, they're posting consistently, content looks good, then why is the engagement dying  slowly?

Some even blame the algorithm or say "LinkedIn isn't what it used to be."

But the thing about content fatigue is it's invisible until you look for patterns. 

Three posts in a row with lower engagement than usual is not bad luck. 

That's your audience telling you something without words.


If you respond by posting more of the same thing, just louder and better hooks with more emojis in different posting times. It will change NOTHING.

The problem isn't how you're saying it but that people are tired of hearing it.

How to fix this?

Look at what's getting ignored and immediately stop doing that. 

Look at what got random spikes in engagement and then do more of that.


Your content should shift as your business shifts. 

If you're dealing with different problems than you were three months ago, your content must reflect that.


P.S. Pay attention to the silence, it's louder than the engagement.

Every founder runs two companies.


The one in the world and the one inside their head.

As founders I struggle because these two companies don't talk to each other.

Your visionary side wants to pivot, experiment and try the new thing. 

On the other side, your operator side needs structure, systems, and consistency to keep the actual business running.


I've lived this tension at Social Toast.

One part of me wants to test new services, explore different niches, and shift how we work with clients. 

The other part knows we need predictable processes and reliable delivery to keep existing clients happy.

Both are right and both are necessary. But they're constantly at odds.

The mistake is picking one and ignoring the other.

- Go full visionary and nothing gets executed properly. 
- Go full operator and the business stops evolving.

Your business needs both versions of you. The dreaming one and the delivering one.

We gotta learn both.

That’s progress. Quiet, overdue and powerful.


Somewhere between pretending everything’s fine and calling it “just a bad day”, we have learned to hide our pain so well.

Especially the kind that comes once every month.

We’ve all done it.

Showed up to work, sat through meetings and hit deadlines. While our body was quietly asking us to rest.

I audit my own brand every six months.


Not because something's broken but because things drift without you noticing.

Here's my process:

- Values Check 
I look at my last 20 posts and ask: Am I still talking about what actually matters to me?

- Tone Check 
I read my content out loud. Does it sound like me in conversation, or am I trying to sound smart?

- Message Check 
I ask someone else who follows me: "What do I talk about?"

- Results Check 
Am I attracting clients I want to work with, or just collecting likes from people who'll never buy?



I've changed my approach twice based on these audits. 

Once I realized I was too focused on strategy, not enough on execution. 

Another time my tone got too polished - I'd lost the edge.


Our brand isn't static, it evolves as we do.

The question is whether it's evolving intentionally or just drifting.

Audit it. Adjust it. Keep it honest.

You don’t show up as the same person on every platform.


LinkedIn pulls out your strategic thinking, Instagram pulls out your energy and Twitter pulls out your quick takes.

Each platform amplifies a different version of you.

You cannot show up the same way everywhere. 


For instance, LinkedIn works on structured thought and professional insight. 

Posts that are shared for fun or entertainment aren't rewarded here.

Fighting that is exhausting and working with it is smarter.

And do not mistake this with inauthenticity. It has more to do with platform literacy.

Knowing which version of you, each platform naturally amplifies and leaning into that instead of forcing the same performance everywhere, is smart.


Your LinkedIn self can be thoughtful and strategic. Your Instagram self can be spontaneous and visual. 

Both are real and both are you. 

Just different frequencies.

Ditch your traditional plan and try this instead!

She was busy impressing everyone on the internet.

Well, what to say..

I have spent years worrying about being “seen” the right way, posting what I thought people wanted, chasing validation from the wrong audience.
 
Then I understood my energy is worth more than just likes. 

And most importantly, influence comes from impact, not approval.

So I Wrote her a letter and reminded her:

- Your story matters more than your pitch.
- Don’t hustle to prove yourself but hustle to build.
- The right people will notice your work; you don’t need to shout at everyone.

Looking back, I realize the hardest days have taught me the most.

And today I feel proud of myself!

Self-Boosting vs Personal Branding.


Self-boosting is easy - highlight wins, share milestones, get likes. 
But it is also temporary. Because people notice the brag, not the value.

Personal branding on the other hand is subtle, strategic, and cumulative. 
It is all about showing how you think, how you solve problems, and how you handle failure. 

How we can do this differently:

- Tie every post to a lesson, insight, or story. Not just the win.
- Share failures and what you learned for people to connect with our real journeys.
- Engage in ways that reinforce your positioning: your comments, replies, and even how you show up in DMs matter.

Takeaway: 

Influence, trust, and authority come from consistent, meaningful signals over time and not from celebrating yourself loudly.

Three years ago, I had a laptop and a dream.
Today, I'm holding SocialToast merch in my hands.


I opened our first batch of SocialToast merch today and it brought me back to 2023. 

That first day when I got a cake that said "SocialToast".

Back then it was just me, my laptop, and this idea that maybe I could build something real.

And now we're soon inaugurating our first office space here, in Varanasi.

An actual office with a team and with clients who trust us.


I'm not going to pretend it was smooth. 

There were months with zero revenue, nights when I doubted myself, clients who left us without any notice, long stretches where I questioned everything.

But we kept going and we did it without burning out or without pretending exhaustion was success.

The little things end up mattering the most. 

A cake, Social Toast logo, merch t-shirt. They all became proof that what you started alone has now become something real.


Grateful for every late night that mattered, every client who took a chance and every person who joined and believed in what we're building.

This next chapter is not just special, it's bigger for us. 

Here's to new beginnings and remembering the old ones that made them possible.

I once lost a client to another agency.


Because they offered "3 qualified leads every month or full refund."

I offered realistic expectations and a 3-month timeline to see traction.

Guess who they picked!


The thing is these guarantees are decided by the agencies, they get to decide what counts as a result.

Statements are blur in the beginning and then they get to call:

- A prospect’s reply to a post, as a lead. 
- Someone who downloaded your freebie and ghosted will be named as a lead. 
- People randomly checking for your prices, will be stated as a lead.


I never compete with these promises.

Social Toast doesn't guarantee lead numbers because I can't control when your audience is ready to buy. 

What I can control is whether they remember you when they are buying.

We focus on positioning, consistent content, and turning your profile into something that converts, when people look you up.

So I'd rather lose a client upfront than gaslight them later about what success looks like.
