Yesterday, on my birthday, I received hundreds of beautiful messages from family, friends, clients, and colleagues.

But one message completely stole my heart…

A handwritten card from my 11-year-old daughter, Myrah.

It said “Best Dad in the World,” and she put so much thought, creativity, and love into it.

She may be a girl of few words…

But when she expresses her love, it often leaves me in tears.

Something happened yesterday that I won’t forget for a long time.

Yesterday, on 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐞𝐧'𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲, I was reminded yet again that 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐬.

All three of my kids were home with a stomach flu.
I had a full day of meetings.
My wife had work commitments too.
The chaos was real.

So I picked up the phone and called my Dad.

And without hesitation…
As soon as he was up…
He showed up.
He played with the kids.
Held them.
Fed them.
Comforted them.

He didn’t ask questions.
He didn’t make it complicated.
He just did what great dads do,
He saved the day.

Today, this post is for him.

And for every dad, grandfather, uncle, mentor, stepdad, or father figure who quietly shows up — not just once, but over and over again.

International Men’s Day is a day to recognize, appreciate, and celebrate the men in our lives...

Fathers, brothers, friends, colleagues, partners, leaders and the countless contributions and sacrifices they make every single day.

Men give, provide, protect, build, support, and often do it quietly without expecting acknowledgment.

But today, I want to say this loud and clear:
𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬.
𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬.
𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐧, 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐝, 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝.

But we also need to talk about the part that often stays silent.

😟 𝐀𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 13 𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞, every single day.

𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐧𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬.
👨‍👦‍👦 These are fathers.
👨‍👦‍👦 Husbands.
👨‍👦‍👦 Sons.

𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐈 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐈’𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞.

🌑 I have battled suicidal thoughts multiple times.
🌑 I have walked through the darkness.
🌑 I know the loneliness.
🌑 I know the weight.

𝐈 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞.

Because if you keep telling yourself you’re not enough…

Today, I was sitting by the window with my toddler 👦 

We watched the wind gently pull the last few leaves off the trees outside.

And in that quiet moment, I had a realization.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐟𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠.
𝐈𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧.

Trusting that a new season will come.

And it made me reflect deeply on my own life.

Some people I once loved and admired...
In friendships, in work, even here on LinkedIn...
𝐍𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐦𝐲 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐬, 𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞, 𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞...
𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐞𝐭 𝐠𝐨 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦.
