Twenty years in marketing gave me creativity, challenges, and the satisfaction of helping clients grow. But after two decades, something was missing.

I no longer felt fulfilled.

I’ve been happily married for 22 years. 
I’m the father of six incredible kids. 
And I believe fatherhood is the most important role a man will ever have.

But I also know the reality for many fathers… 
Coming home exhausted, distracted, and feeling like they’re falling short. I’ve lived it myself. 

With the help of my own mentors, coaches, and a lot of hard personal work, I learned how to rebuild presence, gratitude, and connection at home. 

Now, I’ve made it my mission to help other men do the same through my Unstoppable Fathers Movement—a system designed to help fathers step into their role as protectors, providers, and leaders—so their kids feel cherished, their wives feel loved, and their families thrive.

Schaefer Systems International

As the senior plastics designer for SSI USA, my duties include designing and engineering all proprietary and custom plastic products for our four divisions - Packaging Systems, ASRS - Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems, Material Handling and Waste as well as three of SSI's international operations. 

These design projects include meeting with customers from need-finding and brainstorming thru final presentations; creating the production release CAD models for the moldmakers; designing of experiments to establish product requirements and to rate performance of my designs; presenting business cases, including costs and timing, for new products for the go - no go decisions; ongoing review of our products to improve quality and lower costs. Most of the product lines I have designed have Best-in-Class product performance based on weight, function and reliability 

In support of the product design function, I design and execute the internal performance testing protocols, direct any testing completed at outside labs, source and coordinate prototyping and research competitors' products in the target markets.

I have designed plastic products for the following manufacturing processes: injection molding, blow molding, thermoforming, rotational molding, structural foam molding, gas assisted molding and sheet metal fabrication.  Secondary processes include: plastic hand welding, hot plate welding, vibration welding and ultrasonic welding.

As ancillary functions, I create ad literature for the new products, writing the copy and coordinating/directing the photography, support sales efforts with detailed written presentations/studies that are provided to the customer and attend face-to-face presentations with customers on sales calls.

Senior Designer, Plastic Products

Self-employed / Freelance

•	Designed two injection molded aftermarket car consoles for Allied Plastics.  The new designs won back 130% of lost shelf space in retailers such as Target, Auto Zone and K-Mart.  A patent was awarded for the combination cup /CD/cassette tape holder feature of the design.
•	Sole proprietorship:  Conceived, designed and sold the first powder-coated steel CD holders in the marketplace.  Developed multiple concepts, prototyped and refined the final concepts for efficient manufacturing, sourced manufacturing and packaging vendors, created graphics and printed materials for packaging.   
•	Illustrated graphics for holiday and leaf bags. Collaborated with plastic film and bag companies to insure final graphic and color quality of product.  Final product was sold in retailers such as Target and K-Mart.
•	Fulfilled contract work for three Charlotte Industrial Design firms, Snug Seat, a local manufacturer of re-habilitation products and a custom injection molder.  Improved concepts, reduced product costs and increased the manufacturability of the products through design collaboration with other designers and suppliers.

Product/Graphic Design

Saturn Corporation

Design Engineer: Product Development Team Member, Vehicle Interior and Trim Group 
	Engineering team member for design of front/rear seats, instrument panel (IP), console, package shelf, garnish moldings  

Design Engineer: Vehicle Development Team Member, Vehicle Concept Development Group 
	Organized and managed multi-departmental Skunkworks groups. Presented results to both Saturn and General Motors upper management.
•	Production Console: Our team redesigned console from ground up to better match target market requirements.  Our design was adopted to replace existing production design and was in production cars.
•	Production Instrument Panel: Redesigned IP to include topside glove box.  Production intent glove box was below the beltline and was too small to hold the manual.  Our design was adopted and in production cars.
•	Next-generation Vehicle Line for Saturn:  Pulled together a multi-discipline group of Saturn employees and designed and implemented a hands-on, real life marketing study with competitive drives and feature focus groups.  Assembled a complete vehicle concept from exterior styling to novel in-car features like bike mounts, integral netting/hooks and easy-to-remove child seats.  Our resulting "Activities Vehicle" design was not adopted by Saturn, but the concept was validated in the marketplace years later as our competitors’ SUVs.
	Keynote speaker at IDSA Design Conference in Helen, GA.  Presented Saturn's practice of including GD&T and Variation Simulation Modeling in the design stages to insure manufacturability and tolerance allowance in the final designs.
