I knew two co-founders who used their life's savings.

They later raised $15M+.

3 years later, they were listed on the London Stock Exchange.

Then sold their clients to AJ Bell and exited.

They risked it all.

Today, I'm seeing loads of people build SaaS platforms and mobile apps at lightning speed.

But here's what's blindsiding them (they just don't know it yet!).

Because it's fast and affordable, there's ZERO commitment to the idea.

Doesn't work? Start again.
Clunky UX? Keep prompting AI.
Terrible UI? Copy and paste references.
No one wants it? Move on, build something else.

I'm seeing the same patterns.

The problem isn't the tools.

👉 The problem is your approach.

You're building 'things' instead of solutions that solve BIG problems.

Problems people will actually pay you for.

You're skipping validation in favour of prompting.

And you're wasting your time and money going round in circles.

Speed feels productive.

But without proper validation, you're just creating noise.

Focus on solving real problems first.

Then build.

I made A LOT of mistakes during my early career as a designer.

The worst mistake?

Using fake tan!

Jk, that's just my natural Mediterranean glow 😂

Joke aside. It's not understanding business.

And where design impacts the most.

I thought great design alone would win.

It doesn't.

- Beautiful UI means nothing if it doesn't drive revenue
- Stakeholders care about ROI, not your Dribbble shots
- Design without strategy is just decoration

The turning point?

When I started asking business questions:

– What's the cost of this problem?
– How does this impact conversion?
– Will this move the needle on retention?

That's when I had my own 'aha' moment.

Suddenly, everything clicked.

Now I approach every project differently:

– Speak the language of metrics
– Understand the business model first
– Align design decisions with revenue goals

You're not hired to make things pretty.

You're hired to solve business problems through design.

Building a SaaS today is piss easy 💀

The real challenge is what else no one tells you.

What you build, how you build it, who and why.

That's what separates the wheat from the chaff, my people.

And that's what separates 'Meh!' from 'Aha!'.

If I were launching a product today, I'd only focus on these three things 👇

1️⃣ Talking to users, understanding their pains
Not just surveys or analytics. Real conversations. Get on calls, watch them use your product, and understand what keeps them up at night.

2️⃣ Refining the product's UX
Understanding your users' pains is half the story. It's how you go about delivering the solution, and almost no one gets this right without user research and testing (true story).

3️⃣ Defining my GTM strategy
Who are you selling to? Where do they hang out? What's your message? Without clarity here, you're just shouting into the void.

💡 Deeply understanding your market and delivering an experience people actually want to pay for gets you to £1M+ ARR.

Most founders get stuck building what they think their users want.

I call it the founder-ego trap.

Here's what happens:

You've got this brilliant vision in your head.

But you're building for yourself, not your actual users.

The warning signs of founder bias are obvious:

👉 You ignore contradictory feedback
👉 You prioritise your favourite features
👉 You build based on gut feeling
👉 You assume you know best
👉 You skip user research

I hate to say it, but your assumptions are probably wrong.

I've designed and built over 200+ apps in 20 years, and 9/10 of them fail.

Not because of the execution of the idea.

But because you've skipped validation.

What successful founders do instead:

✅ Put ego aside
✅ Test assumptions early
✅ Talk to customers constantly
✅ Validate before building anything
✅ Embrace uncomfortable feedback

I've seen too many brilliant founders waste months building products their users don't actually need.

Get out of your own head and into your users' world.

Stop building what YOU want.
Start building what THEY need.
